No, there is no reason why I tried ChronoSync demo version instead of CarbonCopycloner accept that I don't like the name. A carbon copy was used in type writers before the invention of computers, the carbon copy results were of a poorer quality when compared to the original type.

The results of the backup with chronoSync were looking good. But, the thing is the ChronoSync app reached its limit of amount of synchronisations and did not complete my back up. so, I tried to buy it but the website won't accept my card. I think it might because I don't use $. So, now I don't know what to do next. Maybe I should try CCC? But will this do all my internal HD?

Don't worry about your RAW image files. They are just files -- they can only be damaged by issues that would damage any file.

What you might be talking about is that your image editor (such as Adobe Lightroom, or DxO, or whatever) gets confused when you move the files, and the adjustments you've made don't show up any more. This is normal and does not mean that the file's been damaged. It only means that the app doesn't know where it is, and thus can't apply any adjustments that you've made.

Yes, telling your app how to locate files you've moved can be tedious. But that will be all you have to do.

Hi there. Wanted to reach out to you to inform you that we do have a 30-day fully functional trial license key. You can retrieve it here:
http://www.econtechnologies.com/support/trial-key.php

Also, we noticed your troubles with purchasing. Please contact Joe at sales@econtechnologies.com for help.

Give it a try. The 30 day trial is fully functional, so you can do a clone of your full disk and it will be bootable.
Yayyy

When I rebooted it worked this time. Do you think that I'll be able to use time machine to back up my external, even though I did the initial backup with CCC?

Great news!

No, you can not use both on the same partition/volume. TM has it's own Apple proprietary file system. It is recommended to only use TM on a dedicated partition with nothing but TM files on it. You can set up a scheduled backups with CCC. It will do incremental/changed files, not a complete clone again. It's backups will look just like your primary iMac HD and it will be bootable. CCC is a good tool and I like it better than TM and it has been more reliable for me. The only downside is you have to buy it.
Here is a link to a pdf of the user manual so you can read about the features:

EDIT: One other difference I forgot to mention. The CCC backup is an exact mirror of your iMac disk, which means if you delete/change a file on your iMac, then it will be delete/changed on the backup. If you want to keep older versions of files then turn on Safety Net in CCC. Read about it in the User Manual.

I thought I should explain why I don't fully trust Time Machine backups. It is a great tool when it works right, but I have seen many threads on MacRumors of people having problems because the TM backups just quit working/errors or people have a HD failure in their Mac, replace the HD and when they go to TM to restore and it does not work. There are also people that it works fine. Your experience has not been so great. Just think of all of the time you have spent trying to get it working right for you.

Thankyou so much for your help. I shall buy CCC when my trial runs out.
