i have a nikon D40 and Sanyo FH1 and of course the iPad. still the bag is comfortable to wear.

I have about 5 of these bags. They are very rugged, and the Xlarge can carry furniture :p

But they are meant to be worn a certain way (around the back) and are uncomfortable used other ways.

They are serious bicycle messenger bags.

Ordered the netbook messenger style from ebags yesterday. It shipped last night. I have a tracking number, but the arrival date isn't available yet.

I think this is going to be perfect for my needs -- I plan to use the Apple case, and I really wanted something that would hold the iPad in that case, with my headphones, the power cord, etc. I think the iPad will be just fine in the Apple case, with the padding of the netbook compartment in this bag. Plus I have a Canon Rebel that would be nice to throw in there (gently!) for travel. Otherwise, I'll take my point-and-shoot. I have a feeling I'll be using this as my spring purse instead of getting a new purse! (I ordered one that has a pinkish purple center section on the front -- purple is my favorite color!)

Tracey -- thanks for posting your awesome photos on Flickr. Those really helped me decide.

The netbook messenger was $58.50 on eBags -- 10 percent off plus free shipping, for a Mother's Day sale. I guess I need to tell DH that I bought my own Mother's Day present.

ETA: Oh, and I'm kind of glad that the strap will be on the shorter side. I'm 5 feet tall, and I love it when bags have shorter straps. I plan to wear it cross-body, on my right hip. Sometimes bags are uncomfortably long, even with the strap adjusted to be as short as possible.

I'm using mine more and more like a purse too.... i don't even have my iPad yet! LOL!! My daughters is like EMPTY though. HOw she can not have it fill of stuff i don't get!

You are welcome for the pictures, i never can find enough of them so i love to share when i can.

I could use a few more inches on the strap - i couldn't carry it cross body unless i lose 50 more pounds i don't think. It hits a good point on my shoulder though, so i'm sticking with that for now.

Based off this info I ordered the Freestyle Netbook bag. It looks way better than anything else in this size. The material is a little still now, but Im sure it will loosen up. I dont really like the shoulder pad and may replace it down the line. All in all a great back.

Tracey, how tall are you? Strap length is always a big concern for me when I buy gender-neutral bags. :D Especially since these appear to be made for bike messenger-types and other urban warriors, which I decidedly AM NOT. (Do they make messenger bags for suburban warriors??)

I'm excited to get a look at the pockets on this thing, and maybe I'll actually start using the key strap. That would shave about 15 minutes off my daily tasks -- no more groping through my purse while standing outside my car or my house!

I"m using the Netbook Messenger and it fits great!! (and, that bag is "cheap" - especially with an eBags coupone!!).

I have some pictures here if anyone wants to see them.

Enjoy the bag - loving mine!!!

I want the same black netbook bag... where is this coupon you speak of?

I'm 5'5", and not a bean pole. Which takes up some strap length. I would live to be able to carry it cross body but I think it would be under my elbow. I will have to try it later.

And yes they do make them for the suburban warrior - this is it! Lol!

I seriously love this bag still. And that is with 6 weeks of daily use without the toy to go in it! Lol!

google "ebags coupon" and you will find a variety of them to try. Depending on the product and shipping some may be a better deal than others. Join ebates and order thru them (plus use the coupon code) and you will save some extra when younger your rebate!

Is it possible that they only have this pink timbuk2 freestyle? I cant find a black one.

Just bought one yesterday from Micro Center

Went looking for one and boy did I find it. Black on black, looks well enough but I'm not going to be using it much til next week when Im done classes. Then I won't need to cart around my MacBook also.

I bought the black Freestyle Netbook Messenger from Dell on May 04th @ the great price of $35 + Tax and Free shipping! On top of that came in 1 day! I really like it a lot. It's listed as "Freestyle Laptop Messenger" and item number is A3263712. However the price is back to $59.99 :(

For the owners of DSLRs you can fit a tenba camera insert inside the Small sized Classic Messenger

Timbuk2 Envelope Sleeve

Bought the Timbuk2 Envelope Sleeve XS in black, gunmetal, limeaide at the San Francisco retail store this weekend. Just big enough for the iPad and the earbuds. Love having something that's relatively waterproof but small enough that I don't mind carrying it around all day. Also great for protecting the iPad in my messenger bag from getting knocked around by books, etc.

:p

All roads lead back to Timbuk2

I purchased my first Timbuk2 messenger back in the beginning of 2009. I built one using their "bag builder" and received it a few days later. When I received it i noticed the key tether was sewn incorrectly and they corrected the problem by sending me another custom bag! I ended up with two custom messengers (one with a very minor flaw), for the price of one. I learned pretty quickly how great their customer service was.

My experience with the bag itself was very positive and my only CONs being the strap length and the ever sliding strap pad.

Jump ahead to the iPad... I've been searching for the bag for me and have gone through several. The best bag i've used for the iPad was the Tom Bihn Ristretto. My only real complaint of this bag was how easily it got/looked dirty. Since i have not been able to find an acceptable bag i've been tranporting my iPad in one of my small classic messengers which is still too large for the iPad. I decided to take another look at the Timbuk2 Classic Messenger XS. Of my two previous issues, one has been fixed with the addition of a grip pad that does not slide. In addition, I was able snag a $100 "Bag-In-a-Box" gift card for $74.99(+ $6 cash back). I've also sent in my spare "flawed" messenger to their bag recycling program to get 20% off coupon. I should get everything this week then I can order a custom XS classic messenger. $125 after the add-ons, but will only cost me $68.99 in the end. I probaly should have stuck with Timbuk2 to begin with, but all's well that ends well.

I'll post some pics when I get my bag.

Cool!! I love mine...

But you are still going to hate the strap length. It is comfy for me to carry on my shoulder without the pad though, so that works.

I find the strap too thick/bulky to bend over my shoulder, so i just shove it down and use the bag without it.

The strap is seriously my only complaint!

Can't wait to see what you got!!

I don't know if I hate the strap length, but definitely wish it were longer. My small classic (strap fully extended) when worn across my left should comes down to right above my butt. It's not too short to the point that it's uncomfortable to wear, I just wish I could wear it lower sometimes, especially when it was loaded with text books. I think the light contents (ie. IPad, nook, and accessories) will make it less of an issue.

My biggest complaint was having to alway readjust the strap pad. That was really annoying and i'm really glad they now have a no slip pad available.

Would you mind posting a pic of the Nikon D40 in the bag along with the iPad?

I have the Freestyle XS netbook bag that I got from Microcenter for $45 and I love it. iPad in the Cyber Acoustics case fits perfectly plus I can carry documents, notebook, and plenty of accessories with no problem.

Any chance I could see pics of this? I'm thinking of picking up a 2010 Small Classic Messenger for a 13" MBP and my SLR. Thanks.

Edit: Nvm. Just found some pics here. Maybe this will help someone else.

Have an XS, thinking about a S

I have an XS, as a man-purse, but thinking about going to a small. With a case like the Vaja it is kind of a tight fit. I am thinking of getting a Small too. Actually might get the Small Laptop Messenger and have a little padding.

Anyone else go with a Small for an iPad? (I saw some are using for small MacBooks)

(On sale at Ebags with a coupon, I think)

My daughter carries so much crap I'm her freestyle i think she needs a small. Or a medium. Ye gads.

How much? The other day i mentioned i think I forgot to put more deodorant on, she said, oh, I have some in my bag. I carry EVERYTHING.

On the other hand, maybe given her more room to carry more crap isn't such a good thing?!?!

I'd get the laptop version for the padded pocket i guess - that is the one thing i notice on the XS pics that I'd miss. My pocket is soft on the whole inside, i don't have anything but a speck candy shell on my iPad and i can just slip it in no worries which way it faces.
