So still looking around at trade in sites, came across a site called igotoffer, which from what I can tell seems to have positive reviews - they seem to offer a lot more than anyone else.

They are currently offering $380 or $280 for a 64 GB 6 in flawless condition, depending on whether or not the phone is "fully disconnected from your carrier" which also has a description to the effect of "you MUST call your carrier and delete the device from your account so it's ready for the next owner." I'm not really sure what this means, because I could see myself calling Verizon and them being like what the F are you talking about? If you can do this, you get $380, if you can't, then $280.

Seems too good to be true, but I'm not seeing any real bad reviews for this place.

Anyone use igotoffer?

Flawless condition for a 2 year old device?
Wonder if most these places say they'll give you this much and once they receive your device they start lowballing you.

Who knows, never had problems with Gazelle. My stuff is indeed flawless. Also the quotes at this igotoffer place are good for 14 days.

I hear you. I know gazelle has a good rep. Not sure of all these other places that pop up.
I'll still use swappa probably to maximize my return.

Swappa seems to be a forum darling here...I've never used it, but it looks like they use PayPal...doesn't PayPal ALWAYS side with the buyer just like ebay? Not saying I haven't use PayPal to sell stuff here on the forums with good results, but everyone avoids ebay like the plague since they always side with the buyer, but isn't PayPal just the same?

What makes people more likely to use Swappa, e.g. what makes people so sure that a buyer on Swappa isn't going to scam you and say they got a brick in the mail and get PayPal to give them a refund?

Yep, paypal almost always sides with the buyer. However, I have sold many, many, many phones on swappa and not had a single chargeback. I vet my buyers once I get their name & address and communicate with them on the private sale page post-sale. So far no issues.

Just make sure you take really good pictures and be very clear about any imperfections.

I think what they mean is that the device cannot be currently active on a line. For instance, if you are on Verizon, you need to put the SIM card in another device or terminate the line. That's true for prepaid too. If you don't do that, no one else can activate a new Verizon SIM card in the device.

I never resell my Apple products. I either repurpose them to a lesser function or give them to family members. Worrying about future resale value never crosses my mind and I find the prospect of a dead zone without said product horrifying. You people are braver than me.

I think people make this way more complicated than it needs to be. I just sell mine as soon as I get the next one.

All this "market timing" business is unnecessary IMO,and it's definitely not worth going without a phone for weeks just so I can net $30-$40 more than I would after launch day.

I'm probably only gonna get $250 for my 64gb IP6 and $200 for 16gb IP6 from AT&T. I'll use it towards my bill!!!

So then what do you do for almost a month, while you have no phone?
I sold my old iPhone 5 a month prior to the 6 being released. I had to get a SIM adapter for my old original iPhone and used that for a month. It was hell. It was fun carrying around the old phone but it was so painfully slow, almost unusable. But I could still text and make calls and check email.

No you do not. Verizon can add a "dummy phone" on the line and it would keep the line active.

No, none of the dummy ESNs work any longer. They have Provisional Device IDs now but the reps are forbidden from using them for anything but phone swaps. They risk their jobs if they put one on your line for anything other than a very short term reason. And they now audit any lines that have those PDIs on them for longer than 1 week and they will fire a rep for that.

O really they did for me, but that was back in 2014. This time around when I sold my iPhone I found a old 3G Flip Phone to use on my account.

The days of iPhones holding their resale value are over.

As the tide turns and Apple loses its luster, iPhones become just another phone. The last few years of complacency, profit taking and potification are catching up to Apple. Only the faithful view Apple through rose colored glasses.

Samsungs innovation, stellar design and world class performance have paid off.

You're right but for the wrong reason.

The days of iPhone's holding their resale value are over because the carriers removed subsidies and are offering customers no-money-down financing in exchange for slowly overcharging for the hardware. Over the course of two years people will pay 2x more for an iPhone but they get the convenience of not paying a big lump sum on day one.

That's what's killing the resale market. No one needs to pay you $300 for a used iPhone when they can waltz into an AT&T or Verizon store and walk out with a new one for no-money-down.

[doublepost=1472961935][/doublepost]I don't understand why you say you pay 2x more for it. It is interest free for the full price of the phone for 24/30 monthly payments. Where are you getting 2x the price from?

This is probably a dumb question - if you sell your phone early, you just keep the old SIM in order to keep your phone number, right? In other words, your phone number is stored on the SIM, so as long as you keep that and move it phone to phone your number won't change?
It is a dumb question and yes to whatever you asked. Unless it's a CDMA phone.

You are mistaken here. They don't charge anything extra for the hardware. It's exactly the price of the device, broken up into your chosen number of payments, with no interest.

I used to sell my phones every year which was reasonably easy in a college town with a large foreign student population. Since the move to these new plans though, it's just not worth it. The trade-in value AT&T gives me back is often within $50 of what I'd get selling it myself, and I don't have to return the accessories, they are much less picky about condition, I don't have to unlock it, and I don't have to deal with the hassles of selling on Craigslist. No-brainer.

I sold my 6s plus for 575 over the and uograded to the Note 7. Granted the phone may blow up I think that's a pretty good deal I got
