Who has graced these fora - not least the photography sections - with her presence for almost two decades.
Thank you! Amazing how quickly those years have gone by.... At one point for a while I took a brief hiatus from photography and from posting in general, otherwise my post count probably would be much higher, come to think of it.

Indeed. Why do people always assume posters are male? Is it because it’s a technology site? Of something else? Isn’t the chances a 50/50 split it you don’t know?

Actually that would make a really interesting graph. The gender of the top 50 posters? I’m guessing more male than female, but who knows.

Ah, yes, a fascinating observation.

And yes, the default assumption of who posts on a tech site does usually run to male, an observation that is usually - but not always - accurate.

Not only that, but - as is clearly also the case with @Clix Pix - because my own nom de plume (pen name on this forum and other fora) is what might be described as "gender neutral" - in other words, you cannot tell my gender from my name - this very assumption has also been made about me.

Sometimes, - depending on context, posts, time - am I busy? - tone - I will mildly point out that I am not male; otherwise, I shrug, and let it go

But yes, I would agree with your assumption that the gender of the top 50 posters is more male than female.

However, I would go further: Not only is it mostly male, I suspect that it may skew heavily male.

In any case, were it not for my own domestic circumstances, I certainly would not have appeared anywhere near the top of that list. Having said that, while I had the ultimate responsibility for my mother's care, most of the physical hands-on stuff was done by others (above all, our superlative Filipina carer).

And that prompts my other observation: I would wager that of the women who appear at the higher reaches of posting altitudes here (and elsewhere), very few have additional domestic responsibilities: in other words, I would guess - or assume - that most are single, or widowed, or - perhaps - separated, divorced.

I just counted six that I am pretty sure or actually know from the past are females....and several of them were from older times, and no longer participate here now. So yeah, definitely a higher percentage of males than females in the top 50.

As for the gender neutrality of my user name, yes, it could be either a male or a female user name, and that is one reason that as a contributor I use the original, traditional "Macrumors Demi-goddess" tag so as to give people a clue..... Doesn't always work, though!

Some of us females like tech stuff, too....

AND, the other big mistake a lot of people make is to assume that someone over a certain age isn't going to know anything about technology or be interested in it, will need major help from a grandson to get his or her computer up and running.....

For your information, you young whippersnappers, it is the people in my generation who first developed the whole computer thing in the first place, and databases, and search engines: essentially everything related to information technology. Yep, you have us to thank for being able to sit on the bus on your way home from work looking at your iPhone or more comfortably situated in your study at home on your computer and read and post on MR! :)

Ah, yes. Gen-X forgotten again! :D

Between the generation who developed the whole computer and the 'young whippersnappers'. :)

The generation that can program a VCR and a a tape-based answering machine, use a cordless phone, and also handle iPhones and iPads. The generation who heralded the arrival of the internet and learned to code but can still make change when the systems go down.

Yeah, we're here, somewhere, LOL! :D

And here I am struggling to get to 250 posts to unlock the Marketplace after over 11 years. Some of these numbers astound me!

LOL, I think its a doable achievement, just go into the forums that interest you. The MBP and Apple Silicon are high on my list. Just talk about what you like or don't like. The news forums is also a place to easily drive up your post count, as people are quick to reply and you can get into some good debates.

Yeah, it's doable…and I inhabit probably just four subforums here on MacRumors. I have also been here 11 years.

But. I'm in front of a computer from the time I get up to the time I go to bed. Checking the forums multiple times over the course of my day is fairly easy. Somebody will post every two or three minutes or so. Basically, I live here. :)

I seem to recall that it took me years and years to arrive at a figure approaching around 10,000 posts.
I now see my post count as a sign of advancing age, given my modest posting rate.

Sounds like you need to get into more arguments.

Yeah, I think that's part of my problem. I am not a big argument person, lol.

I never have had huge post numbers anywhere even though I have been on forums for 23+ years now. DVD Talk I have been a forum member since 2001 and I only have like 26,000 posts there.

That sounds a lot like me.
