[*]You need to use the bluetooth to pair the TomTom car unit device.

I was hanging out for this car kit but that was my one concern. I have a bluetooth kit which allows me to call people using the touchscreen in my car.
I just want the car kit to call out directions and improve the lag, not become my only bluetooth unit.

So due to this one "feature" that I dont want, no car kit and no tomtom app.

He's got a Sawney flag and he's a Glaswegian, where in the world did you people get Irish from?

For less than half the price of this overpriced junk I got:

A better mount (Kensington Dash)
A better GPS receiver (stronger signal, bluetooth wireless)

and roxyGPS to use it with my iPhone.

And it works just as good, if not better with both TomTom AND Navigon.

You might as well as throw $100 bucks down the toilet. That's pretty much exactly what your doing by buying this.

Hi

Here's the scenario.

You've got your phone docked onto the TomTom car kit unit, using bluetooth. Your driving along and you want to make a phone call. You quit the TomTom (or whatever sat nav application your using) and make the call. When you hit the green 'call button' - it gives you three options; 'TomTom Car Kit', iPhone and something else. So I presume, if you have more bluetooth devices connected - it will give you a further list?

Edit: i'll put up a short video or a picture up in the morning to reflect this.

Strong words coming from the owner of a Dodge Caliber.

Thanks for posting the video. It assures me that this is really NOT the product I'd buy. I need a long arm for the windshield, because my car is a Dodge Caliber, the distance from the windshield glass and the dashboard is huge. If I'd use this, I wouldn't see any street names and ****. Besides, the price is ridiculously pathetic.

The final video on this TomTom Car Kit series is now live:

100% agree with what you said on the review

Its not a bad product, its just expensive ( due to the "all in one nature" + apple tax)

If you can't afford it stop complaining about it, but it seems like a good product
Especially for those who have already paid for an iPhone GPS software, and don't want the
added clutter of a standalone unit

Speakerphone works correctly
GPS signal is improved
Mounting dock looks secure and allows for rotation

thanks for the review :apple:

Has anyone tested if the CarKit works with another navigation app? I know that it should (tomtom said it before and I saw the notice that is in the box) but I was just wondering if someone has tested if it works with the navigon app.

Oh, by the way: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THyTnt00b5I

No offense (really not!) but it matches this thread... Always makes me smirk...

The challenge is knowing whether Navigon (and other apps) are actually utilizing/interacting with the GPS chip in the TT Car Kit.

Oh, it is definitely interacting with the Car Kit Chip: If you put the iPhone out of the Kit during navigation the GPS signal is lost and it takes some time until it is back again.
