What will the 30th-anniversary iPhone look like? Well, the "i" in iPhone actually means implanted. Ol'Steve was thinking ahead!

I remember there was a little iPhone cut out you could print and make into a 3d version. I did that immediately and hung it up in my workspace in anticipation of the new phone. I don't think I've ever been so excited for a new piece of technology as I was after this phone was unveiled

I remember when it came out (I still have it!) and thought that is was so much larger than what I was used too (Razer) yes now when I look at it, I can't imagine wanting a screen so small. And when the others later cam out with "Phrablets" I thought those were so large… and yet again… now that I have the Pro Max I love the size. It's perfect.

It's so tiny!!! I even owned one, and still don't remember it being that small. Pro Max me baby!

"Since 2007, Apple has led mobile phone design, dictating the features and capabilities that are must-haves for smartphones and inspiring other manufacturers to follow in its footsteps."

That's ridiculous. Apple has not led in phone design for a long time and is still playing catch up.

The integration within the Apple ecosystem is absolutely true - no ecosystem is better integrated and it's one of the key reasons I have an iPhone and MacBook Pro. But to suggest the iPhone has been the first to include new design features is silly.

I remember watching the original unveiling during CES 2007 and thinking that Apple had single handedly made everything on that show floor obsolete and I was right.

The opening paragraph above doesn't do it justice. It had a MASSIVE 3.5" screen, a lightning quick Samsung processor and a screen technology so advanced it bordered on magic.

Yes it was EDGE and only had a 2mpx camera but it made up for it with everything else. I got mine in the UK on PAYG for £300. I had a tariff where I paid £15 a month for UNLIMITED DATA!

And it was great value for money too! Apple have done this kind of inverted flip where their old products read like wish lists for modern consumers. Eg my 2006 MacBook had normal USB, FireWire, a headphone socket and a user-upgradeable RAM, HDD and Battery. In 2019 that was a hope for the new computers!

The iPhone came with a charger, some headphones and a docking cradle as well as an adaptor to let you play and charge it though the Bose Sounddock in your kitchen.

Wonderful device.

I wish I had kept my OG iPhone. It would no longer function on any cellular network today but man it would be cool just to take a look. I have my 4s still but it's not quite the same. Still crazy to see how small those phones were compared to what we have now.

I hope one day there will be again some phones with the dimensions of these first gen iPhone.

Todays phones are to big. I also liked my nokia 112, that I could fit in my pocket. Yes, it was a "dumb" phone, mind you, but had the option for two SIM-cards. Sadly it died tow years ago.

Your quote included one link to back up the argument of how Apple sets the way. But I took it to mean that I can sit here and think of so many times that iPhone did something first - only to be copied by Samsung and others. Let’s not forget that Samsung lost a $1 bil lawsuit to Apple for patent infringements, where the parallels were clear (in 2012, feels like just yesterday!). And we continue to see it today, from the design of the phones, to not including a headphone jack or charger.

Sure, there are examples here and there where Samsung, LG, Google etc do something first - the rumored iPhone 15 periscope lens comes to mind, where it’s my understanding other phones already have this feature. But just as a generalized overall statement, and following news over the years, it really feels like the competition continues to follow Apple.

Not that "unreal" at the time. There were a number of "internet communicator" devices that came before the iPhone.

The iPhone (iOS) and Google (Android) would end up, at least at this point, dominating the cell phone world, though.
The other internet communicators were absolutely laughable in comparison and not on the same level.

Wow. I was 14. I remember just going and surfing around apple's website for fun and ogling over products I could never have. Watching the keynote.... live? Were they live then? or would we go on here for updates and get to watch afterwards? Haha. But yeah, getting so hype over the keynote. Steve was the shiznizzit.

Joy of Tech comics. Steve's "Reality Distortion Field"! haha.

We were poor growing up so my parents only got me an android back in the day. AT&T only? Too expensive. We had Cingular I think. like myspace was to middle school and everyone switching to Facebook in high school. Had a Moto RAZR in middle school. freshman year got a crappy HTC android. college finally got the iPhone. feels good man. been a fun ride fellas

I remember the first iPhone being mindblowingly awesome. The first one I got was an iPhone 3G, but I traded it for my buddy’s 3GS because he felt like it wasn’t that big of a difference. Heh.

Then I remember jail breaking it so I could record videos!
