Sorry about the title and question, I know it is probably answered many times, but times change and as each day passes, the answers may change slightly.

My situation:
- Verizon contract ends in one month
- 16GB of storage needed, unless 32GB can be bought at same price
- Unsure of whether to wait 6 months (and resist the very high urge to buy an iphone) or stick with a crappy cell phone that may not make it until then

Your opinions?
-Do you expect the next hardware upgrade to be significant? Would it make me highly regret not waiting until the summer months?
-If you were in my situation would you buy one?
-Will the 3G be supported and continue to have software updates and do similar things as future iphones for 2 years?

thank you!

I'm pretty much in the same situation as you. My contract with Verizon ended last month. I'm waiting to see if they come out with anything next month. I tried the Storm but was very disappointed... Anyways, we have 3G around here so that will make the iPhone experience more pleasant...

haha Im on the same boat as well. My mom needs a cellphone and I want the iphone. My currect cellphone is $28 a month after tax.

I planned on giving my sprint account to my mom and picking up the iphone.

Now all this talk about apple releasing a 32gb iphone, I am gonna wait till Febuary to see if any new news is confirmrmed for the new iphone.

I would at least wait till MWSF 09 and see if there is a storage bump. I would imagine the price would be 399 for a 32g.

Sweet! Gonna hit up the casino and win some extra cash and wait and see if they are going to release a newer iphone:D

Oh chit! I forgot that I already bought the Griffin iClear case for the iphone 3g. The funny part is i havent even bought the iphone 3g yet lol. I hope the new iphone is the same Dimensions as the iphone 3g.:D

Hehe, if your like some people I know you won't be worried that you bought "a" case (as in single). I know folks who buy a case a month! :D

Not that there is anything wrong with that, sometimes its just hard to find that perfect fit.

So I believe I've made my story clear to some folks here so ill keep this somewhat brief.

I am in the same position as those above. My T-Mobile contract ends in 6 days. I have been after this thing for nearly 2 years now!

Some call me crazy, some ask why, why do you have over 2500 post over at everythingicafe.com and you do not even posess an iphone?!

Fanboy? Maybe. Wannabee Fanboy? Most Certainly.

So it has come to this. I'm either getting this iphone in January or I may do something insane and wait until summer!

I've waited this long. I've nearly maxed out my self control. I've had money in my pocket and been tempted to unlock but I digress!

This guy right here! This guy sitting right here on this very couch tappin away at this sidekick keypad (hand me down, long story, don't ask)! He will have an iphone in the forthcoming year of 200 and 9! Yes Sir He Will!!!

The End.

*bow*

If you are going to wait 6 months for a new version, you might always be waiting, as it seems that the life span of a new product is about 6-12 months.

hold out as long as you can and then take the dive and go out and buy it and never look back

Plus you might be able to get it at Walmart for free lol j/k

I know, I know, I've heard this one a dozen times or more now. :p

I've made up my mind and it's either January or WWDC. That's my breaking point. Period.

1) Significant at MWSF? No, at most a upgrade in storage to 32GB or more colors. At June, July period? Yes, something that really adds to the iPhone name.
2) I would wait at least til Macworld, and then judge it from there.
3) I can't imagine Apple will not support firmware updates on the 3G all the way up to 2 years from the last day they sell it. My thought process goes as such: If they sell someone one on the last day, how is it fair that in that person's two year contract they will have an out of date iPhone or have to pay for something that was considered part of the purchase.

Hope that helps
Luke

The only reason I personally feel there wont be anything new released is the absolute quietness from all of the rumor sites. So, I doubt anything drastic will be debuted in January, but we shall see, I guess!

So, I am looking at getting the iPhone as well, but don't "need" this very moment. I am new to this game of wait for the next announcement game.
If Apple makes an announcement for a 32gb phone at Macworld, then I am wondering what people thoughts are for when someone can be holding one in their hands.
Also, what has been the typical "grace" period for getting a refund for buying before a new product release? One month is what I am remembering for the last iPhone upgrade. Right?

Cheers,
Mike

It's usually 14 days you can return and get a 10% restocking fee, but I don't see this happening if they drop the prices. If they announced a 32GB at Macworld, I would expect it within less than a week to be available in stores. They have no reason to wait.

We are still....23 days from the keynote... things happen fast, and it would easy for apple to hide development if the new AppleTV looked pretty much the same as past ones or slightly different. Plus, the development team is probably trying to really keep it hush hush. Lately, announcements have been spoiled far too early (see Unibody Macbooks, new Nanos). I would imagine Steve is getting really pissed about this and trying to lock things down, especially if he's got something really awesome up his sleeve/pocket, maybe the mini/aTV combo? We'll see.

I just can't see MWSF '09 being a nothing big event. There is no way Steve will pass up on the momentum he has built up. Something big will happen there, take my word on that.

Damn so if they announce the new iphone in January, it still wont be out till June?

Why would they announce a phone in January, then release it in July? What do you think would happen to the sales of the Iphone 3G? They won't announce a new Iphone, or a storage bump, unless it is available, the same or next day. They would be losing sales announcing something that is not available right away

Just making sure because i planned on buying the iphone 3g

You can always wait around for the next big thing and never get to enjoy a wonderful device. This is the double-edge sword of technology.

I just wanna get a phone that has features and less flaws. i am hoping that MMS comes out as an app. in 09' so I can have that. I want the iphone 3g to have all the features the Blackberry has.

I love Apple and the only thing that is keeping me is, the Blackberry Storm is CDMA and they dont offer the storm in White.:D
