ProRes forcing you into 256GB+ storage?

  • Yes. I want every feature... no compromises.

  • No. I was already needing more than the base 128GB. ProRes made no impact on my desicion.

  • No. I will still get 128GB. I don't need ProRes.

  • I always max out the storage. ProRes or not.

Apple should have never put people into this position in the first place, by not making 256 GB as the base storage for the Pro models.
That would be a LOT of magin they would be unnecessarily giving away. In the last round with the 12, a large part of the mergin per unit was the upgrade from base storage to the next higher storage amount. The market would take them down 3-5% if they did that, which is oh about 100 Billion in market cap.

Sure, it would be great for the consumer, but really bad for increasing or maintaining margins and the company would suffer. As well, I doubt they could justify it with much increase in overall sales since most android companies already GIVE higher storage and I doubt that is the real differentiator from a consumer purchase decision.

I like to keep my iPhone for several years at minimum and not have to worry about running out of storage so I went with the 256 GB to future proof. Didn't even think of ProRes when I did it, and TBH shooting in a RAW format using a phone camera seems a little gimmicky but it's nice to have it as an option.

I stuck with 128gb. Day one I would have taken some 80gb videos and shown all my friends and family and we'd all be amazed, then I'd likely never use it again.
