Software enhancements I'd like to see implemented in v2.0:
- Mail/Safari: Saving of a photo or attachment from Mail.app

Last i checked saving pictures from mail and safari were both possible in earlier 2.0 builds.

oh, you were serious?

Deadly.

I assume you missed my next post on the issue as I'm confused as to how you could consider it a joke otherwise. I've quoted it below:

How else are they getting a release out 12-18 months after Leopards release?

Steve Jobs after Leopard said:
I'm quite pleased with the pace of new operating systems every 12 to 18 months for the foreseeable future

(source)

i would like for them to show some 10.6 stuff, but i dont think it'll happen. it'll mostly be about Leopard and iPhone.

is iPhone firmware 2.0 being released at WWDC or are we gonna have to wait a couple more weeks after WWDC?

Then Steve Jobs is effectively breaking a publicly stated goal as it pushes 10.6 to 18-24 months at a minimum from today, which is 24 to 30 months after the release of Leopard.

Don't set yourself up for a disappointment, people - it's highly unlikely that we'll hear about 10.6. The 12-18-month schedule won't be sustained. So Steve will go back on his previous statement - big whoop.

I'd love to be proven wrong. But I'm not going to go expecting it on faith and end up disappointed when it doesn't happen.

The 12-18-month schedule won't be sustained.

Why not? Last time they were delayed by the iPhone and Mac OS X Intel.

Frankly if it isn't sustained they won't get an OS out until Windows 7 is due which given Apple's far superior API would be seriously worrying.

Exactly 7 days, 20 hours, 1 minute, and 12 seconds until the keynote starts.

It all goes down 1PM EST June 9th, 2008.

I'm hoping for an OSX iPhone 2.0 release a few hours after WWDC.

i doubt the iphone 2.0 updates will change the SDK that much, apple has been using the same thing to develop apps since iphone firmware 1.0

also didnt stop apple for leopard updates
apple seeded a test build of 10.5.3 on the 27 may
10.5.3 was made public via software update THE VERY NEXT DAY, 24 hours after the final seed of the beta

So far every beta release of the iPhone OS 2.0 has required a new release of the SDK and changes, some major, to any App written for the SDK to make them work with it. Beta 5, for example, they completely changed how touch-detection works, removed library support for detecting swipes (so developers had to write their own swipe-detection code), and changed very basic OpenGL stuff that *every* OpenGL app uses.

As for Leopard updates, that's not the same thing - one of the two big features of iPhone OS 2.0 is the App Store for third-party apps, but no apps can be released unless developers have the final SDK in advance. The only way it could work would be if Apple decided to just release the newest beta as final.

The bulk of this Keynote is going to be iPhone, v2 software and the App Store. There's no way they'll squeeze some 10.6 demo into the presentation.

ATTN: Mods

Attn MODS, I think it is time to post a counter to MR Homepage for WWDC.

I remember a few years ago about the 12-18 month release cycle, but it being as the OS matures the releases will be LESS frequent. I'd like to hear a mention of 10.6 next week but as for it's release, I'd see it being fully demoed in January 2009, then it being released between June 2009 and November 2009. I mean really. We JUST got Leopard.

I actually think there is a small chance for a preview of 10.6.

If anything, I expect 10.6 to include significant touch interactivity... especially if Apple is serious about releasing a slightly-bigger-than-iphone tablet thingy that has recently been rumored about again (or any other machine whose design lends itself to touch interactivity...)

Though MS showed off some touch goods (weak touch goods at that) at D6, I don't think Apple will take this as pressure to show off their touch os any sooner than they plan to. It seems that they only show things when they're good and ready.

But, one has to wonder.. what if they were that much closer to being "good and ready" (this year) than any of us anticipated?

Cheers,

DCBass

Don't believe WWDC is going to happen, not until someone posts some shaky photo's of covered banners and an elevator shot with a blurry photoshopped tablet.

Come on there's gotta be some activity around Moscone, is there anyone local who can swing by and Macpaparazzi what's going on?

M. :D

You obviously missed the elevator picture with the new iPhone. It happened during the commerical shoot at the 5th Ave store last week.

Also, this picture was crystal clear, there have been advancements on the elevator shots believe it or not. The banners are still to been seen.

BANNERS... The fun of intense analysis of absent hidden meanings. I cant wait...

10.6 is inevitable surely, two bridges, two operating systems, they wouldnt linger on leopard, this is apple and they look to the future.. and 10.6 better have touchscreen stuff like someone suggested.

When can we see some banners????

If the 3G model is "available now" then so will the 2.0 firmware. It's possible that the firmware will be available before the 3G model, but it cannot be the other way around.

I suspect that both will be available immediately after Jobs' keynote. We'll know better closer to the time if Apple stores are closing in preparation of the iPhone launch. It's also possible that he'll debut the stuff, and tell us it'll be available on iDay2, sometime in late June as previously indicated.

I plan to upgrade, but not straight away. So, while I'm anxious to find out what's coming, I'm not too worried about the release date. Of course, as soon as I see what the 3G can do, I'm sure I'll want one straight away...

Not ture on the 2.0 stuff. They could launch a 1.1.5 that only adds support for Hardware.

Rocket fuel for your apps, this must be talking about a new iPhone app that supports a rocket pack that connects via the multi connect port on the iPhone.
