That's strange. I had/have a Next plan and paid mine off online the Wednesday before preorders.

Trust me, next time I will be adamant about it. I was told by each person I talked to that I couldn't do it...I should have pushed harder. I have definitely learned to save *every* conversation I have with them so I can reference it later. They all say something different.

I would have LOVED to pay it off a few days in advance, but they would not allow that. I called twice and chatted twice. I was told I had to pay it off at the time of upgrade. I was also told to call AND get a chat rep at the time of pre-order to ensure everything went smoothly. When the time came, phone lines weren't accepting pre-orders and chat was closed. I was lied to. After being treated that way and then not even getting the phone at launch, probably, I definitely do not think I deserve to have to pay for a phone I shouldn't even have anymore by October. It is not my fault that they cannot meet the demand. Every time I call I get a different story and that is frustrating. Am I happy they will waive my installment? Yes. Do I think they absolutely should? Yes.

I made my 12th installment payment at 10:30 PM EDT the night of the pre-order, 7 days early to ensure that I was eligible for upgrade and didn't have any problems with the pre-order through the Apple Store app.

My next bill will be due by October 10th, which is the bill that I already paid the Next 12th installment on. That bill will not include the installment payment, since I prepaid it last week. The bill after that will be due November 10th and, if I don't have my phone by then, would include another installment payment. To me, it makes sense for them to make sure I am not charged for next month's installment since I already paid it. They just went a step further and said the next installment DUE will also not be charged. So, if my phones arrive at the time they state (10/16-10/23), I should be paying on them by the October bill (due in November) and not the current phones I have.

It probably would have been easier for the OP to just wait, get the phone, then have ATT retroactively apply any payments she made to her current phone to her new phone upon delivery?

I'd check in the details on the bill. It will say what payment number you were billed for and look at the billed to / from dates. Like I said, mine is from like 8/2 to 9/1 and due on 9/22. To have it due on 10/10 I'm not sure what you to/from dates would be but I'd guess the "to date" would be 21 days before the due date (like mine). That would mean it's 8/21 to 9/20 (if my math is right) and due 10/10, which is the one you paid early. So the next bill would be from 9/21 to 10/20 (ish). You're going to have your existing phone during that time (maybe longer?) so I think that sounds right... You owe them for another month.

I use the online site and only use CHAT with them. Here is an example why I absolutely do not trust anyone on a phone call..

If you do some clicking on the ATT site, you will find a NEXT chart that details each payment that is coming up, and when you have made previous payments.

I agree and this is how I exclusively speak with them now, too. I have it on transcript that I do not owe them until my bill due in December because of my pre-payment and their extra courtesy, unless my phone arrives before then, so that makes me happy that I can show that to them as proof.
