Why not be able to have that feature instead of not having it though?
When I'm in a basement I don't get good signal. It would be great if I could use my wifi instead to make calls with no issues or cutting out.
Can you bring with you your verizon or AT&T cellhotspot or microcell everywhere there is wifi?
I didnt think so.
With wifi calling you wont have to use or rent any equipment or beg your carrier for one or have to do any installations or use any additional equipment.
Your argument is pointless. Its a great feature to have available and hope other carriers enable that for their network.

Yes! Thank you. I'm loving my 'uncarrier' since switching from ATT.

Yeah, it's BS. They've already had wifi calling in phones for a long time now. WiFi calling has been free and worldwide for a long long time now on TMo. They're just leveraging everyone's WiFi to leverage TMo's spotty network.

The personal cell hotspot is pretty damn hilarious. VZW and AT&T have had these for years and TMo acts like it is revolutionary and they're changing the industry.

And guess what? Everyone is going to raving about this crap for the next few months and spewing their marketing BS... even though they've had this capability for a long long time now

Complain AutoUnion, but when you're in an area with crap AT&T and Verizon coverage (which happens, don't tell me otherwise), you'll cry out for some-sort of booster to the network, whether it be Wi-Fi calling or a cell site.

I find it shocking how you call T-Mobile's marketing "BS", yet they are becoming the #3 carrier soon and are racing to become #2.

You're in every T-Mobile thread spewing negativity and you're not even on their network.

Your opinions are hard to take seriously.

Since I travel abroad a few times per year for business, I find the changes extremely beneficial. Texting & emails in the air and being able to make wifi calls internationally without restriction is extremely valuable, from my perspective.

iPhone 6 with unrestricted wifi calling from anywhere, priceless!

Plus free texting overseas and free (albeit slow) data! :)

People are ignoring the fact that the $25 router is a $200+ router normally. It is one of the best routers on the market.

Say what you want...wifi calling is a big plus for people like my wife and I that work in basements or buidlings without service by any of the major carriers.

Hell....tmobile is the only provider that gets signal in my basement.

Exactly. Its a very nice wifi router. I can't wait to get it. Have a current 2 year old Asus router right now, and I have been very impressed with the results.

I wonder if the network is slowly getting congested to where they wanted a non-data-speed-intrusive way lessening the burden a little. The fact that they're just giving you a Wi-Fi router instead of something that actually puts out a cell signal (see: extender, or an AT&T 3G MicroCell) was a little odd.

That is a good point. Though my T-Mobile LTE speeds still seem excellent. Do you know if there is any kind of requirements for this device?

Doesn't seem like it. If you're a postpaid subscriber with good credit, it'll be free, minus a $25 deposit that you'll get back whenever you might be done with it.

Is it? The wifi calling feature has been present for tmobile for a while. Apple decided to support wifi calling in iOS 8...and in America that is a big deal, as is the iphone. So why not make a big deal about it, and even offer a great router has another draw to new and current customers.

You may be right about congestion...but they are less congested than other carriers...hence their faster lte speeds (where lte is present...which grows everyday).

Not necessarily, I have no issues. Even in my deep, underground parking garage at work and home. I guess it all depends on how the network has been deployed and the density of the cell-grid. Both things that TMo needs to work on. ;)

I understand exactly how it works kid. I'm referring to the WiFi router/micro-tower (Personal CellSpot) that T-Mobile is giving away since their network is spotty. Just like you can't take an AT&T MicroCell with you, you can't take a Personal CellSpot with you.

Nope. If you turn off WiFi, it will turn off WiFi calling, etc. WiFi Calling will enable only if you're connected to a network.

Cellular service deep in all basements and cement buildings? Come on guy. That's a serious reach for an argument even by your standards. I have an AT&T sim in my iPad rMini and it shows the same 'No Serivce' that my iPhone 5S does with T-Mobile underground in the buildings that I'm in for most of the day.

Wi-Fi calling is useful no matter how you spin it. It's better than a Microcell in every way and requires no additional equipment (extra cost). I'll enjoy being one of the only people having full cellular service available in these buildings in a few weeks while everyone else is unable to text/call any of their contacts who don't have iPhones.

I'm sure AT&T will get it one day.
