- Size
- Glass surface, nice to use
- Gestures, e.g. 3-fingers to drag (that's the one I find most useful, you have to enable it), 4-finger swipes for multiple desktops, show desktop, show all windows etc.

Agree that you have to re-train your hand so that you don't try to 'click' with your thumb (which registers as a multitouch gesture and causes all manner of fun) - I've encountered people with that problem. Personally, I could never bear to use lesser trackpads, so my thumb probably didn't get 'trained'.

They're a glass surface? I don't think I've ever noticed that. Again, I don't use the gestures. My HP Envy has pretty similar gestures and I never use them but the two finger scroll. So yeah I'd probably just use a mouse with it.

I've come to a decision...I will get a Mac but not an iMac.

I just got my first paycheck and I'm very happy about it, but it was only $350.

After I read a couple replies (Thank you, Tylers86, post is HERE) I've made the decision to not buy a Mac for video editing stuff because of the software he told me about. It'd be cheaper to go that way and I wouldn't end up buying a Mac that would probably just sit on my desk collecting dust 95% of the time. I will just buy the Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe After Effects for my HP Envy and do my editing there.

I will probably just buy a MacBook Air for regular, quick Internet usage (and GarageBand+iMovie) as they have better battery life than my HP Envy and they're quieter. Plus I'm cheap and I don't want to take millenniums to save for a good and powerful iMac or MacBook Pro.

To me it sounds like the iMac is better for you as long as you keep the HP:

You dont like the battery life on the MBP
You dont like the price of the MBP
You dont think you would use it as much as the HP
You dont like the portability issue of the iMac but you will have the HP

If you dont want to keep the HP:

Get the MacBook Pro and a desktop PC
You could save money going that route.

Note, I dont ever have battery life issues keeping my MacBook Pro plugged in all the time. ( I use it with two monitors and the bluettoth keyboard, USB mouse) It is very nice as a desktop and a laptop!

You don't need a mac if its for the software... you can find all software on a mac for free on ubuntu. So I suggest ubuntu. But you will likely go with an apple product because of the build quality and use of non-plastics.

I have the MacBook Air and run Ubuntu, Windows, and OSX on it.

Hello all. First post.

I am in the market for a Macbook Pro Retina. I've been surviving on a terribly defunct laptop, and it is time to upgrade.

I am a student and would like to buy the "Master" Adobe suite - including After Effects, which I would love to learn to use.

I'm wondering which of the new Haswell MBPs would run After Effects CS6 (and run it well). I know the premium 15" MBP with the NVIDIA would suit me.

As a financially-concerned student, however, I would love to hear that a 13" MPB with a 2.6i5 or 2.8i7 and 16GB RAM would run After Effects. Is it possible with just a dual core? and with no discrete graphics card? I don't do any gaming.

Forgive me if it's a stupid question. I'm new to After Effects and I can't find an answer anywhere.

It will run it perfectly fine.
