Where'd you end up going to grab a bite? NYC can be a very friendly place if you plan it well in advance ;).

Well both of us being students and on on a tight budget we mostly went with the cheaper options such as sandwiches from subway and the likes. For breakfast we mostly ate the egg + bacon + cheese bagels that deli shops offered. At the hotel there was even a refrigerator in our room so we were able to have to milk stored there as well and drink that in the morning before we went out. It would have been nice to eat out at fancier places but the food bill adds up quickly when you are constantly buying food from shops for 8 days straight.

Just wanted to say we had the most amazing trip, the weather was cold but dry most of the time and on some days sunny :) We got to se the 9/11 memorial site and underground museum, walked central park, statue of liberty, Carlos Bakery in new Jersey, a stand up show on Broadway, times square, got to see a NBA game at Madison Square Garden, walked Brooklyn bridge, national museum, empire state building and Wall Street. On the second day being there I bought a GoPro camera on sale and documented the whole trip and will be showing a compilation of footage to family and friends. People were so friendly and overall it was just an awesome experience.

Anyways thanks for the tips in the thread, it was really useful :)

Did you see the guy with the cat on his head?

That's too bad. I could've pointed you to some fantastic lunches that would've cost a similar amount to Subway. Next time though. A lot of great cheap hole in the walls along with the high-end restaurants.

I think we're headed back soon, no planning, we're professionals. I mean, air and hotel will be arranged in advance, but eating, drinking, sites, sounds, shows, etc., will be on the fly :D
