Actually, I am beginning to suspect that most join trip over the forums - or take a look at what is happening - after they buy a Mac computer, and need an answer to a question, rather than as part of the research necessary before you buy a Mac and/or switch.

I know that is the way it was for me. I bought a Mac computer in April 2008, as a belated birthday present to myself, and, as I was what is termed in the parlance 'a switcher' there was a lot I didn't know. Hence, googling (I didn't want to bombard the very professional, helpful and kind chap in the Apple shop who had sold it to me, and who was, in fairness, very patient & helpful in answering questions) to find out more, and then stumbling across this forum.

In any case, most days, a drop in visit, is part of my daily routine now……

And, when MR is down, or inexplicably inaccessible (as it was during the hack attack a few months ago), I feel a strange sense of deprivation, and loss.

Tell me about it! When MR goes down it's then I realise how often I'm on here.

Amen to that. I had a stopover in Istanbul airport for a few hours some months back (exactly the time the concerted hack attack caused the system to collapse). That was when I realised that what I had assumed was a brief daily drop in, sometimes, turned into a bit more than that.

Normally, I am an avid reader of current affairs, and was, that day, too, as per usual, but was amazed (at myself) at how often I returned to MR to check whether the forums were still down or whether that had been resurrected.

Having said that, sometimes you do disappear for weeks, or months, at a time, as the demands of 'real life' intrude and lay prior claim to your time.

I've not really disappeared since I got here, but that's probably because I don't have a life!

I am still around. It is just that there are many that expect you to be an extremist one way or the other. I really detracts from my enjoyment of the boards.

Can we get an update on the user numbers pls?

There has been an update posted at six monthly intervals every six months since then, so there are a considerable number of threads with what I assume is the data you are seeking available on this forum.

The most recent of these threads was posted this January, that is, January 2018.
