I just purchased my white XS unlocked from apple and right away noticed there is what seems an electric current running through my fingers no matter which hand I hold it in. I'm thinking maybe it has something to do with the stainless steel band. The tingly feeling would last about 15 minutes or so before finally starts going away. I've only been able to find about 2-3 other threads anywhere where somebody has had this exact issue over on the apple discussion boards with their X or XS phones. One person had his phone exchanged and still the same thing persisted! Luckily I still got my 8 Plus handy cause i think this bad boy might have to go back.

What's really unfortunate is that I didn't have any of the other issues some people are having with LTE/ WiFi and super yellow screens.
When it's plugged in? If so, it's a known thing.

Are we really all going to ignore the fact he said white XS lol no such thing. XR you mean?
One man’s silver can be the next man’s white when the color looks like this. I doubt the OP didn’t realize which phone he had.

Electromagnetic sensitivity syndrome (ESS) is a rare condition similar to Chemical sensitivity syndrome. Purchase a CellSensor from Amazon, it is a little gauss meter. Avoid areas that measure high fields in your apartment. Tat helps to avoid fields.

There is a documentary series that featured a victim of this last year......

I think it was called Better Call Saul. The subject is Chuck and his condition ultimately led to his demise. Unfortunately.

If anyone thinks their phone is receiving 110V AC, it’s time to educate yourself. That white cube thing that Apple provided with the phone and plugs into wall outlet is a transformer/rectifier that takes voltage down to 5V DC.

If you can feel 5V on skin of your hand, well you are one unique individual.

Now if you are using some non Apple power adapter those have been shown to bleed 120V across circuits. Knock offs have cheap components and lack proper spacing and insulation between high and low voltage circuit boards.

Thank you for this post. Nice to see educated individuals still existing out there on the interwebs.

More than likely, the reporting individuals have nerve involved carpal tunnel. One person reported the tingling starts after several minutes of holding phone and continues for up to 30 minutes after.

I suggest holding another object similar in size and weight to the phone. See if that induces the tingling sensations.

While I don’t dispute these few people feel what they are feeling. It a big leap to blame it on the phone. Attach a grounded volt meter to the phone exterior, see if there is any current flowing. Alternately take a nine volt battery and touch contacts to the skin of hand. If you can’t feel the tingle from nine volts, you certainly won’t feel 5V, if it were bleeding to phone exterior.

Simple experiments that the several individuals can do to rule things out or in.

I have worked with Electromagnetic Sensitivity Syndrome people for 28 years. Some are sensitive to Radio fields like Cellular Phone 4G emissions, like Smart Meters from the utilities, like Radar, like FM radio towers. Some to ELF (Extremely Low Frequency) magnetic fields (measured with Gauss meters in milliGauss or Teslas), like 60 cycle power lines. Some to the Electric field of 60 cycles (measured in Volts per meter.)

There are several books on the subject.

There are dozens of Gauss meters in the market. The most authoritative website for health effects is microwavenews.com

Extraordinary claims of sensitivity to electromagnetic waves requires extraordinary proof. There are millions of books and thousands of people making all sorts of claims. There are books written and people claiming the earth is flat. That in no way proves their claims.

Something like this requires experimentally verified double blind studies. Pier reviewed and repeatable by numerous researchers for me to give any credence to them.

I am completely open to any possibilities, all I require is experimental evidence following tried and true scientific methodologies.

Newtonian physics was accepted as accurate for hundreds of years until it was clearly and repeatedly demonstrated that Newton’s calculations are approximations, valid at low speeds and low gravity. Relativity describes what is actually happening, regardless of how strange it may seem to our everyday experience.

Debate, claims, eye witness testimony, voting are all useless. Do the experiments, repeat the experiments. Take out any error, subjective feelings, and then explain what the experiments reveal.

I know what you mean; my 5s tingles when it’s plugged in on charge.. a few of my home products do it actually, including the amplifier for the home cinema and the MacBook

I have had multiple devices feel like your finger in vibrating along the edge when lightly touching a device while plugged in. It is due to un-grounded charging circuitry.

I do not think this is what the thread is really about as what I feel is only when plugged in. Happen a lot at the Apple store with the units on display.

*UPDATE*

I have used another Xs extensively for a period of time recently as well as display models at Best Buy, so this issue was tied just to the one phone I purchased. Unexplainable.

On a side note: I think i still slightly prefer my 8 Plus, but we won't go into that discussion ;)

Yeah, I sent mine back and started using my 8+ again, I just kinda got annoyed with it after a few days. I'm willing to bet a lot more people have this issue, but most slap a case on as soon as they buy a new device so they don't even know it's there.

My max and my XR don’t have an issue like this. Both have been used a lot without the case on.

ive had this problem before but it only happens when I hold the phone for an extended period of time, like 2-3 hours of watching Netflix or a game.

If my iPhone X was straight up TINGLING in my hands like there was current going through it, I’d wear some safety gloves, goggles, wrap that thing up in a big box, throw it in the trunk, and transport that thing right back to the store and tell them to TAKE IT BACK.

No way I’m messing with it.

But that’s just my opinion.

My iPhone XS sometimes feels “odd” while holding the edges, when it’s plugged in. It doesn’t really bother me. But I wonder what causes it ? Weird sensation, like there’s current going round the metal edges.
