I was planning on getting to my local store at 8pm on Thursday, and if I'm the first one there, better for me :D

Wow thats pretty hardcore man, congrats. Im personally looking forward to meting some fellow Iphone lovers in the flesh during this time.

I will leave my house at 7am. The store is about 15 minutes away. I talked to the staff at my store and when it opens at 8am they will finally know how many they have and will let those in line know who gets one that day.

If you are NOT going to get one you will go into a different queue to order one for store delivery. I wish I had known about that last year because I would have gone to the store to order instead of using Apple online ordering. I would have had it much quicker from the AT&T store if I had gone through them.

However, I did get lucky because when I finally got one it was from the newer batch with the different screens.

It'd be too bad if the critics of the Large Hadron Collider are right and the Earth is turned into a ball of quark matter before the 3G iPhone comes out.

I had to say that. No one had said that yet. Besides, there's a non-infinite chance of it happening.

but we'd never know...

I plan on getting there about 15 mins before it opens. If there's a huge queue though, I'll go home and try later in the day as I have to take my son to school.

I'm hoping not many people here know about the new Apple store that just opened not long ago and the line will be short. But in reality, I bet all the NASA engineers will be there.

I'm thinking I'm getting to AT&T around 5am...5:30 at the latest. Then I can go next door, grab a coffee from starbucks, and then get in line.

This must really suck for you all but I have over 400 att stores and 3 apple stores in nyc so if I cannot find what I want I will go to another store.

All depends on when the Apple store opens for me.

Has there been an update yet? I thought the 6th was the meeting/announce date.

I am going to take a guess and say some Apple stores open at midnight. A girl can dream! I can then just head to the Apple store once I wake up and the initial crowd has died down.

Today was the meeting, but they will most likely announce it to the public tomorrow.
I doubt that any Apple stores will open at midnight, it is better publicity to open during the day when normal people can see the line and say, " Hey, what is that line for?" And since it can only be activated in AT&T now they will open around when AT&T opens to accommodate for that. But it would be nice if they did.

The question de jour is which to go to first?

I would rather go to an Apple Store, as I'm fairly certain they'll have their act together (compared to at&t)...but I wonder which NYC location is going to be the best bet.

Fifth avenue is going to get the most in but will likely have the biggest lines - especially with the news of that stupid stunt. West 14th will probably have the second largest allocation of units given how new the location is. I'd imagine SOHO would have the fewest. Not sure what the lines would look like in either of the non 5th ave stores.

Perhaps meatpacking is the way to go. What are the other NYC'ers doing?

Even though I am not planning on getting the iPhone 3G anytime soon, if I were, then I would probably wait until the 12th or 13th before setting foot inside the Apple Store, I wouldn't even consider going into the store to buy any other product. The stores are going to be way too hectic on the 11th and depending where, possibly the 12th. The only way that you could get me into an Apple store on the 11th is if I drove by 30 minutes before closing and it looked empty.

by far soho i love them over there no long lines or anything but i am also lucky to have a att wireless like 4 blocks away from my apartment which carried the 1st gen iphone. oh well all i know is that my unlimited metrocard will be getting a good work out.

I am waiting at the @ the Biltmore Apple Store in Phoenix, Az starting on the 10th of July at 11 P.M. I won't be able to sleep; the iPhone is like Christmas for me. I might as well stay up all night in front of my "Christmas" present so to speak.

Think they'll have a ton of units at 103 Prince, they've got to right?

Quite fankly I have thought about this and it scares the living crap outta me. Not the fact that I wouldn't get an Iphone, more the fact that a black hole could be created and destroy earth before we knew what happened.

I don't think there will be a shortage this launch (could be wrong) but seems like Apple knows this time around to flood the market with the device. Also we have the forced ATT contract keeping the ebay sellers and unlockers out of line this time around.

idk but i feel everyone is blinded by the new 14th street they forgot about the soho one but anyways i forgot theres a apple store on Staten island.
but i think that we should have a larger stock of iphone than regular?
