To buy or not to buy Macbook Pro?

Lets say an individual owns a 15in, i5 (2.4ghz) or i7 (2.66). Would you say that the new cycle (assuming it'll have Sandy Bridge etc..) will be worth it enough to sell these the current i5 or i7 to get these newer models specs when they come out? Or there really won't be to much of a difference at all?

That really doesn't depend on what you have but on what you need to do that the current system doesn't do. A much more powerful car with much better great gas mileage doesn't give you any benefit if all you do is drive to the corner store.
