A lot of the topics people are requesting for can and most likely will be added by the release of the SDK in February. Some of these things include:
- Video capture: there's already a 3rd party app that has shown it is possible to add this with a simple program.
- Still Picture Focusing: Haven't heard about anything like this in the works, but I'm hoping it comes out with the SDK as well.
- iWork: It makes sense that Apple would like more of a push in the corporate market. It looks very likely that there will be either a Microsoft Mobile Office (which I would prefer) or an iWork-mobile released. This would obviously include such issues as a copy/paste feature being added.
- Voice dialing: The voice memo feature that is rumored to be added in the next 1.1.3 firmware is obviously the first step towards voice dialing. Wouldn't it be great if the voice memo feature is tagged with a future iWork, which ultimately lets us dictate new documents?
- Cellular GPS: With the release of the Google GPS software. It's pretty obvious that this will become an option for the iPhone after February as well. Friends of mine in NYC say it's pretty accurate (it pinpointed his position in his apartment practically to the foot). I'd assume as you get away from dense city settings, and move towards rural suburbs, the accuracy will go down.
There are however a few issues that I agree with. I noticed that there have been several times when the iPhone will lock up when clicking a link on Safari after opening a new page, and a few seconds after a lock, it'll return to the home screen. I haven't been able to identify what was consistently doing this, but it's happened a few times now.
It'd be nice if there was a text message character counter, but also a counter for the number of texts you have sent over a certain period of time.
For those asking for a horizontal keyboard, sure, I think it'd be nice to have the option to type either vertically or horizontally, but not because of the "fat finger syndrome." For the most part, the word recognition is spot on if you're relatively close to the letter that you were aiming for. Just trust your phone
