has anyone had the yellow screen longer than a month? or has it just been returned for anohter?

I had mine for about 3 weeks, and I used the phone a lot. I even left the screen turned on a blank white pic for extended periods to see if the yellow would clear up, but it didn't.

really? well its not my iphone that has the yellowish tint its just my gf's, she doesnt know about the yellow tint issue, i noticed it only when adjusting her brightness, so im thinking i wont say anything as she is enjoying her 4s, and hey if you dont notice a problem then i guess there is no problem, although my 4s screen is flawless i feel kinda bad...

It's hard to tell if 1) you don't have another to compare it to 2) Your not a freak about details-OCD, etc.

Again, the yellow all over tint will not go away. The BS glue drying is just that, BS.

Your math is wrong. It's no longer day 2.

This is what you said "they refurbish them & send them back to the stores in just one day."

That's what my statement was based on. You are wrong. They can't physically get refurbs back within one day. There were no refurbs for the first 60 days at least.

Hello,
My original Iphone 4s was also much warmer (yellower) than all the display phones, as well as my gf's phone or other people I compared. Since I had some other complaints too I decided to visit a Genius and they had nothing against replacing it for a new unit (they knew the yellow screen problem).

My original phone had serial number DNP..., replacement C39. Both exactly same yellow. After finding out that the new one is the same, I got an appointnemt in an hour and came back to the same apple store to replace again. This time (another Genius) was trying to convince me that it's all relative "some people might say that others are blue, its all within specs if its only visible when compared directly with other units" etc etc. But I insisted on having one more replacement, and it was much better. Still not as 'cold/blue' as the display ones, but way less yellow and brighter at the same brightness level. I would say that maybe even better, because it was neutral - between yellow and blue.

To sum it up, for some reason there is just a lot of variation between screens, if you put 10 units next to each other, each has a bit different colors. Most seem to be warm. This yellow does not fade away, so nobody should count on it. If it really bothers, replace it, if not - leave it ;) There is a high chance you will have your phone replaced anyway for other reasons over the 1 year warranty period...

just a quick update.

i made an appointment at the genius bar for today and when i got there the guy could see the problem and offered to give me a refurb replacement so i said ok. The refurb was also yellow so i asked to look at another one because thats what i was told when i rang up twice before. He said tough luck about the yellow screen and he could only open one for me because they were only allowed to open one per genius bar appointment so i took my phone out and made another appointment and said see you in 10 mins.

The next appointment came and it was still a yellow screen so i didn't take it but as i walked out i seen a guy in the corner of the room sorting out all the pre orders for the idevices that were placed the night before. i told him i tried to order one but they sold out straight away and he said that they always have more inshore than the put up for pre order the night before so he got a brand new one for me (without my receipt because i forgot it) and exchanged it for my old phone.

As we set it up he could see that it was still yellow but clearly not as bad as the one i took back and he said that because it is a new device i have the 14 days to return it again if i am not happy and i can get a brand new one.

I didn't even have to give the old box/charger/headphones back so i now have a spare.

I find it funny about the hundreds of iPhone 4/4S displays across 20 Apple stores Ive been too have absolutely no yellow tint at all. But the ones they sell do.

every one on display in the store was perfect also the 3 people i talked to in the store ( two genius' and one specialist) also had perfect screens.

I rang up the store today and told them about the yellow screen tint and asked if i could return it. The guy said yes and because i am still in my 14 day return policy i can get a brand new boxed one instead of a refurb but because they are still selling really fast i would have to try and order one online the night before at 9pm and if i can't get one i can swap it for a refurb. I tried tonight and got to put one in my basket but as soon as i logged in they went (same happened to my girlfriend as i also got her to try for me)

When i rang the store earlier and asked them about the refurb one the guy said that we do have ones that come in a black box behind the genius bar counter that are normally refurbished ones but because the iPhone 4s is still new they have not actually come from a previous customer and been refurbished. I asked hime where they brand new then and he said no he and he didn't know what they were.

Do any of you guys know what they are supposed to be?
Also when i take it back and received one of the so called refurbished ones, what if the refurb also has a yellow tint? can i ask to look at another and another until i get one with a good screen?

Thanks.

i have sat in this form and listen to people whine about the most petty things, and this is one of them. i Don't give a **** and i doubt anyone else does. good luck, sounds like you are never going to find anything that will please you.

Hey idiot, if you don't like a thread like this common sense would tell you not to click on it and enter.

:)

I noticed that too in the store, very odd. There's definitely a defect in manufacturing at some point down the line.

Why would that be funny? If I was the manager of the store, I would not want a defective phone as my demo units. In fact many years ago when I was a retail store manager, I would RMA any defective unit that was to be our display and put a good one up.

----------

Are there any photos of this yellow tint? I assume a screen shot would not work, it have to be a external photo. My 4s and my wife's 4s screens look great. White backgrounds look white, but hard to tell with out something to compare too.

Why not just live with the yellow tint? Most screens have either a warm or cool feeling to them.

main reason is that i am a professional photographer and i save all my photo's that i take with my camera to my iphone to show clients and when all white looks yellow it doesnt look very good

Exactly. They are not going to put yellow tinted units on displays. They know this is an issue. Don't believe any salesmen or Genius who says' wow, your the first person to mention this'. Keep exchanging it until you get it right.

Also, if you add Applecare you can call in the problem and have then overnight you the new phone at no charge.(without applecare it's $29 for the shipping).

I was bothered by it at first on my phone and hoped it would just burn in and fix itself. No sir. Not happening. But I'm over it now, it's not a big deal anymore to me. My eyes will thank me later, too! Now mine's not YELLOW yellow, but it's certainly warmer and the whites appear to be too warm. But now when I see my friend's 4S I think it looks too cold/blue.

What's crazy is that I compared it to my other friend's 4 and his was even more yellow

iPhone 4S yellow tint disappeared after two months

When I got my Verizon iPhone 4S about two months ago, it had a very strong yellow tint. It was so strong that I definitely wanted to return it. The difference between my "cooler" iPhone 4 was stunning.

After speaking with Apple, I was told to wait a while to see if it cleared up. They said it could have something to do with the manufacturing process and in the way the display and glass is bonded together. After a month it was still yellow albeit a bit better.

However, now two months later, it's all gone. Finally white is white! I'm happy that I was too buys to exchange it earlier so I didn't have to go through the hassle. So if you've got a yellow tinted display, it probably wouldn't hurt to give it a couple of months before bringing it in to Apple. It may clear up by itself, just like mine did.

i really wonder what you people do when confronted with a real problem in life

Well, in today's world, computer problems are real problems. Over the last 30 years, more and more aspects of our lives have been overtaken by computers, for good and for worse. Personally, probably 3/4 of my waking hours are spent with a computer, iPhone or iPad, at least during week days. I work on a computer, my photography involves a computer, my synthesizer and recording hobby is now all on the computer, I stream movies from the computer, my music collection plays from my computer, I make phone calls from the computer, I keep connected with people through email and social networking on the computer, I read my news on the computer etc. etc. I guess in some ways it's pretty sad. But it's a fact nonetheless.

If your found out that your new eyeglasses, contact lenses or even the windshield of your new car had mistakingly been delivered with yellow tinted glass that made everything look unnatural, I'm pretty sure that you too would complain and demand an exchange. :)

Just being curious, why don't you use your iPad to show your clients photos rather than the smaller iPhone screen?

Well th iPhone is a lot more portable than the iPad as I'm sure you have noticed. Also it's a phone so I take it everywhere with me. And if I am out and a friend mentions me to someone I know I have my phone to show them. iPad only goes with me on shoots or if I have already made an appointment with someone

No offence intended to those asking him to put up with it but why the hell should he?

If you buy something that clearly isn't cheap you expect it to be fully meeting your needs and work as designed. A yellow tint like on that YouTube video is unacceptable and makes the screen resolution look bad.

to the op I hope you get it sorted.

Thank you. :D

I say try to use it at least a week before returning it. I had a family member told me that their 4S was yellow compare to their 4. But when i compared them side by side about week or 2 later, the 4S had no yellow tint at all. So thinking it must have cleared up after little bit of use.
