In no particular order:

Garden State - I don't see this as a love story, more somebody who is lost finding their way - and as its aimed at mid-late twenty somethings it really struck a cord with me. And the soundtrack is excellent!
The Shawshank Redemption - Flawless
Ghostbusters - My best cinema experience EVER. In an old school two tier cinema with the crowd singing along with the theme. Brilliant. Why doesn't this happen anymore?
Glory - Amazing. Saw it by accident one late night and it blew me away. First time a film made me cry (a little!!) as an adult.
ET - I was 7 and I cried. Admittedly I had the decency to wait until the journey home in my mum's car, and I bizarrely remember thinking "What am I crying now for?"

1. Finding Neverland
2. love actually...
3. 50 First Dates (yeah, I know)
4. On The Beach
5. American Beauty
6. The Castle

confession-- Okay, I can't be the only one. When I was a kid 'The Transformers' was pretty big. I remember when the movie came out and Optimus Prime died.
I was pretty broken up at that. How about you?

lol..... I forgot about that! *sheepishly puts hand in air* :D

Oh my GOD. Totally. I mean, freaking Optimus Prime, you know?

One forgets just how important Transformers were ...

Shameless plug...

They are still important. Here's a shameless plug for the thread on the Transformers live-action movie coming out in 2007. :D

Transformers was a big deal. When that movie came out i was eight. it was a major big deal.

Forrest Gump made me cry like a little girl. that was a sad movie in the end. it makes me cry as an adult to see the relationship forrest has with his son.

Office Space, i fyou are in the tech industry then you know what i'm talking about. this is a repeat of everything that is wrong with office politics.

1. forrest gump (a classic)

2. big fish (love that pearl jam song)

3. breakfast at tiffany's (cool, classic)

4. finding nemo (how could a cartoon like this touch me...?)

5. the terminal (it is movie how humans should really be... friendly, humorous, patient, loving, down-to-earth).

Before I had a kid, about the only movie that could make me cry would have to involve dogs in danger. Far From Home: The Adventures of Yellow Dog stands out as a movie that never fails to make me misty (when the dog, filthy, battered, and bruised, finally makes it home at the end, I always have a tear in my eye).

Now, I cry at "touching" movie moments all the time. Help me out here, fellow Dads.

If I had to pick a few, they'd be:

Glory
Shawshank Redemption
E.T.
Ghost
Schindler's List
Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (I know, it's not a movie, but damn I cry every time when I see how moved the family is by what people have done to help them out.)

Especially when they show kids without limbs and in wheelchairs. They know how to get the tears flowing.

The megaphone schtick has got to go, though. He's really annoying when he wants to be.

Ty Pennington is a waste. I think the two guys who build all the funky stuff for the kids rooms are pretty cool. They really get emotional about the families, and it rings true every time. Ty always says the same thing to the parents when he takes them to their bedroom suite. He doesn't seem very sincere to me.

Im a dad too. Im definately much more sensitive now then before. cry at everything!

Reading through the titles I'm embarrassed to admit that a whole slew of them made be tear up or cry...

Actually, there's one movie I vowed never to watch again because it turned me into a repulsive mushy, soggy mess-- Man on Fire. I didn't think it was that great of a movie or anything, but I couldn't stop crying!

About a Boy- one of my favorites (but it's too feel good to cry over-- and I thought nobody else liked it! :D)
Amelie- (no tears) but still endearing
Roman Holiday- such noble 'martyrdom' of sorts...

Notable tearjerkers (for me) that have already been mentioned in this thread:
-scene from Armageddon w/ Liv Tyler and Bruce Willis
-50 First Dates (come on, she can't remember her kid for cryin' out loud!)
-Forest Gump
-The Lion King- when Mufasa dies! :(

How could this thread have progressed this far without someone mentioning To Kill a Mockingbird? If you don't get choked up at the scene where Atticus is sitting on the porch and listening to Scout ask Jem about their mother, you are some kind of heartless freaking robot.

Definitely E.T. and Big Fish. Also Steel Magnolias and Driving Miss Daisy. I'll probably think of some more later.

I have never seen Life is Beautiful, but it sounds like I need to.

Donnie Darko? I was left touching my head and scratching it after watching that movie.
Same goes for the equally overrated Mulholland Drive.
Here's to the Crazy Ones

The Notebook and 9 Rota (Russian)

Life Is Beautiful is certainly one. Both painfull and beautiful. You only need to see it once.

I'm sorry I saw it even once. Not everybody is going to like this movie. I sure didn't. Not necessarily my favorite movies of all time, but some of the most affecting:

  • A River Runs Through It
  • The Natural
  • Grand Canyon
  • Mother
  • Proof
