I didn't care at about MMS until the other day when a friend tried to send me a video from her phone to mine. She laughed at me when I told her my expensive iPhone couldn't receive multimedia messages. So now I want that feature just so I can throw it back in her face...

I personally don't care much for MMS, but you'd think AT&T could just forward the content to an email address rather than that stupid web site that can't be opened on the iPhone!

In any event, let me cast a vote for cut-copy-paste support. Easy to implement with a two-finger setup: hold down at the start point to bring up the magnifier, then do the same with another finger at the end point, scrolling if necessary.

Copy&Paste, iChat, MMS, and a much MUCH improved bluetooth would keep me going until the SDK comes out. Anything else would just be nice to have, or really cool. Who knows, maybe id rather some other stuff, try me apple :D

These are the top things I want Apple to address in the next firmware release.

9 - Ringtones

7 - SMS/MMS upgrades

6 - Emailing pictures

5 - Notes/To do lists

4 - Small UI problems

2 - Bluetooth

1 - Copy/Paste

I agree with all of this! It's what's keeping me from buying the iPhone... (mainly MMS, because I need that).

Also maybe iChat/IM's (I don't use it really, but I know other people do).

voice dialing is a must for me so I can be hands free using a headset. the lack of search described by a previous poster really scares me now. i use address book to store all kinds of stuff, not just addresses, so i need to be able to search it just like i do on my mac. cut and paste surely must be coming soon. finally, i use tomtom in my treo all the time. google earth or map or whatever it is just doesn't hack it.

Flash

Being able to play Flash is a clear need for both the iPhone and Touch.
Vanilla

We cannot even use our own iPhones in the field to show a client our own website!

We need FLASH support if you want to call this thing a "real" web browser with the full internet.

When I e-mail a photo... I do NOT want my iPhone to automatically jump all the way back to my home screen. I want to return to my photo. It's a hassle to have to go back into my photo album... search for the photo again... and then (finally) e-mail it to someone else. This did not happen with the old firmware. It's a new problem with the new firmware.

Sometimes I send e-mails from my iPhone (via Yahoo) and they never send. This is a pain. I write something (or send a photo) and it pretends it is sent... but you later check your "sent" folder on your e-mail and it is as if you never typed or sent the e-mail. So, you ALWAYS have to check your sent folder to ensure that your message went through. Argh.

It would be nice to attach a folder to an existing e-mail. You know... you are replying to an e-mail... and then want to attach a photo. I'd love this feature.

Ability to turn off EDGE completely. I don't like it when my phone jumps back and forth between WiFi and EDGE (when the WiFi signal isn't the strongest... BUT it still better than EDGE).

Remove apps from the home screen. I don't care about Stocks. The iPod can do this (customize the main menu) why not the iPhone.

To do's sync through email with .mac. This is with Leopard only I think. It creates a new folder in the mailbox called Apple Mail To Do and stores any to do events you have in there. You can also set an alert with these if there is a certain time you need to do something. I have only used it once so far, but it worked for me.

This happens over other IMAP servers as well.

I love my iphone as it is, but of course some improvements would be welcome and a delight. Everyone has a list, so here's mine:

HIGH PRIORITY
1) Flash support
2) Secure data vault - I'd love to be able to securely carry around my acct #'s, usernames and passwords.
3) W I D E S C R E E N keyboard in all apps.

MEDIUM PRIORITY
1) Copy/Cut/Paste
2) Expanded BT functionality (sync, stereo headsets, etc.)
3) Notes/To Do sync
4) iChat

LOW PRIORITY
1) iTunes store via EDGE
2) MMS

I couldn't care less about ringtones.

I second this... I third, fourth and fifth and infinitum this.

That's a very cool prospect, but I think it would require an update to iTunes to allow you to enter and/or copy and paste it while on the computer. Otherwise good luck setting that up manually on the phone.

Unlimited storage for SMS messages. There is no greater update that the iPhone needs.

PassportWallet allows encrypted usernames and passwords on the iPhone. And I would hardly place that as critical. Nor is a widescreen keyboard critical.

Critical is being able to simply search for someone's company name or first name. Or searching for a calendar event.
Critical is running Leopard with to-do lists with no iPhone support. I mean, that feature is a given for the first update.
Critical is fixing any of the bugs with email, allowing mass delete in email, allowing more than 200 messages in mail. Well, it's critical for some people who are busy.

What about these:

1. UNLOCKED DEVICES

2. airtunes support so I can stream music from my iphone to my living room speakers! That would be soooo coool :-D

3. support for PocketDock's line out... I have to use the docking station in my car to have a line out!! I thought Steve told us we could use our iPod accessories with the iPhone!

4. ability to send SMS to multiple recipients (I just got a baby last week and had to write down about 50 times the same SMS!)

Anyway this device is really cool knowing it's the first phone Apple has ever made. I can't wait to see version 2!

This is why I'm comfy in sitting out on the iPhone for now. It seems like the best phone out there (or at least for me, I can't stand standard phone layouts) but there seems to be a few things that need fixing first. But it's to be expected with a Rev A product.

I just hope Steve listens. The iPod was great because it was a struggling Apple releasing something new and they listened to the people to make the device what it is today. The iPhone? Apple seem to be doing fine enough to not make changes to the machine.

Fix the calculator.

Flash.

Video record.

MMS.

And Number 1 - Stop killing third-party apps.

I think you may have stumbled onto something. It's more than likely that apple won't make these changes at all til the 2nd version. My guess is they're selling a ton of units right now anyway, and the voices clamoring for improvements aren't loud enough to slow that down. Come Rev 2, they'll be trumpeting these 'enhancements' as a way to entice people to upgrade the newest unit.

I think that 3G (or WiMAX) and larger capacity would be enough to spur me to upgrade. I dunno that they necessarily need to hold back on some of these minor fixes for the sake of future sales...

All good suggestions, but I would like to see a whiner detector that (upon detection of an iPhone whiner) turns the iPhone into a Blackberry.:D

There's a nifty app at Polar Bear Farm that does this very thing. Donationware.
EDIT: App is called 'Search' allows you to search the addressbook.
