When I go to the airport utility my iPad air connection comes up as excellent. While my iPhone 6+ Connection comes up as good.

The data rate for the iPad air 2 is 300 Mb/s
The data rate for the. iPhone is 135 Mb/s

I see 866 for the iPad and 433 for the iPhone with them sitting side by side. So looks like the iPad has much better antennas or something. They both speedtest the same for me though. This is with the new AC Time Capsule about ten feet away through one wall.

Will be interesting to see these numbers once you get the AC Time Capsule.

On my iMac I'm getting 82down Ethernet, 64down wifi.

All you need to do is go to your local TWC store and have them replace the modem/router combo with just a docsis3.0 modem. They'll do it all for free.

From what I have read, the only modem TWC currently provides that supports the 16 channel bonding OP needs it the combo Arris DG1670A he already received. I am not aware of a stand alone modem TWC provides yet that will handle 16 channels down. Regardless, they will still charge the modem rental fee so it won't be free.

I don't know about that, I'm reading on other forums that they offer a Surfboard SB6183 that supports the 16 channel bonding. Which is just a modem. And yes you do have to pay a monthly fee. But for the price of modem's it seems worth it in the long run especially if it breaks. Which most of them in my experience eventually do.

i just purchased a 6183 from best buy, it's all hooked up and working fine. I'm about to change my airport express to a TIme Capsule.

As for TWC rentals those days are over just returned a Arris 820A and 1670A

We have been discussing the SB6183 in this thread, and the OP bought one, but I have not seen anywhere that TWC is issuing them.

Buy/rent is a personal decision I guess. Back when it was $2.99 a month it was a closer call, but now at $5.99 (and I'm sure it will go up), to me the decision to buy is easy. My SB6141 has paid for itself easily twice over already.

Nice speeds. Still waiting for the MAXX speed upgrade here.
I was going to upgrade to the 300/20 mainly because I assumed wireless speeds would be lower than 200Mbs. Not sure if another 100Mbs would make a real world difference.

I suspect not unless you are downloading huge files all the time. When I went from 20/2 to 30/5 I honestly could not tell the difference in day to day web surfing. I can tell when say a 5GB OS X upgrade comes out and I have to DL that, but otherwise not really.

I am thinking when the MAXX speeds come out I might drop down to the new Turbo tier that would be 100/10. Still over double the speeds I have now and less money.

My latest TWC statement mentions that they'll be increasing a few of their monthly fees starting next month. For me and the people leasing one of their modem/routers the price has increased from $5.99 to $8.00

That's $96 every month so it looks like I'm pulling the trigger and getting my own modem/router combo. I planned on waiting for TWC Maxx to roll out in my area and for Apple to update the Airport Extreme but I guess it's time to make my move.

Planning on getting the Airport Extreme and SB6183 from Best Buy. Any advice/suggestions before I spend any money? Thanks guy and happy holidays

I also noticed that price bump. Kind makes buying your own modem an easy decision now I think. If you want to be ready for the upcoming MAX speeds, I believe that 6183 it your only option if you want to own your modem.

People in this TWC forum seem to be doing okay with it. I plan to buy that same model as soon as the MAX speeds roll out here.

Which router do you have or plan on using? Setting my "brand loyalty" aside I'd like to hear your feedback on the Airport Extreme or any other router you'd suggest.

I'd be connecting an iMac, rMBP and two iPhones to the network so I'm sure there'd be a few advantages having the Extreme...

My upgrade experience

Super easy with TWC. I noticed on my bill I had been upgraded to 300/20 but my modem was only rated for 100/5. I went in, they gave me a new box and blammo! 320/22 with a wired connection. 320/22 via my Airport Extreme to a rMBP. Yeah. I'm loving life right now.

BUT... my issue is with the NAT infrastructure between the two. I normally like to have the DHCP server on the AE in case something happens to the Cable Modem (service goes out, cable modem dies, etc.). This will allow me to have limited functionality in the house (NAS, TiVo streaming, etc.). I haven't quite figured out how to get bridging to properly work between the two. The Arris has a setting to disable DHCP assignment and enable bridge mode. I can then successfully get DHCP / NAT working properly on the AE. However, I lose access to the web gui on the Arris. I've tried giving the Arris a dedicated IP on the subnet for the AE but it's been a no-go. Also, the Arris web gui can be quite slow when there are many clients on the device. Response to a webpage on the Arris can take up to 10 minutes to render! This makes trial and error quite difficult (not including the reboot times)

I just got the link to the Arris Web Gui manual so I'll take a breeze through that and report back to the forums. For now, I'm using the Arris DHCP server.

Give the Extreme a static IP on the Arris and add it to the DMZ on the Arris. Then enable DHCP and NAT on the Extreme and ignore the warning of Double NAT as it is a false positive.
