Well, Tim is a numbers guy. More of an accountant than innovative leader and marketing showman.

How will they continue to grow or even maintain current levels if they don't pull a rabbit out of their hat soon?
Apple makes more money from their services (App/iTunes stores, iCloud Storage, Apple Music, ApplePay, etc) now than they do from selling Macs.

Coincidence that this segment is revving up as sales in some hardware segments is declining?

Apple could easily outdo Samsung if they wanted it's all based on choices. The things I know Apple could do....

1. Make an attractive classy device that's waterproof and go the extra distance on super quality materials...

2. Produce the best phone camera on the market or equally as good as the best out there

3. Use the best screen on the market behind (samsung screens) or Apple even create it's own super screen ( they have the money to do anything)

4. Produce the best speakers out of any phone you ever heard (apple being so big into music why haven't they?)

All about them numbers... Apple rather add a few new tech items to outdated hardware than to fully kick Samsung's butt and be recrowned as the number 1 smartphone... Apple rather be in second place and go cheap as possible squeezing all they can out of its dated hardware. All about them numbers...

Either way Apple is going to sell a boat load of iPhones regardless of the content of the phone... That's why the 2017 iPhone is coming a year late, the 2017 phone should be the 2016 phone...

Apple better get on the ball and stop being so obsessed over money or in the end they will lose. They are spinning out of control and going to screw the pooch and let Samsung get so far ahead that it will be game over for Apple...

Think Tim think.... We don't want Samsung's current phone two years from now we want a better phone today....
I am hazarding a guess that part of the reason is scale. Getting your hands on the best tech in the market is one thing, ensuring you have sufficient quantity to outfit 10s of millions of iOS devices every month is another. It's not so easy as walking up to any hardware supplier, plonking down a wad of cash and going - I want 100 million of this screens every quarter. You need time for a factory to increase its scale, and you need time to ensure that quality isn't compromised as output increases dramatically.

So I am guessing the main reason why we haven't gone amoled with the iPhone is because up till recently, there wasn't any company on earth who can supply amoled displays in the quantities that Apple wants.

As for speakers, eh, most of the time, I am listening to music on my iPhone through earphones (though I have to admit that the quad-speaker design on the iPad pro really makes a difference).

Waterproofing...Apple is slowly but surely working its way towards that. No idea why they haven't managed to fully-waterproof the iPhone yet while Samsung has, perhaps they are erring on the side of caution (didn't Consumer reports recently report that the S7 active wasn't was waterproof as suggested?).

Camera - I think that's as good a camera we are going to get so long as the iPhone remains as thin as it is. Even Apple can't beat simple physics.

Tim is more Bill Gates than Steve Jobs when it comes to business sense. Steve really loved to inspire and change the world. He wanted Apple to make THE BEST products. It was never really about the money to him. He lived in a modest house. He wore modest clothes. Jony with all the cars he buys seems a little more into posh living. Tim is more like Bill Gates where it is all about the bottomline.

Apple is about innovation not throwing hardware in a phone. Don't need stereo speakers, want high quality audio. Don't need an ir blaster. Tru-tone and 1080 would be awesome. What Apple is doing in the healthcare field has the ability to help people with dangerous conditions. Tim is continuing what the company started under SJ.

When Apple makes a change its well thought out; look at how Touch ID has evolved. It's all good.
