Thanks for my morning laugh.

You had me at "you're."

I'm going to brush up on my "business sense" right now...

Michael

Yeah, I'm the one that needs to laugh, dealing with small-minded people.

I'm not surprised at your response. Typical, when you refuse to address real issues you deflect with nonsense. As you have made not attempt at logic or reason you have to nitpick a typo. Unlike you I can admit to making mistakes. Unlike you, I understand how business works, and I have common sense. More importantly, unlike you I'm open to learning. You'll always have your head in the sand, refusing to face reality, remaining ignorant to things you could easily learn.

I repeat, the up-votes show I'm the one who makes sense, and you're the one who refuses to think. You need to brush up on more than just business sense. I'd suggest you might adjust you're whole approach to life, but it'd be wasted on you.

Good luck to you. You'll need it.

I don't like to buy anything at an Apple Store. I avoid them at all costs. They are too busy and it is hard to get someone to help you when people that have no intention are buying anything are monopolizing the staff's time.

Wow! That's terrible. My local Apple store has two greeters at the door. They ask what help is needed and get the customer to someone who can assist. I always let them know when I am just playing with demos so not to take up anyone's time.

Sounds like Cook needs to shop the stores and remedy this. Unacceptable.

I mean,,, this could work... Apple's just tryna get people back in to their own stores...

I blame Apple here actually..

They originally allowed the iPhone to be sold by mobile carriers since people would buy more iphones it they say them in store .... Now, Apple wants to reverse this action... ?

Seems like Apple just put the "foot in their mouth" ..

Besides, selling it at mobile carriers and other places is good ..although its also a good option for people NOT to buy an iPhone if they see something better.

Seems to me Apple just likes control.

btw. this is why i don't buy memory from Apple as its too expensive.. its cheaper via retailers...

Are Apple gonna start restricting all Apple products to their own stores ? :p I hope not.

Not doing the work for you. You make the assertions you haven't backed up. I want to know specifics. I want to know what incentives the sales person on the floor has to push a customer to someone other than Apple.

I want to know how any "push" from a sales person factors in rather than people wanting larger screens (which Apple is unwilling or unable to give them).

What do you mean doing the work for me. It's you that needs the information and can't be bothered to read around the subject. I know sales people in the business and they are told which phones to push by their sales managers who are only interested in the bottom line, end of story.

You really believe the "budget" iPhone (if there is one) will only cost 200 dollars unsubsidized? Not gonna happen.

People thought the ipad would cost about twice what it did before it came out. Apple could easily sell an iphone for $200. I paid just over $200 a couple of years back for my 4g ipod touch. The main difference between the phone and ipod was the cellular radio and GPS chip. These can be added very cheaply, not to mention the fact that the touch was not "pared down" in any other big way, although I think it has a smaller battery. So selling a phone for $200 is completely feasible. You know, I make facetime, skype, and textfree video and voice calls all the time on my touch. It works fine as a phone, just doesn't have a cellular radio. Honestly, the reason I have never owned an iphone is because I don't think a telephone is worth more than an ipad, no matter what it does for me. I'd be all over one of these, and can't wait to see the specs.

Just save this post. If there's a new "budget" iPhone presented for unsubsidized $200, I'll spend you a drink of your choice.

nah-uh, i'm a happy verizon customer and there is no way i'll go to the apple store to buy an unlocked iphone

why will i go for an unlocked phone instead of the carrier personalized edition, i mean, they offer more apps and goodies.

Wow, my experience is just the opposite. It can be sort of tough at times to track down someone to help you, but I find the staff extremely helpful. Doesn't hurt that the return policies are extremely generous too. Frankly, the Apple Store is probably one of my favorite places to shop.

Key words in your post are "track," "helpful" and "shop."

Sometimes you don't want to shop and you don't need any help. Those are the times where I really don't want to have to "track" anyone down to buy that which I already know I want to buy. I want to get right in, and get right out: no song and dance.

Michael

It's not tough at all! Start dropping those prices.

Let "You can get it for cheaper at an Apple store!" become the common mantra.

I have the answer for you Tim Cook.
Use some of the margin you lose when a carrier sells a phone rather than Apple to have a promotion where 1 in say 15 or 20 iPhones are Free if bought at the Apple store.
That and improve the time it takes to get a phone into the hands of the customers so you wait no more than 10 minutes.

Not everyone froths at the mouth over the iPhone like so many people here.

I mean no disrespect when I ask this but what would you expect in a forum called MacRumors?

----------

I don't know if anyone else stated this before, but I go to my carrier store because that's where I get my phone for the subsidized price. I don't go to the Apple store because:

1) It's in the major retailer location in my city (not any fault of Apple's. I say it's common sense) and I don't like to deal with traffic and the rather large distance. If a store were closer to me I would go more often but I have yet to set foot in an Apple Store.

2) I am not sure Apple can modify my account with my carrier. I get the 5 or whatever for $199 and not the $600 some odd dollars it costs unlocked.

Since you asked, the forum wasn't always like this. It used to be full of analytical thought coupled with equal praise and criticism of the successes and mistakes of Apple Computer, Inc. I suppose I should not expect that it will return that way. But I digress, I too often give it the benefit of the doubt.

I'm sorry to hear that. I have only started frequenting these forums within the past year so I have no knowledge of what it was like previously. Here's to hoping for open and thoughtful discussion! :)

As other people said, what is the benefit of buying it instore? There are so many mobile carriers on these streets, yet no Apple stores.

Throw in something like free credit, cheaper costs, free extra warranty, etc and we'll talk.

Who knows

Apple do a great job at creating ads making ppl want an iPhone, they just don't let ppl know you can actually buy one at the Apple store or get a contract there.
