Meh, I just don't care anymore. To me, the telephone is the single most annoying invention of all time anyway, so no matter how cool a cell phone is, I'm going to be a hard sell.

I had a cell phone once, but I had it turned off after just a few months because it was only used to receive calls that shouldn't have even been made in the first place, such as "Could you stop on your way home and pick up some milk?" from my wife. We live less than three blocks from a grocery store, and I wouldn't be home for nearly four hours. She's a large woman, but surely she can walk five and a half blocks in less than four hours! I would have rather gotten home and had to walk to get the milk myself than waste time having to excuse myself from class to take the call.

I could understand a call like "Hi, honey. The bridge collapsed and the car is sunk in the river. The police and ambulance are on the way. I'm okay, but I just wanted you to know that I'll be home a little late." I'd still rather that be a voicemail, though...

Anyway, sorry for the rant. I can't wait for the iPhone buzz to die down either, and I sincerely hope that Leopard isn't Apple's only other major product this year. The current design of the Pro desktops and portables is nearing five years old, I sure hope that at least part of the design team was spared from being drafted to the iPhone.

Do I ever share your pain ... I work in lower Manhattan and I consider cellphones the curse of modern day life.

I think MacRumors is doing a good job of covering such an important event, since the iPhone is indeed the most significant product Apple has released since the iPod, arguably. That being said, the front page saturated with very detailed, almost too-specific iPhone stories IMO - "iPhone released in a few hours", "iPhone Just released", "early iPhone photos", "Apple Stores closng for iPhone release", "Photos after official release", "Apple Store Down", "Apple Store Up"... It does seem a little excessive, even with this being such a big event.

That being said, MacRumors is being very comprehensive about its coverage. I for one (and no doubt many other non-US members who can't even get an iPhone) aren't as interested as others, but you can't cater to everyone after all. ;) Admittedly this is why I haven't been participating much on MR at all lately - it's basically been transformed into iPhoneRumors.com and it's been a bit to much for me... ;) For others though, I'm sure this is not the case, so again, good for MacRumors for providing users with the granularity of details which they desire.

Like a lucid moment within a spell. Couldn't have put it better myself.

Why does the iPhone get its own Nav Button in the MR navigation bar now? And even though it's after page 2 on the nav, it's before the page 2 box in the left column on the main index page.

I'm a diehard mac fan and although I think the iPhone is cool, I don't think it deserves to be so prominent with its new tab and all.

I was hoping the iPhone hype would have died by now.

*cough* Re-read this post.

I know this seems mind-boggling wrong given the amount of iPhone content on MR, but take a quick peek at a calendar-- it hasn't even been a full week since the release of this product! Seriously. Gotta wait several hours for it to become just one week. Yes, it has been a long week. :p

No one is going to fix this discrepancy? Oy. It annoys me. I'd rather have page 2 first on the main page.

The iPhone hype has bored me to the point of catatonia.

Give it another few years to iron the bugs/ battery/ price issues out and i'll take a look.

Remember when Apple made computers? ;)

Hopefully when new iMacs (and iLife '07/'08?) then Leopard come out we'll get back on track.

I think the problem is now that Apple is on the Intel bandwagon, it may be locked into a regular (yay!) but uninspiring (nay..) upgrade cycle. It's difficult to keep churning out Core Duo, Core 2 Duo then Santa Rosa models and also develop a new iconic Mac like the iMac or Cube.

It's likely the iPhone is going to dominate the headlines for some time to come.

I think you've been running with to many bulls my friend.

;)

Intel + Apple are a very good thing, but the iPhone is overpriced, overhyped and worst of all for Europeans, severely locked and restricted by its supplier.

Give it 2 years when Apple have to compete on price instead of novelty value and then i'll seriously consider it.

1st gen hardware "The horror, The horror"

If I had a penny for every time... :p

I don't have any problem with the iPhone's price, if they'd shipped the same device marketed as an "iNewton" or "Newton Pro" people might be saying it's cheap for a quality PDA, and look, it's a phone too.

In any case, the iPhone is new and shiny, the Mac at the moment isn't. I'm sure Leopard will breathe some new life into the Mac world (and macrumors.com in particular); but with the desktop/laptop market being quite mature I think we're not likely to see a Mac/a Mac story like (say) the original iMac for a looong time.

Must admit, not a huge fan of mobile phones, at the age of 30 have still yet to actually buy myself a mobile, the mobiles i've owned have all been gifts/upgrade hand-me-downs from girlfriend.

In agreement with other posters here, its pretty annoying that on the forum page, the Iphone forums are located above all the other forums - especially the Mac hardware forums.

I mean, its not iphonerumors.com

I understand the relevance of your keeping your traffic and adjusting to what people are coming here to look at it, but don't you want to maintain and also provide for the people who came here before the iphone?

Ps. I wonder if the over hype of iphone will backfire on Apple? Probably not: there are plenty of ipod haters, but it continually does well.

The other forums did not disappear into thin air after the introduction of the iPhone forums, and you can hide the iPhone forum section if you followed the instructions earlier in this thread. So what's the problem again?

Apple does more than computers, many people have an interest in the iPhone, and many may not. Regardless it's been pointed out often enough that this site is not just Mac hardware but pretty much all Apple in general. Customize your settings for Forum Spy and the forum index the way you want them, because obviously not everything will appeal to everyone - I regularly ignore all the threads in the Apple TV and iPod forums because I have no interest in those products whatsoever. If you dislike the iPhone, ignore the iPhone forums. With time this will die down a little bit. But the product is hardly a week and a half old.

Please don't be sensible about all this, we like having a good moan and winge!

I see we now have 5 iphone forums,

Seems a bit intense seeing as we have only 7 for the previous devices released by apple, covering many many product lines.

Are we paying a bit too much attention to a phone?

You can collapse that forum 'category' and never have to see it. Hint: click this image

Personally, judging from the posts in there, I'd say it appears to be necessary to have that many forums.

I don't have an iphone and I hated when the front page was getting spammed with iphone news, I even posted about it. However, I'm not against having a place here for iphone enthusiasts--just not at the expense of everyone else.

REAL news is no longer being buried, and stories like "steve jobs takes photo of his own butt using iphone--an Apple first!" (and four ensuing updates on the topic) aren't polluting the front page. That's all I care about.

I felt as though my complaint about the iPhonespam was taken seriously, as it seemed to cease immediately after I posted my thread. It's comforting to see that kind of responsiveness, especially to senior members.

I don't understand how people are still complaining... No one is forcing them to read the iPhone News and/or the iPhone forums: just collapse the forums (see post above), ignore them in Forum Spy and don't read the iPhone Blog and news on the iPhone!

If you don't want to read about the iPhone, then don't! It's as easy as that.

Just my 2c.

Plus, I'd rather it be at the top-- lessen the likelihood of iPhone-obsessed droids from posting in the wrong forum. ;)

I'd go one step further and have it be at the top--over the news, even.

That way, there's the smallest possibility of me reading a thread about "LoLz WTF mYIPhoNe SED LOWBATT So I BEET it W/ a bat!!!1!! NOW it Dosnt work, pls help lol!"

It may even be better to have a 2nd board devoted totally to iPhone--alter forums.macrumors.com/index.php to exclude the category for iphone, and instead have it appear in forums.macrumors.com/iphone.php.

It still annoys me that on the main site, the iPhone blog is ABOVE page 2 news. I think it should be vice versa, but apparently MR doesn't care.
