To 5C critis - what should have Apple released?

An S4 is about the same price off contract but is more expensive than the 5C. Many people in the US buy phones on contract anyway.

I understand that some folks are disappointed with the 5C, and it just might not be the right phone for them. On the others hand, I think a lot of people are going to really enjoy this phone. It is basically the iphone 5 with a better front facing camera, larger battery, and more color choices. The plastic is fine with me, since most people put their phones in plastic cases anyway.

I know people are disappointed about the price, but we have four iPhones in my household, so on a two year upgrade cycle the 5c is about $200 per year less expensive than replacing the higher end model. I am pretty sure nobody in the house is going to suffer from lack of spec and features, and they will enjoy picking out colors.

I would've rather Apple cut their absurdly high profit margins and made it actually affordable. Especially because it's cheaper to make and the parts are at least a year old.

The parts don't cost that much in the first place. They would be saving a lot in R & D.
