Long time lurker here on the forums and finally decided to join!

I just purchased my white XS unlocked from apple and right away noticed there is what seems an electric current running through my fingers no matter which hand I hold it in. I'm thinking maybe it has something to do with the stainless steel band. The tingly feeling would last about 15 minutes or so before finally starts going away. I've only been able to find about 2-3 other threads anywhere where somebody has had this exact issue over on the apple discussion boards with their X or XS phones. One person had his phone exchanged and still the same thing persisted! Luckily I still got my 8 Plus handy cause i think this bad boy might have to go back.

What's really unfortunate is that I didn't have any of the other issues some people are having with LTE/ WiFi and super yellow screens.

Put it in a case, problem solved.

If it still tingles, probably due to the wild exuberance of having the latest iPhone in your hands. This will pass in a few weeks as you calm down and realize you have little money left for food.

And if you think it’s unfortunate you don’t have other problems, perhaps a quick trade with someone here on forum that has a phone with multiple issues. I recall one person that has swapped out 16 phones.

I mean i know i can do that, I was more curious if anyone else has had this happen. It seems like a very rare issue.
Perhaps a galvanic response to moisture and salts in your hands. Go to apple store and pick up table sample phones, see if they do it too.

I have this exact same issue with my XS.

I didn't notice it on mine until about 7-10 days in, which is kinda weird. Tried taking it back (after the two-week grace period) but the Apple Genius said that it 'wasn't a known issue', and they couldn't reproduce it themselves.

Some days I don't notice it much at all, others it's really noticeable. I think it's probably to do with static electricity, as there might be a correlation between the weather being cold and dry (making my hands dry) and it happening. (Low humidity = more static.) Though when I looked into whether stainless steel was particularly prone to static, this website said that it was one of the few materials that is relatively neutral to static: https://school-for-champions.com/science/static_materials.htm

Don't have this issue with any other electronics that I've owned, so I still believe it's a fault with the phone.

Really frustrating problem to have, though, especially when Apple won't acknowledge that it's a real thing. King_SC, did you take yours back in the end?

Yeah, I sent mine back and started using my 8+ again, I just kinda got annoyed with it after a few days. I'm willing to bet a lot more people have this issue, but most slap a case on as soon as they buy a new device so they don't even know it's there.

Well I would buy/exchange for another one, but I don't want to play the exchange game with all other issues being reported.

Oh yeah, there are so many issues with this phone that everyone is having to replace them and can't stand them. This has to be the worst phone Apple has ever put out! Like everyone I know has had to return theirs even 16 times and they still couldn't find a usable phone. </sarcasm>

Amazing Apple stays in business!

Amazing that a battery powered phone gives you "tingly" feelings on your fingers like AC current! Your hands wet?

Absolutely amazing what people come up with. Lol
I am marketing an XS user kit for $19.99

Kit contains, nonconducting rubber gloves, ear plugs and non see through safety goggles painted over with coating to protect from IR face scan.

As a limited time option for first 100 purchasers, free roll of aluminum foil is included. Sufficient foil provided for both head wear and reproductive organ protection.

Use (well not so much) your iPhone XS safely. Protects against all hazards.

Use of this product may severely limit any practical use of the iPhone XS, but you will be safe.

Hands dry, and it happens within a couple minutes of holding onto the phone whether the screen is on or off. It would take a while for it to fully go away as well, really strange.

Interesting. Well, if it really does happen I feel sorry cuz I couldn't imagine life without my phone. :p Hope you get it resolved.

And if you are from Iowa, /wave from another Iowan -- I live in CA now but a lot of my family is still in Iowa.

At least I know you're being genuine. Isn't it annoying when people deny the existence of something because they haven't themselves experienced it? I think that's called ignorance.

I'm gonna have to stop by a Best Buy and see if their floor models do the same thing. Maybe it's just me that conducts more electricity lol

I'm having the same exact issue with my XR! Did you ever get it resolved somehow?

I agree. Something is wrong with the phone and people are making jokes about it. It can escalate in to something worse. Like an exploding battery or phone! sheesh.

Ever put a 9v battery on your dry skin? Ever do the same with wet skin or your tongue? Ever use a MBP without a grounded power plug and run your fingers across the metal body of the MBP and feel the "tingly" feeling that comes from AC power?

There's a reason why people are making fun of this...

Three people stating they think the phone is making their hands tingle is hardly evidence something is wrong with the phone. Where are all the articles or threads on the subject? Surly it would be on multiple forums and support sites right? Yet, three people complaining on a slow moving thread constitutes a design flaw.. Got it. Just like Faceid causes blindness..

No I sent it back to Apple. That sucks if it's happening on the XR as well, I'm tempted to try again with another XS but haven't decided yet

Do you get the same feeling when you try the phones in the Apple Store? Genuinely curious.

Have you ever thought the general public buys a device, slaps an Otterbox on it, and never touches the actual phone for a long time? Lol.

XS: the most toxic iPhone in history.

Waterboards some people's eyes
Sends current through their hands

When I have my phone in my hand, if I even look at it, or worse talk about it, I think I can hear aliens...

In my opinion, I feel people are looking for things wrong with the XS as a means to an end. Many times it's a complaint about something to do with the phone, followed by a comment about the price, and then justification for returning the phone. I wish people would just cut to the chase and say it cost too much money and they should not have bought it.
