Sure, some releases are bigger than others. It's all in the ebb and flow of technology updates. But should Apple just not release a device if there are no significant technology increases ready? And why get so angry when they do and the improvement isn't a huge jump? You don't have to buy. Nobody is forcing anything on you.
If I was Apple, I would have waited a few months to release the iPhone that is about to be released instead of the 4S. I've seen very little to no improvement in day to day functionality from the improved specs (other than the camera) between the 4S and 4. Siri could have very well just have been a software update to the 4 but Apple knew they needed some "killer" new feature for people to justify buying the 4S over the 4. Once again Apple marketing at its best.
Well Apple does that already with the 'minor' updated phones (3GS, 4S, etc.)
Plus I have a two year contract so I see no reasons to spend money to buy a phone every year.
What if the current model wasn't on track to be ready in a few months. What about the fact that the longer they wait, the more sales they lose? There are probably a million factors that go into these decisions that you and I will never know. For us to question them w/o all the necessary data is kind of silly.
Personally, I sold my 4 for $420 and paid $299+tax for the 4s. So I got the incremental upgrade you complain about and made money (of course I extended my agreement, but its not like I wouldn't have service anyway). Did you lose money by upgrading?
And sure, it's all marketing. Isn't everything?
While I agree that we don't have all the facts, surely you don't believe that Apple couldn't have included more in the 4S. That is the textbook definition of just getting by. I honestly would have rather had Apple release a software update for Siri and the antennae fix and brand it as an improved iPhone 4 than call it a completely new phone.
As for upgrading, no I wasn't willing to waste any money or time to upgrade just for Siri.
Great list, I fixed it though.
Using a phone without retina just doesn't cut it at this point.
I'm in awe of this breathtaking new iPhone 5. Notice how different it is. How fresh, new, and unlike anything we've see before.
You've got to admire the work of J. Ive... not everyone could make a rectangle look so stunning. It makes my _OLD_ iPhone 4S, look positively outdated.

As if those sales don't count? Leaving out those models, the 4s has still sold far more than any single model by any other manufacturer.
because no other manufacturer releases only 1 phone model a year. Like comparing apples to oranges.
What more would they include? Given Apple's nature to wait on technologies to improve, there isn't a lot more for them to add. Unless you secretly work for Apple and know about some super-secret tech they've completed and decided not to let us have so they can be greedy and launch it on us later.
No, what's happening here is a combination of things. Some people are just upset because they want new aesthetics every time. Get over it, not practical and not sustainable. Some want a bigger screen. I can understand their desire, but to say Apple doesn't innovate because they didn't get the screen they want is an illogical argument because screen size is not innovation. Some want features they've seen on other devices. Unless Apple wants the tables turned on them in court, they can only get away with a little of this at a time. Some want NFC and if Jim Dalrymple is to be believed, we aren't getting it. I doubt Apple is leaving out just to hold out on us.
What I've seen from Apple consistently is first and foremost they stick to having a narrow focus and doing what they do well as best three can. Second, they upgrade the parts (CPU, memory, etc) every time. And when they feel strongly about a particular function/feature, they go all out. Retina display, Siri, etc. unfortunately Siri was probably rushed to market....although I use and appreciate it.
But unless you can point out some outstanding feature or function that Apple has left out and can provide proof of why it was left out, you're all just making assumptions and whining about things you probably don't have all the proper information on.
For me, that feature is a notification LED. Can't imagine why they won't include one. Probably something in their design culture.
I'm sorry but I just don't see why Apple couldn't have released the form factor that will most likely be the next iPhone last year. Stretching the screen doesn't require any new technology that wasn't available last year. And for the LED notification light, great call. I miss that the most from my Galaxy Nexus.
I don't see it as an upgrade, more of a design theory change.
Personally I see a bigger screen as an upgrade (but not these huge 5.3 in screens. At that point its almost hindering). However, fair enough and to each his own.
I don't see it as an upgrade, more of a design theory change.
a bit misleading. Take out the free 3GS and $50 iphone 4 sales, and the numbers aren't that staggering.

Sarcasm? What's that ?You're attempt (yes attempt) at sarcasm isn't up to snuff. You show one side of a device that is completely redesigned and comment how it looks the same. How about you show picutes of the top, bottom, back, THEN you would have a true comparison. So for you sarcasm = FAIL
I don't.Anyone got any other pics of lines for other phones?
