Stupid reponse above, thinking does not tell you how the services are in your area. you have to buy and try. Verizon sucks in my part of Austin. returning my 32gb. Will trade it for an ATT with anyone in Austin.

Great! Another returned iPad. The geek at my store said they already got refurbs. You people are adding a $100 to all of our devices.

Why did you not think before you bought in the first place?

Really! If I am paying close to a grand for a tablet (64 4g AppleCare ) I will return it if that is the only way to test the product. And yes I am a stock owner also; and I am not worried about the returns bringing down their earnings per share.

Anyway

Guess what, just returned my AT&T for a vzw. I will test this baby out and report back. So far lte at the house were att had only 4g. Lte on vzw seems slower so far via speed test.

So if this vzw 64 does not provide better coverage, I will return this one and go back to att. Ha that will piss ya off.

If I took my AT&T iPad say to Canada could I pop in a sim from Rogers and select a data option from them on the iPad itself? Or, would I have to go through the same workaround?

From what I've read, you can only purchase a Rogers 3G plan on the device. If you want an LTE plan, you have to stop at a Rogers store and sign up for a plan.

If you don't mind going with 3G, make sure that you have a Rogers SIM intended for the iPad. You should be able to stop at an Apple Store to get one for free, at least that's how I got mine.

I'll never support Verizon with Apple, the wannabe that messes up when they turned Apple down in 07.

Verizon is an easy choice if you currently have a Verizon LTE 4G phone with the microsim.

I don't even use my Verizon galaxy nexus for phone calls or texts. Or slide my microsim into the iPad. Bamm. Unlimited LTE 4G data baby!

I have another line as my main line.

I went with AT&T, because they charge $30 for three gigs, where Verizon charges the same $30 for only two gigs. Also my iPhone is with AT&T, so when they eventually release their shared data plans, I'll be able to take advantage of it on both my iPhone and my 2 (soon to be 3) iPads.

I have Verizon iPad and the fallback onto CDMA is pretty lousy and choppy on my commute to NYC. I kinda want to get an AT&T one to test for a day for better LTE. I have unlimited AT&T from my last iPad.

I'd go with Verizon, especially if you have their phone service. Later this summer they will have family plans for data so you may have the opportunity to get data at little or no extra cost.

I switched out my wifi ipad 3 today for the LTE one (AT&T) and I'm loving it. Paid for the 5GB plan for this month. On average so far I'm getting 25 down, 20 up. Highest was 41.

YEP, you ARE the poster child and a prime example of what is wrong with people today! Another "entitled person":p

And do not flatter yourself as there is no way someone like you could piss me off.:p

No not when I pay for something and just want the best model for the investment. Yes Entitlement is what is wrong with this country, but those are the people that are to lazy to work and want a hand out. Like the occupy groups which are basically the homeless demanding a free place to stay and people living off the gov. I could go on but not the right forum.

WAIT,

I think I am starting to agree with you!

I live in the D.C. area and have also been considering returning mine for a Verizon iPad but I just can't bring myself to give any more money to Verizon. The almost $300 a month I give to them for FiOS is enough. The only area where I have LTE signal issues is at home and I have Wi-Fi there so its a non-issue, however signal is great at work where there is no Wi-Fi and LTE comes in handy.

I understand I liked AT&T also and give all my $ to big red. I will try out my vzw for next few days and report back. Also you can not, not think about resale value. I hate to admit it but we are all suckers for the next big think. So why I think Verizon may pull a stronger value.

1. Hotspot. (for now)
2. iPhone 5. Okay work with me on this one but when AT&T customers decide to buy the iPhone five via Verizon lte they can take the Sim out of there old att iPhone and use it in the Verizon iPad. Secondly, if you buy the iPhone five via Verizon you may be able to take to sim out of the iPhone and put it into the iPad and get unlimited data (grandfathered).

But the real kicker is going to be robustness and coverage. AT&T seems to be desperate and needs to merge with someone in order to take on Verizon.

Verizon needs to keep pumping out the 4G in more places. But it AT&T comes through and equals Verizon's 4G coverage AT&T speed smokes Verizon.

Sorry way too much thought this need get back to work.

AT&T "smoking" Verizon is some places is likely only due to network load. AT&T has few LTE user now, and Verizon has something like 5 million. Once AT&T gets more LTE users and expands like Verizon I'd expect their speed to drop radically. It's not like 3G, there is no technical superiority to AT&T's LTE versus Verizon's. It's the same technology only different frequencies. There is no AT&T LTE in my area or even any announced plans. And I still get crappy AT&T 3G speeds on my iPhone 4S (even though it now says "4G"). I haven't seen any real improvement in AT&T data in my area since the iPhone 3G.

Don't listen to these trolls. If you're not happy with the device, return it. Period. Its an expensive piece of hardware and you should be completely satisfied with it. Apple makes TONS of money off refurbs, returns and re-conditioned items. No worries. In fact, part of the reason why their products are this expensive is because of the cost of costumer service behind them. Take advantage of it. I did.

Yea, let us know how your Verizon iPad fares. Since I update my iPad every year anyway I think I'm just going to stick with AT&T and if there's no improvement in coverage by the time the next iPad is released I'll more than likey go with the "big red." But for now, since AT&T's LTE network isn't overloaded with subscribers the data speeds are unbelievable, they surpass even my Wi-Fi speeds at home.

However, speaking of speeds, what are you clocking with your VZW iPad?

What are you asking? Sounds like you made a decision already. I prefer my AT&T iPad. It's smoking in San Diego. Plus the pricing is far better than Verizon. $30 for 3GB is far better than $20 for 1GB.

Mind if I ask want part of San Diego you're located and what type of speeds you're getting? I'm like the OP and considering swapping mine too. I have Verizon now and only getting about 11 Mbps in Poway. I think the 3GB price point with At&T might be my ideal and I'm hoping it will be faster.

Att is not as bad as people say here, but I went with Verizon: 1. faster growing and large LTE coverage 2. 20/1 plan 3. tethering 4. I have ATT iphone, VZ gives me more flexibility.
The only thing for me is VZW has worse customer service compare to ATT, but if go to the store it is the opposite story. It took 2 hours to activate my internet, they helped me in 1 min in the store.
Nothing is perfect, but I don't want to pay 120$/year more for wireless data :)

Advice: when you return your ATT ipad, ask for refund and buy VZ ipad, you will have another 14 days to try

I agree with everything you said. I'd just like to emphasize the customer service difference. I've always had AT&T cell phones and am pretty used to the type of customer service they provide. In the week and a half I've had the Verizon iPad, I've spoken to them on the phone twice and gone into a store once. All experiences were exasperating. Felt they were less accommodating and unprofessional. Probably just me, but I definitely like AT&T a lot better. Using Verizon's prepaid data on the iPad, I probably won't interact with them after after this initial period, but for my cell phone service, I wouldn't change.

AT&T grandfathered iPad plan = $30 5GB of LTE

I went with AT&T, because they charge $30 for three gigs, where Verizon charges the same $30 for only two gigs. Also my iPhone is with AT&T, so when they eventually release their shared data plans, I'll be able to take advantage of it on both my iPhone and my 2 (soon to be 3) iPads.

AT&T's old grandfathered unlimited plan gives you 5 gigs on LTE for $30. You must get all your data on LTE for that deal. That where they begin to limit your data speed. You can go over for more data at the $30 level, albeit at a slower speed. I understand few AT&T users know this as it only applies to a plan not currently sold to new iPad users and of course it never applied to Android tablets.

I guess AT&T is taking advantage of those who were clueless when it comes to buying tablets if they bought an Android.

In NW Metro Atlanta suburbs I am getting 37Mb+ per second which is faster than my land line cable. The upload speed is fantastic also.

Verizon said I lived in their 4G area but as a ham I knew enough to check more carefully and it was easy to determine my whole subdivision which is near a hill was not 4G capable on Verizon. It is in a 4G radio shadow to their local tower's location. 4G and 3G are on different Verzion radio frequencies.

Verizon essentially misleads their customers who do not carefully investigate further.

I live in Coronado. Right now in Chula Vista, I am getting 22MB up and 20MB down. That is consistent with what I get in Coronado and downtown. Haven't been up as far as Poway, so I can't help you there.

So far I get vzw lte at the house. 10 - 12 down 1-5 up. That's with 2 bars. Not that impressive. Faster than AT&T 4g but it should be. At work in DC 5 bars outside 16.75 down 16 up. That's good. Inside work where I got no signal with AT&T I get two bar lte 12 down .50 up. So that is a huge plus.

But even with the fast speeds it just seems vzw loads web pages slower. I just start testing so we shall see.

Knowing that the deadline was fast approaching, I finally activated cellular tonight.

I have the Verizon version. Gotta say that activation couldn't have been quicker or easier. The first thing I did was test the hot spot functionality. I was able to Logon to my employer's network using VPN without any problem. Since I don't have a smartphone, the hot spot functionality is important to me. As a telecommuter, it's reassuring to have backup Internet access. LTE's sweet too!

I bought the AT&T one, but in Sacramento AT&T is pretty overloaded so pretty slow. Traded it in last night for the Verizon model and it's so much worse, both at home in a suburb and at work downtown. Best speeds I've seen so far: 1.75 down and .64 up. No lie -- that's 3 bars of LTE in downtown Sacramento.

Verizon: We're like dial-up on the go. YMMV, of course, but for me SO not worth the trouble.

I did the same thing with similar results. That is what I get for seeing if the grass was any greener on the otherside.

Anyone know if apple would accept an exchange a second time?
