For $20 they sell a wrist strap that plugs into the lightning port and you strap it to your wrist like a Wii-Mote.Is there a tip for not losing the damn thing in bed? Can’t find black things in the dark.

I got a white silicone case from Amazon for about $7. It's now far easier to find (and to hold) -- highly recommended!
I purchased the ATV4 at launch, and I knew all of the Siri Remote tips, but #9. #9 will be very helpful for me though, as the new endless swiping for text often leads to wrong inputs for me.The majority of those were not known to me I have to admit. Appreciate it.
This seems to be the trend for Apple products now. I find myself having to look up "How to do [this task]" on google for very simple tasks. The fact these tips require explaining is a huge fail. Nothing about Apple products is intuitive any longer. Worst remote EVER!
These suggestions are helpful - but the fact remains that this is the worst remote I have ever had to deal with.
I don’t lose mine, but constantly pick it up and have it aimed the wrong way. After two months I’m still getting use to holding the remote without looking at it.
Tap twice on the main button to quickly see the time of day your video will end rather than remaining time.
Tap three times to toggle subtitles.
These work in most apps I use. Not all.
Interesting. I believe mine has a magnet as well, and it's never given me issues.I got a similar one from Amazon which has a magnet in it too. The Magnet helps in letting me stick the remote to the TV when not in use so that its visible out right on the TV.
But, somehow I feel having the case on prevented the remote from working right while I was playing the Tennis game on ATV. As I got the remote out of it, the remote worked flawlessly again for the game.
I suspect the magnet in it could be screwing with the inbuilt sensors. Although the gyroscope in the remote could be all electronic circuitry and I could be completely wrong.
Well, last saturday was the first time I saw this issue. Until then I don't remember when I had to take the sleeve off the remote to play a game. FWIW, I still think the Apple TV is a very comfortable device when you have a host of Apple devices. My favorite part is to be able to use my 60 inch TV as a second screen to my Macbook Pro.Interesting. I believe mine has a magnet as well, and it's never given me issues.

Sadly, its easier for Apple to make a how-to video after the fact, than make the software intuitive from the start. This seems to be the trend for Apple products now. I find myself having to look up "How to do [this task]" on google for very simple tasks.
Apple software used to be much more intuitive....
Put a brightly colored rubberband around the bottom. Also helps you quickly orient the thing in your hand. I started doing this after the 100th time I found myself swiping on the wrong part of the remote. 1) this is free because you already have rubber bands and 2) you're not buying more plastic to put into the world. Is there a tip for not losing the damn thing in bed? Would be interested to hear more about this. My "tv" is a projector, so I bought an external DTV receiver box and an OTA antenna, and have it plugged into my receiver on a separate HDMI port from my ATV. Works very nicely, but are you saying there's a way to control your OTA tuner through the ATV?Now that I’m watching OTA using Channels (with a network tv tuner)
The only place I've experienced that on the Apple TV is in the new YouTube app - which treats the touchpad as a D-pad and thus completely misinterprets swipes (gee, thanks Google). Everywhere else the response of the remote has been pretty much flawless for me. Perhaps check the touch sensitivity option in the settings and/or clean off the touchpad? Or, possibly, there's a lot of interference with Bluetooth at your home?Swipe to change a setting....nothing happens, swipe again - the selection moves five steps across the screen....swipe once more....no movement.
I got the "Griffin Survivor Play" case in translucent white - I've also tried a couple of random silicone cases from Amazon, but they don't seem to fit as well (it's entirely possible that other/newer ones are improved). The Griffin one has nice curved/contoured bits on the bottom that make it easier to pick up off a table. I've also got Apple's "Remote Loop" on it entirely to serve as a "tail" - makes it easier to find, and trivial to tell end from end without looking. With these additions (which should not be necessary, Apple), it's my favorite remote: comfortable to hold, very fast response, everything I need, nothing I don't (I don't like remotes where you have to aim in between two dozen useless buttons to get to the three that work for the current function/device). It's no good for text input, but few remotes are (I just reach for my iPhone).I got a white silicone case from Amazon for about $7. It's now far easier to find (and to hold) -- highly recommended!

It's a very touchy-feely company.
Some good tips, thanks. I thought holding down the Home button would take you back to the main menu. I'll have to check that out.
These types of comments crack me up. I’d urge you to try a Roku or Fire. The user experience is so much better on those just because of the full function remote. Even the same app (YouTube for example) is superior on the Roku. These types of comments crack me up. None of these tips are required for the easy use of the remote, these are just shortcuts. I knew most of them but still learned a few new ones and appreciated the tip about turning the double click of the home/tv button back to home as opposed to the tv app (which I still haven not really used).

I use a Harmony 650 remote. I really like the Apple TV remote and want to use it, but it won’t turn my sound bar on or off. It’ll control the sound and turn my TV on and off, but not the sound bar.
