I had the Black one at release and returned it for the White. Had to pay the restocking fee but it was worth it.

I love the white/silver combo much more than the black/slate.

It's all personal preference though.. go for what you what not what others tell you what they like?
This

I had the black one but it looked dull and got scratched easily, plus the fingerprints drove me insane, so I got a replacement in white and silver and is sooo much better, I love the silver finish at the chamfered edges and the back...don't let me start

I thought the black and slate was all that and I used to bash the white and silver, but you have to see it in real life to appreciate its beauty

If you're scared about imperfections get the white one. I have a black one (no problems yet) but with the issues around I don't think it would be worth it. Plus you can see some finger print smudges on the back of the black one :p

Black iPhone. Flawless out the box, after a few weeks still flawless.

Previously i had the white 4S but i just love the black iPhone 5. It looks like a stealth bomber.

I'm loving the black. I thankfully escaped scuff gate unscathed. I do think that the black looks better for apps that haven't been updated for the iPhone 5's bigger screen. The black letter-boxing blends right in with the top and bottom black bezel.

Wish I went for white because of scratches. The reason I ordered a white ipad mini!

Yup. I like my black one. My last iPhone was white. I have no scuffs or scrapes on mine.

Same here. Had a white 4S, went with black/slate 5, couldn't be happier.
LOVE the "stealthy" look of it. I also like how much the colors seem to "pop" more against the black. I found the colors seemed a bit washed out with my white 4S like on a monitor that has a silver bezel (I returned my white iPad for a black one for this same reason. The colors just appear much more vivid to my eyes when the display is surrounded by an all black bezel)
It's a week 39 that was flawless when I received it and so far (two weeks) not a scratch or mark on it. Just put a full body Wrapsol skin on it and it's in a very slim case.
As others has said, I upgrade every year and need to keep the phone looking like new for maximum resale value.
