I would hope this thing has some sort of level of water resistance. If I'm swimming it means I fell off a boat, but as far as going out and about........its inevitable something is going to get spilled on the water.......whether its just a glass of water at dinner or a drink in a bar when someone knocks one over or bumps into you. No sort of water resistance would be a deal breaker for me.

This has been covered a million times and Apple even said it was water resistant. They even show it is on the Apple site, so relaxed. The only question is what rating will it carry.

The big question is WHY IS THAT GUY SHOWERING WITH HIS SHIRT ON?

:eek::eek::eek::p:D

I shower at the gym all the time with my Pebble on. It has been useful to see texts come in or that someone is calling me. I am not going to actually answer then but it could prompt me to hurry a bit if I need to.

For me after a hard run or intense cardio workout I just leave my Garmin 620 on while I shower and then don't have to wash it separately.

I stopped wearing mine in the shower because I found it always ended up with accumulated white residue from soap. If I buy an Apple Watch I doubt I'll wear it in the shower regardless of how water resistant it turns out to be.

Only in an outdoor shower. Otherwise you need to be inside when wearing the :apple:Watch.

I often go to the beach and the shower uses salt water.

Will I be able to wear in this type of shower since it is outside?

inside= ok
inside+shower=ok
outside= not ok
outside+shower=ok
outside+shower+salt water=?????

I've never worn a watch in the shower whether it be water proof, water resistant or neither and I don't intend on starting now. I certainly won't be wearing my :apple: Watch in the shower.

I would think this discussion could get too down in the "weeds", but for something like a sport model, coupled with the daily activity tracking promises of the watch, asking for (or inherently expecting) shower-proof, swimming-proof, and/or salt/sweat proof isn't too much to ask for.

I have a Polar M400, and while it's not a smart watch for emails, notifications, messaging, etc, I use it to track daily activity, workout with it, and also wear it 24-7. It is great in the shower, pool, gym, etc.

I sure wouldn't recommend it. Apple probably wouldn't recommend it either; in fact, salt water is so corrosive it might void your warranty. Potentially, salt crystals could also encrust and accumulate inside the speaker/mic grilles, inside your watch itself and cause problems. If your Watch is ever serviced under warranty and salt is found inside it you're probably going to have to fork out for any work done... :p

You might be fine, but then again, why risk it with a piece of electronics that you paid at least $350 for; is money of no concern to you? :)

I thought he was crying that he finely received his watch

Wait so the entire article is based on someone might have heard Tim say something to the extent of wearing a watch in the shower in a crowded Apple Store in a conversation with one employee?

Slow news day?

Why why why would you wear a watch in the shower?!

I don't have an Apple Watch but weirdly in all the years I've worn a watch, I've never worn it in the shower!

Some people do, different strokes for different folks. I've done it, mostly because the watches I've owned were water proof so why bother taking them off.

You know it's fine if they added swimming in the exercise area ha

But they haven't done that so your comment doesn't make much sense.

What if someone texts you while you're in the shower? You're not exactly going to take your phone in there, are you?!

I have yet to see a text message of great enough importance that couldn't wait to be replied to until after stepping out of the shower. I don't know maybe you're text messages involve life or death decisions or impact millions of dollars and need to be responded to immediately, but I think that reasoning is a bit of a reach. (That's not to say I don't jump in the shower wearing my watch, but that's so I can rinse it off after working out to remove the salt from sweat, not for any need for functionality when in the shower)
