see, i KNEW id get the good info here. i really love you guys, no joke!

a few things....

i am wanting a laptop for ease of use, anywhere. i dont lug this one around, but if i need to, i do. so that rules out an iMac (which i do own an old one)

while i am not a MUST BE 15" Screen kinda guy, i AM open to the 13", would have to get used to the smaller screen (is that something that is possible?)

Retina? ..... obviously this computer doesnt have a retina display, and it
looks just fine to me when i watch movies/tv/etc

i upgraded from the iPhone 4S to the iPhone 6+, and the screen DOES blow me away. i am wondering if the same thing would apply to a MPB

i have a lot of music on my iTunes. i have it all backed up on an external hard drive, which would suck up all the flash memory on a new MBP.

is there a way to just keep the music/movies on the external hard drive, and use that as the storage FOR the iTunes. Not sure im wording that correctly.

Listen my friend, you need a base model 15" MBPr. I don't care if you buy a brand new or a refurbished one to save a few dollars, that is what you need.

Go on ahead and pick one up at www.apple.com

They have one waiting just for you :)

You guys are VERY convincing! LOL

Looking like i should get the base model 15" rMBP

i do have to venture out to an Apple Store to physically see both models

im guessing Apple Care is a no brainer as well?

I wouldn't hesitate to buy AppleCare considering how long you'd want the computer to last and how much you're already paying for it.

Absolutely. Go on ahead and pickup AppleCare, but do so from either Amazon.com or b&h. They got it at $244 versus $349 at the Apple Store. With that kind of a discount you can take the savings and take your spouse out to a nice dinner after buying your new Macbook to celebrate!

Hey, that's what I'd do.

I know an imac has been ruled out, but have you considered a smaller macbook plus an external display? You can get a nice 27" monitor for ~$400 and pair it with a 13" pro or even an air. More screen real estate when docked, you have the portability when you need it, and still less $ overall than the 15"

Maybe you just don't want that much hardware in your life which is understandable. But given that you don't really need the power of the 15" it seems like a reasonable alternative and I think you would enjoy the larger monitor.
