Case or no Case on the new iPhone?

Depends on the individual, I hardly ever dropped any iPhone I have owned. Most drops are from people trying to do multiple things at a time. When I am using my iPhone that is exactly what I am doing, just using my iPhone.

Sounds like me but there was the one time I was talking on my 4? and it fell face first from ear height on concrete. Till this day I don’t know how it didn’t get a scratch or crack.

Just saying even for careful people who generally don’t break things. All it takes is a sec.

Absolutely and exactly why I’ve dropped every phone I’ve had at least once. Stuff like putting it in my pocket as I’m loading shopping in the car.
I dropped my 6+ numerous times onto concrete, gravel, etc and even had it slip under my foot so I skated on it!
It looked a bit beat up, but you’d never have thought it’d had been through what it had.

Thing thing is beautiful without a case... I have speck grip case that I put on it. I actually don't mind it... Even though I prefer the Apple leather or silicone case, the speck one is pretty attractive and since I've had speck before, it's a great brand.

Only thing is, I am used to going case less on my iPhones. My 7 only had a case for a breif period of time before I ditched it. My 6s Plus had a case but I hated how bulky they were. My 6 had a case but I eventually ditched that too and my 4s and 5s never had cases.

The price tag is really the only thing holding me back. If it was a $750 phone, id probably without a doubt go classless. But with me spending nearly $1500 on it, I think even the basic speck case or apple case would do.

So... What do you guys think? Are you going caseless or are you going to protect the phone?
I'm going careless on my XS MAX (once I make the purchase). But, I do want to get a tempered glass screen protector. I just don't know what to look for.Any suggestions? Matte v. shiny v. clear.

$1300... I’m definitely casing it. I’m even using a screen protector on this which I never usually do. I’m making sure this phone lasts a long, long time.

No one drops a phone on purpose, accidents happen.
These things are beautiful but expensive.

As much as using it naked appeals, just imagine how you'd feel with even a smal dent/chip/scuff.
If that thought bothers you.......you know what to do.

I’ve dropped many iPhones and iPods over the years. I’ve only had one screen break.

Naked, baby. Buck naked!!

That's great if you aren't bothered about scuffs or dings. You aren't going to drop an X/XS/XS Max and pick it up still looking pristine.

If you're good with that risk then you'll no doubt live a more contented life. The rest of us who's hearts sink when we notice a new scratch or mark on our pricey gadgets will try to avoid it happening with a case and screen protector.

Too expensive and too much time and hassle to do Applecare. I’d prefer to take it in for really serious problems. Case and screen protector aren’t expensive or difficult.

Does Applecare+ cover superficial damage?
You only get 2 swaps with apple care...whether it’s for the glass screen or the whole dang thing...two.

I tend to carry mines naked because I don’t like the added breadth a case brings.

I did play around with native union’s air or clic...the super thin case. And after awhile, I just find myself not caring.

The phone is on AppleCare plus. I’m using it for the phone and more for function than show. So if it gets a dent or scratch—I’m okay with it. Once the screen breaks I’m not even in a hurry to replace it, but eventually I’ll get around to swapping the whole thing because when I turn it in for upgrade I’ll need to pay anyways.

Not that anyone would care but when I had one of those thin cases, nothing happened when I dropped it. But when I had an expensive $80 case, marble from native union...because I dropped it in the wrong way I suppose? The whole screen shattered.

I’ve also had my phone in a wrist purse and I tripped/fell..the phone inside the wristlet (with nothing else but cc) shattered.

Essentially, idgaf anymore. Worrying more about the phone keeps me from enjoying it.

Exactly.

There's the lucky people who DGAF......and the rest of us who appreciate the beauty but can't stand the thought of any damage.

Yep, a case doesn't guarantee against damage, but it's certainly a lot less likely.

Used my X for 12 months entirely naked. Can’t see a scratch on it.

I used my X without a case for the last 9 month. You can definitely notice scuffs on the rear glass for putting the phone down on surfaces but its not horrible. I’m gonna use my XS Max without a case as well. I will grab a 3D tempered glass screen protector but other than that its naked.

I don’t mind scratches and dents, but on the space grey it’s the chips to the metal that show the bare steel underneath. Like I say, mine has a tiny one already.
Sort of wish I’d gone for the silver to avoid that, but to be honest I just think I’m a case person now. Much busier lifestyle than years ago, so drops are much more likely.

The glass backed phones are really slippery though - kind of ok in the hand (unless you have very dry hands), but they slip out of pockets really easily - getting out of my car I could imagine it coming out of my pocket on its own

Agreed. My X and my XS Max slide around in my pockets but theyre always on my mind going in and out of my car. Being constantly away of your phone and nusttbeijg careful with it you should be okay. I never dropped my X without a case and I had it naked for probably 9-10 months straight.

If you plan to keep this phone for a few years as most of us do these day... by all means put it in a case. I usually always start out with an Apple case and use it for awhile, but will eventually settle on one I like better. I did the Speck Grip Case on the iPhone 8 + (work). It's held up well and really good protection, but doesn't add tons of bulk. These phone are big enough so I won't do those big bulky super protective cases...

if i was a betting man over most are on the iUP so why so anal about the look of the phone without a case over time most will be trading it in next year as long as the screen and the back aren’t cracked all is good AC gives you piece of mind if the worst happens
