Normally I'd agree, but there's three reasons why Im upgrading: The GPS on the Verizon iPhone is a pile of ass, and I won't have to put up with the fragmentation of iOS updates (such as STILL being stuck at iOS 4.2 while everyone else is on 4.3) Well, Im assuming that crap will stop now that we'll have the same phone on all carriers, but who knows.

The camera upgrade is a biggie too, I'm an iPhoneographer and proud of it. :D
Silly - with IOS5 the fragmentation is gone. And the GPS on the 4s is likely the exact same chip that's in the VZW iPhone 4.

I just went into my Verizon store and pre-ordered mine.
Guaranteed delivery OCT 14th.
Do it!

What time do you think it will be too late to pre-order? I live in a small town so I hope if it's too late to pre-order I can just wait in line and get it on launch day.

What!? My Verizon iPhone GPS works perfectly. And I'm on iOS 5...runs perfectly. Fragmentation, really? lol

I'm thinking that poster might be referring to the fact that AT&T has a higher version of iOS 4.0 which enabled Airplay, yet Verizon does not have the functionality yet. However you make a good point which is the iPhone 4 will be upgradeable to iOS 5 which will put us all on the same playing field regardless of whether you move to the 4S.

As far as GPS, not sure if there's an issue or not but I have noticed my Garmin GPS program has some issues with keeping me in the place where I am. But that could be Garmin's fault.

Where's the assurance that iOS5 5.x updates will be pushed out on the same schedule so older Verizon iPhones will continue to benefit at the same time other iPhones do? Because I can see where they could lag once again in pushing updates to the old Verizon iPhone due to the differences in hardware while others enjoy the latest and greatest iOS5.X.X versions.

As for the GPS, search the threads and you'll see there were numerous issues with the Verizon model, enough to force me to upgrade. Anyone who claims otherwise must not use the road navigation apps as often as I do.

I just pre-ordered on VZW online because I had $50 VZW credit on my account for upgrading. Also shipped it home to Oregon so no sales tax, victory! So excited, been going back and forth between by my BB 9650 and OG droid the last two years. Can't wait for my first iPhone!
