WiFi calling works wonderfully. You can get a "free" WiFi or LTE CellSpot for your home. If you travel internationally, it saves a lot.

Wi-fi calling is an underrated feature for those of us who actually use it.

They also have T-Mobile Tuesdays where you can get discounts and free things.

Not sure if t-mobile is the motivation for providing this type of service but I see now that att is also doing Tuesday promotions for movie tickets. Um also bringing back Unlimited data plans.

I use WiFi calling as much as possible. At the office where LTE for all the carriers (except for Verizon) is abysmal, I usually just turn Airplane mode on w/ WiFi and save battery life.

TMO Tuesdays had to have been the influence for AT&T doings promos. They sure as hell didn't care about giving customers anything when I was with them for over a decade. That MLBTV promo with TMO is worth $113 alone and then add in all the other discounts. I don't see AT&T doing that. They had to be forced into doing anything for their customers.

There are many many threads on this same topic. The best answer is always the same. Get a pre-paid sim and test it out in the areas you frequent. It's great for some, not for others. Better in big cities. WiFi calling works wonderfully. You can get a "free" WiFi or LTE CellSpot for your home. If you travel internationally, it saves a lot. T-Mobile has improved significantly in the past 3-5 years. Anyone who had it more than 2 years ago and says coverage is bad lives in a different coverage time. My service on TMO is better than it was on AT&T when I left 3 years ago and continues to improve.

They also have T-Mobile Tuesdays where you can get discounts and free things. I get weekly Lyft discounts, free magazine subscriptions, Fandango movie rentals, and I believe they are giving away MLBTV to customers again this year. They've been doing it for a couple of years. They were the first to have free 4g/LTE roaming in Canada & Mexico. Free international roaming speeds are 2G/3G but works well enough in all the places I've traveled (All over UK, Ireland, Netherlands, Belgium, France, Spain, Norway, Philippines, Czech Republic). WiFi is everywhere in all of these places also so WiFi calling is awesome and you're never in 2G/3G land for too long. You can always get a call or text. Good enough for Social Media or pulling up maps. Last summer they had free 4G/LTE international roaming for the month of July, which was perfect timing on a 3 week trip I was on.

But if service doesn't work for you in the places you need, none of the above matters. So testing it is the best advice.

Not to forget if they used an older phone it would not have supported Band 12 700mhz which makes a huge difference.

Only if the city they are in has Band 12 activated. And they're likely to upgrade the phone soon which would have it. I found Band 12 to have some but not phenomenal boost to my service in NYC, but it was pretty good here to begin with. It's just better building penetration but WiFi calling takes care of that anyway.

Yes building penetration is a big deal. We have it in my area which is the Cleveland Pittsburgh market. I don't ever use wifi calling with unlimited data I try not to turn on wifi. That said it's nice to have if I ever need it. I do still have the T-Mobile wifi router because it's really nice and it was free. I have also enjoyed T-Mobile Tuesday and just got a free pizza last week. I really like T-Mobile and have had zero signal or dropped call issues since switching from Verizon a couple years ago.

This is the best I've done. I'm sure Verizon can hit speeds like this as well I just haven't seen it.

I got 171 MBPS down this morning during rush hour on an iPhone 6s plus. T-mobile has been blazing fast and pretty good, I haven't noticed any big differences compared to att.

I dumped att last month for tmobile and couldn't be happier, my lte speeds are faster and they gave me 300 to switch two lines. My bill is now 80 bucks for two unlimited lines since they gave me an extra 20% at store. I did have to pay 20 for each SIM card but so far I'm loving t-mobile. I was paying the same price for two phones and sharing 3gb with att. What a rip off compared to T-Mobile

It is pretty pathetic that for years and years verizon and att tried to get people off the UDP plans, saying that the bandwidth was limited and their networks were strained. And yet, it took tmobiles aggressive marketing and prices with those two to finally bring the unlimited data plans back. A little too late Verizon and att, a little too late.

Probably both...TMobile got the ball rolling w/very aggressive unlimited data plans and ATT and Verizon had to respond (more than a year later) or else face continued retention loss.

Of course, most of the carriers are building out LTE coverage throughout, so they can support the greater loads on their networks too.

I love T-Mobile for their aggressive marketing campaigns. They are the carrier that forced the others into bringing back unlimited and offering incentives to customers.

But too late for VZ and ATT? I don't think so. There is plenty of competition for the big 3 to survive.

T-Mobile HAD to act aggressively to obtain more customer base. They had to do something to get more customers and prove their network is now built up and competitive with the other two. The company that is behind always must do something to stand out. TMO succeeded. People have taken notice. At this point it's an almost even playing field with one or more carriers working better depending on area of the country. And there is plenty of room for all three. The continued competition is good for the consumer.

I love Verizon's commercial for unlimited data 45$ a month then the fine print says plus taxes and fees LOL.

I agree although att's latest offering to compete with tmobile's pricing is a $60 unlimited plan but only at 3mpbs max speed lol. Come on man.

I fully expect another version of their unlimited plans to be announced in the near future.
