Hi,

Got my iPhone XS Max today which was a lovely surprise as I wasnt expecting it till Monday!

I love the glass back and just the way it feels without a case. I have purchased a case a few days ago so I had one when the phone arrived.

I have always used a case with my phone, however I did stop using screen protectors about 3 or 4 years ago. Are many people out there using cases or not? What do you guys do?

Cheers!

When I had an X for a month I found it more slippery than a bar of soap. It went flying out of my hands a lot, fortunately landing only in soft surfaces since I only used it without a case in the rooms with carpet or where I was going to be sitting for awhile on the sofa. And only occasionally did I do this because taking off and putting on cases a lot can scuff the phone, too.

I needed a case. I am outdoors a lot.

I also always use a display protector on phones with the flat displays that accomodate them. They’ve saved my displays twice now in the last year alone. I used to never drop phones but I have been having a clumsy year. I had used an iCarez one on the X that I could barely tell was there. I didn’t see it available this time but when I find it I’m going to order it.

Oh goodness I almost forgot: Congratulations! I hope you enjoy your new phone. I’m glad you got the nice surprise of an early arrival.

The cases I always get have kickstands to support vertical and horizontal orientations. I'm trying a clear one this year with a silver max.

I use a case and tempered glass screen protector on my X. Even though I have AppleCare through T-Mobile, I don’t want to pay to get my screen fixed if it cracks because I didn’t have a case or screen protector.

I’m not necessarily a fan of the kick stand, but I love thin clear cases that don’t add much bulk and allow you to still enjoy the design of the phone.

I've been using the Apple leather cases since they became available, but won't on the Xs. Instead, I am getting some RhinoShield skins and eGrips to see which works best. They only cover part of the back but provide lots of grip in your hand and on surfaces like the console in your car. The RhinoShield is similar to the protective film some people have put on their car and it's clear and very thin. The eGrips have a bit more thickness and some texture and are available with a clear, non-colored option.

And this is only for the back- I never put anything on the screen and have never had a single scratch in all the iPhones or other mobiles I've used.

In either case, I want to feel the edges of the Xs as opposed to a case and the skins should fix that slippery issue of the glass back.

I use a case because I'm a klutz. I've dropped my 8+ more times than I care to admit. I don't do screen protectors though. I remember using them in the early days when they KILLED the sensitivity of the screen and just prefer the screen nekkid.

I always buy the wireless chargers which have the phone standing up instead of laying down. Its working cool with face ID as its pointing at me so unlocks and shows notifications. (I hide notification content usually).

I think the feedback is to use a case, I would be upset if I marked it.

I find they don’t work on curved displays like the Samsung phones have. For my S9+ I use a folio case manufactured by Samsung that fits the phone beautifully and looks like an extension of the phone itself. It color matches my phone, too.

For the iPhone and my little Pixel 2 I have had good luck with the full display protectors by SuperShieldz. I don’t use the case friendly ones because they don’t go edge to edge. Full screen works fine with my cases. I haven’t noticed any loss of sensitivy with this particular brand. But yes, some brands out there are thick and awful.

One drawback with some display protectors is that pocket lint can accumulate on the edges sometimes. I take my display protectors off every few months or so to make sure no grit got stuck anywhere and to clean the real display and make sure everything looks okay.

They’ve made the displays less prone to shattering but that usually means the introduction of elements that make the glass softer and easier to scratch. That’s another incentive for me to go with the display protectors.

It’s always a tossup whether or not one of my phones ends up traded in or given to a family member. Either way, I like to turn over a phone with a nice display, especially to a family member. I always appreciate that tech hand me downs from my husband look so nice and new. They’re so nice they suffice as presents. I don’t feel like I’m getting a castoff.

Why put protection on a $1300 device, that just sounds ludicrous...:D;)

Never. I can’t stand cases or screen protectors.

Just get AppleCare if you’re worried about it. Then use the phone the way it was built to be used, in all of its sleek and beautiful glory.

I'd love to do that but carrying my phone naked would stress the sh*t out of me. So for my own (psychological) sake, I put a (nut)case on my phone. :)

Funny thing, most people around me carry their iPhones in cases - the newer the iPhone, the higher the chance it will be wearing a case, sleeve or pouch. At work, all iPhone X's I come across are wearing some kind of protection.

I know, I know!! lol but one of the reasons I feel its that price is because its such a beautiful design. I am deffo putting a case on it based on what people have said here. Just feels slightly bad that its taking away some of that slick design and hiding the glass back.

Speaking of stressing out... I never do, but everyone else does. It’s always funny when I hand my phone to somebody, like to show them something, or have them take a picture, or whatever else. They freak out like it’s some precious heirloom that they need to be super extra careful with. Or people will comment that I’m crazy for not using a case. Gotta “protect” it! I’m like... it’s just a phone. It’ll be okay, lol. If it breaks, I’ll just get it fixed or replaced. Not a big deal. I’ve dropped it numerous times and it’s still just fine.

Looks good, do you have a link to it?

I love clear cases but get annoyed when dust and debris get stuck inside between the case and phone. Is it a matter of just removing the case cleaning it regularly to keep it looking good?

My 2 cents, get the case unless you have Apple Care plus. I have carried my 8+ for a year with no case. Made it about 11.5 months before it fell out of my pocket (swimsuit, was in the Bahamas) and the back glass cracked. Cost me $100 for a new one that I will be upgrading today when my XS gets here. I will be casing the XS.

For the first time in my life I will get a case. It feels so slippery with its glass back. I already see the 1.249€ burning I mean shattering on the ground
Not to me. The glass back and stainless steel sides are definitely grippier then the previous aluminum bodies.

I got two cases and the first one was a transparent one but it made the phone feel bulky. The other was a Spigen thin fit and that made a world of difference. When I had my iPhone X, I used a sleeve and that meant it was protected when i wasnt using it but when I wanted to use it, i could see the phone in all its glory.

Even though it doesn't have any reviews, I was pretty confident in buying it as their cases for the X are pretty highly rated https://www.amazon.com/ESR-Kickstan...-3&keywords=esr+iphone+x+case+clear+kickstand

I need minimal protection because I don't like placing a glass phone on the ground. I use the really thin cases from Caudabe and Totallee.
