Good for her and I am glad they finally came to see the light and that they were out of line. WAY OUT OF LINE

Would you guys take the job back? I'd feel too uncomfortable to work their again.

Of course, if I was a single mother of four, I probably wouldn't have a choice.

I would feel a little akward, but I think the managers do as well. And given that she is a mother of 4, I don't think the decision to go back was that hard.

glad to see she got her job back.

i wonder, was this due to the impact that the internet had? i mean, without it being passed around online, this story would've never been heard and likely just brushed aside

It has everything to do with the Internet... just like everything else in this world.

They're not doing the right thing, they're just reacting to Public Outcry and trying to CYA. I'm still not going to eat there.

Dear Mr. (iJohnHenry),

I would like to thank you for taking the time to write to us at our Head Office. *At Tim Hortons we strive to offer all of our customers friendly and efficient customer service, high quality products in a clean and pleasant atmosphere.

In regards to the recent situation with the termination of a staff member in London, Ontario...

Unfortunately the action of the manager of this location was not appropriate, nor grounds for dismissal. *With an apology from management Ms. Lilliman has been rehired by the franchisee.

We sincerely apologize to our customers for this unfortunate incident.

Best Regards,

Kaila,

I'm in Turkey - my son is constantly given stuff in shops by staff as are children generally. A trip to the supermarket wouldn't be the same without free stuff and no manager complains. I guess the pay back for the shops is loyalty, however my son loves shopping and its easier when he is happier.

Classy that they wrote you back.

I had a feeling it was a franchisee. "We're working with the store owner on this policy,” she said, calling Lilliman’s firing “an overreaction and not appropriate.” Article

I wish I could go get a large double double with milk right now......

If they could ship a Tim Hortons to Kandahar, why won't they ship one to LA?:D

I read that she asked to switch to another Tim Hortons location, so she won't be working with the same manager again.

And it really does sound like the bone-head decision of one dumb-ass, and doesn't really represent the sort of decision the company would normally make, as if it was some sort of official policy to just fire people like that. Bad managers are everywhere.

Anyway, glad it was sorted out.

Canadians love all sorts of holes.™
Especially the 5-hole ;)

One of my buddies lives in London, right now a group of my friends and I trying to convince him to go to the very same Tim Hortons and either
1) Buy a 40-pack of Timbits and leave it on/by the counter with a note saying free to kids under 12.
or
2) Go in asking to see the manager that "Started the international incident"

So far the popular vote is for option 1...

Free food to quiet a noisy child, and make the other patrons stay more pleasant seems cheap.

Firing somebody for finding a quick way to quiet a noisy child, stupid.

---

Edit: Think about their extremely strict food policy ... will this lead to employees picking up food they dropped on the floor, dusting it off, and serving it to customers?

Any place that is that strict about wasting food, isn't a place you want to eat. Especially that note about recycled food being in the store.

Gee even in the tiny general store in my village, with their crushingly small profit margin, freebies do get doled out to kids and dogs all the time...

Sometimes a "scrap" of deli meat is freshly cut by the store owner for some dog and taken out to the customer's truck in the parking lot while the customer is inside shopping... and we're talkin' roast beef for sandwiches, the kind that goes for nine bucks a pound at a deli.

So i dunno. A doughnut hole that retails for less than 20c US... that store manager must have just been having a bad day when he fired the woman. Not as bad as the day of having to rehire her, I guess.

Sometimes it takes awhile for a store manager to figure out the return on good will. With franchises, they should include instructions about this!

I've been deprived of TH for a while now, but IIRC, there's some pretty healthy food there. I loved their garden baguette sandwiches when I was up North. But I do like donuts now and again, too. That's not my point. It's that I don't approve of encouraging young children to eat rather than express their emotions. Having a timbit is fine; having a timbit because it's more appropriate to eat than to fuss is not appropriate. This is widely seen as being one of the things that accelerates children into eating disorders or at least unhealthy eating behaviors in later life.

yeah, normally I wouldn't think it was such a great idea, but still, sometimes, it might be better to just get the baby quiet, so long as you don't do it systematically I don't think it matters... besides hold on, aren't babies that age teething? Not sure when they do that tbh, what I know about babies would fit on a postage stamp lol, but if it was teething, apparently they can get really uncomfortable and then cranky, and chewing eases it, especially sugary stuff I've heard... So I dunno. but that woman probably would, having raised four of them :p
