I know people get upset with each other in arguments. Heck, I've been reprimanded myself, but @Senzosan79 takes things to a whole new level in this delightfully eloquent message I received from them this morning...

The response was from the fact that I revealed that I am in fact a Colombian (I hold dual nationality), and I suggested instead of the term third world country, we use "developing nation" as the former was quite offensive and outdated.

I hope the appropriate actions are taken.

I understand you may not be able to nor want to respond to my question, but will that particular user be banned or just temporarily suspended? I would hope the former rather than the latter for that absolutely disgusting behaviour?
I'm sorry, but our privacy policy does not allow public disclosure of moderation actions like this.

FWIW - I am still seeing the offensive post - it is still publicly visible and appears no action has been taken.

No worries, I completely understand. I just noticed his status is suspended but I don’t know if that means permanent ban or just temporarily suspended. But, for what it’s worth, if that is only a temporary ban for what he said then that reflects very very badly on this forum: in my opinion at least.

I can't believe someone would post something like that.....😳
Really out of order.

Maybe their account was compromised....

Considering the fact that administrators and moderators are all volunteers who deal with this sort of thing in their free time and the issue was in effect resolved within working hours today, I disagree that the response was slow.
I have sent reports in from time to time, and while I see that they require some time to get to, I know they are gotten to and checked. Mods, as you stated, have lives and do it from their volunteer work. Always appreciated, and also appreciate the "get back on track" when I tend to veer off course.

As a moderator in another (entirely unrelated) place, I agree.

The biggest difficulty is that we have no schedule. There can be hours with no moderators online. Then all might be available together. Trying to put a schedule in place would be too much of an extra burden.

Sometimes we have dealt with an issue within a single minute of it happening. Other times it can take many hours.

I can second this. I'm a mod elsewhere, and due to time differences the mods aren't necessarily around 24/7. We have few in the States, me and a couple of others are in Europe, but basically no one in the middle or far-East, so that's a whole third of the day not covered, realistically.

Appalling message, agreed.

In fairness to MR, and credit where it is due, the site's staff tend to be pretty prompt when acting on such reports.

Coming from a country which was alluded in the post, I don't mind the insult as much. I do mind the unprovoked attack as it's human decency to show respect by not attacking others.

If you are pondering why I care not for such a vain insult; if I cared, I would further empower the word as it was intended.

Well, to my mind, the post - viewed, simultaneously, as both an insult and an unprovoked attack - was utterly disgusting, disrespectful, insulting and incredibly offensive. And yes, one should mind such an insult. As one should mind such an unprovoked attack, an attack that was both ugly and vicious.

I'm very pleased to see that it was addressed - reasonably rapidly - by the staff, who rightly recognised that this was entirely unacceptable conduct and behaviour.

My question, and sorry if it's a bit late, but surely MacRumors has paid moderators. The site does appear to be well 'monetised', to have allowed for the volunteer aspect to have relieved of its duties.

Having “been there done that” on another Apple related site, I’d say most of the mods here are volunteers. That’s normally how forums are run. And as big as this forum is, yes it may take a bit after an issue is reported to be dealt with.

I doubt there's much profit made running this site at the end of the day. The domain and traffic does cost a lot of money after all.
