• Current Top 50 = members with the 50 currently highest post counts.
• Cur Posts = current count of posts by this member (see Note below).
• 6-Mo Posts = count of posts made in this measurement period, or "---" if none.
• Cur Rate = average # posts per day by this member over the measurement period.
• Delta Rate = change in average daily post rate from the prior semi-annual period to the latest period.
• Prev Rank = previous rank, as of 6 months ago (Jan 2019); a number above 50 for those who are new to the Top 50.
• Delta Rank = change in rank, i.e., # of slots +higher or -lower in rank since prior semi-annual stats.
• 6-Mo Likes = count of likes received in this measurement period.
• Followers = current count of forum followers, or "---" if data unavailable.
• Avg of one post every = average time between member's posts, in days, hours, and minutes, based on a 24-hour day.

Remarks

1. After a long time with no entries, the Top 10 has a new member: @Apple fanboy. He pushed out @Eidorian.
   
   
2. @Scepticalscribe moved up 1 position. She continues to have the highest post rate of all tracked users, and the only member to post at an average rate faster than once per hour.
   
   
3. @Doctor Q edged past @GoCubsGo almost at the finish line. This change of rank wasn't in January's projections, but Doctor Q increased his post rate enough to make it happen.
   
   
4. Although @Relentless Power had a reduced post rate, he still advanced by 2 positions.
   
   
5. There were only two post-rate increases in the Top 30: @Doctor Q and @MacNut. All other Top 30 members had reduced post rates. The largest decrease was by @Newtons Apple.
   
   
6. @I7guy increased his post rate and advanced by 18 positions, for the largest change in rank in the Top 50. This is after debuting in the Top 50 only 6 months ago. To enter the Top 50, he advanced by 17 positions, so he's managed two Statistics Days with rank increases of more than 15.

Remarks

1. @Zenithal is the most prolific poster outside the Top 50 of Table 1. He also advanced in post-count rank by 114 positions, which is by far the largest increase in all 400+ users I have data for.
   
   
2. Among these prolific posters, everyone's post rate increased, except for @Shanghaichica.

Genuinely absorbing, and obviously, a task that requires much by way of work, and time.

I had assumed that with the July 4 holiday - and a happy July 4 to Our Transatlantic Cousins - the six monthly statistics might take a little longer to appear than usual.

Only @Apple fanboy is projected to surpass @mad jew in the next 6 months. The projection from January 2019 was that @Relentless Power would be close behind, but his post rate has decreased enough to move the crossover projection into 2020.

Apple fanboy's decrease in post rate over the last 6 months was enough to move his crossover date from 2019-Aug-29, as predicted in Jan 2019, to 2019-Sep-10.

The first 9 positions ended up ranked almost as predicted. @Doctor Q increased his post rate, and edged past @GoCubsGo in the home stretch.

@Relentless Power had a markedly lower average post rate, so didn't finish where predicted.

The predicted post counts of the top 9 were off, because most members posted at a decreased rate compared to the prior 6 months (July 2018 - January 2019).

@I7guy advanced more than predicted, ending the period at position 32 instead of 39. He was one of a few users to significantly outperform the projected change in rank.

Outside the Top 50, @Fishrrman is still close to break into the Top 50, and @cmaier markedly exceeded his predicted change in positions, with an increased post-rate of almost 50%.

Remarks

1. After a long time with no entries, the Top 10 has a new member: @Apple fanboy. He pushed out @Eidorian.
   
   
2. @Scepticalscribe moved up 1 position. She continues to have the highest post rate of all tracked users, and the only member to post at an average rate faster than once per hour.
   
   
3. @Doctor Q edged past @GoCubsGo almost at the finish line. This change of rank wasn't in January's projections, but Doctor Q increased his post rate enough to make it happen.
   
   
4. Although @Relentless Power had a reduced post rate, he still advanced by 2 positions.
   
   
5. There were only two post-rate increases in the Top 30: @Doctor Q and @MacNut. All other Top 30 members had reduced post rates. The largest decrease was by @Newtons Apple.
   
   
6. @I7guy increased his post rate and advanced by 18 positions, for the largest change in rank in the Top 50. This is after debuting in the Top 50 only 6 months ago. To enter the Top 50, he advanced by 17 positions, so he's managed two Statistics Days with rank increases of more than 15.

Info About All Graphs

The horizontal X axes represent dates, and are labeled as YYYY-MM-DD.

The vertical Y axes are automatically determined, and are specific to each graph. The upper and lower limits of a graph are based on the range of values in the graphed data. This means that the steepness of line slopes can't be compared between different graphs.

Colors are also automatically assigned, from a rotating pool of 12 colors. This can make color-to-name conversion ambiguous when more than 12 members are graphed. Use each graph's legend or key on the right to resolve duplicate colors. The legend is arranged in the same order as the right-most points of each graph.

A dashed line is automatically assigned to inactive users (no posts in the latest measurement period), and a solid line to active users (at least 1 post in latest period). To reduce the clutter, the only inactive user typically shown is @mad jew.



Graphs of Top 50 Post-Counts Over Time

These two graphs show the progression of semi-annual post counts for the Top 50 posters, starting from 2016 July 3rd (2016-07-03). Users who made no posts in the last 6 months are omitted, except for the historical benchmark represented by @mad jew (dashed line in Group 1).

Member @Rogifan intentionally appears in both graphs, with different colors and very different line slopes, showing that slopes between graphs aren't comparable.

Top 50 Posters: In Two Groups

A horizontal graph line (or nearly so) is a member with a low post rate. The only user with a zero post-rate appearing in these graphs is @mad jew. Everyone else is shown with a solid line, and made at least one post in the last 6 months.

A steeply rising slope indicates a high post rate. If the slopes of the segments steepens over time, that user is increasing their post rate. If the slopes flatten, the post rate is falling off.


Ugly Graphs

The first graph below shows all the members from the two graphs above in a single graph. It's quite cluttered and difficult to read.

The second graph, which adds all the inactive members in the Top 50, is even more cluttered.

The main reason for showing these is to compare slopes (post-count growth rates). This gives an idea of how much the most prolific posters actually post.

Graphs of Weekly Post-Count Growth

The following graphs show weekly post-count growth for the most prolific 36 users, divided into 3 groups of 12 each. There is no overlap between groups.

Each line represents one user's weekly post-count growth, relative to their post count at the start of the measurement period in January 2019. In effect, each member gets their own "starting count", and the graph shows how the post count grows from week to week.

If a member makes a lot of posts for a week, then their line will slope up more steeply. If they make no posts for a week, then their line will be flat.

Since the members of each group have different ranges, you can't compare slopes between graphs. A steep line in one graph might not represent the same post rate in another graph. To get a sense of overall weekly growth, we need a single graph with all the Prolific Posters, which is shown after the groups of 12.

Notice the Y axis numbers in Group 1 vs. Group 2 or 3. Due to the prodigious post rates of the top few members, Group 1's top Y is several times larger than it is in Group 2.

The shape of most lines in Group 1 is roughly similar, despite some bends up or down. The green line for @cmaier shows some flattening of the slope from the end of April, signifying a reduction in weekly post rate starting at that time.

Thanks Chown for the tag. My post Count has dropped, I usually frequent the iPhone/Apple Watch forum mainly, and I feel like those particular forums have been unusually slower this year with participation, but still, MacRumors is my favorite tech site, with a lot of knowledgeable members on here whom I’ve learned lots from.

I already feel I have spent way too much time posting way too much than ever before. I get it, iOS 13 beta. But still. For me, this chart is not something I am proud of, but rather a shame to me. It’s really the time to slow down this trend.

But, thanks for your tremendous work and nicely built graphs.

Extraordinarily interesting.

Actually, my own post rate pretty strongly - and accurately - and closely - co-relates to, and reflects my personal and professional circumstances.

In July of last year, I returned home from a year working in the Horn of Africa; with the exception of a fortnight (in late September early October) observing an election, I was at home with my mother, whose health was deteriorating.

Both of these facts - being at home, - and entirely focussed on events and matters at home, - and being with my mother who was deteriorating and declining inexorably - inevitably led to an increase (pronounced and marked) in my posting habits for that six month period.

However, while my mother passed away towards the end of December, my own posting patterns only underwent a significant (and measurable) transformation when I spent a number of weeks in Ukraine for the purpose of observing the two rounds of their presidential elections, the first of which occurred in late March and the second, which took place in the latter part of April.

Table Columns:

• Rank = Position in order by post count, 1 (highest) to way more than 50 (lowest).
• Current Top NN = members with the NN currently highest post counts.
• Cur Posts = current count of posts by this member .
• 6-Mo Posts = count of posts made in this measurement period, or "---" if none.
• Cur Rate = average # posts per day by this member over the measurement period.
• Delta Rate = change in average daily post rate from the prior semi-annual period to the latest period.
• Prev Rank = previous rank, as of 6 months ago (Jan 2019).
• Delta Rank = change in rank, i.e., # of slots +higher or -lower in rank since prior semi-annual stats.
• 6-Mo Likes = count of likes received in this measurement period.
• Followers = current count of forum followers, or "---" if data unavailable.
• Avg of one post every = average time between member's posts, in days, hours, and minutes, based on a 24-hour day.

There were more "Fun With Graphs" posts in the January 2019 thread, because it was the first time I'd presented the graphs and I was still exploring which ones worked and which ones didn't. There may be fewer such posts this time, depending on what looks fun and feasible.


Top 10 Changes in Rank: Details

In the Top 10, @Scepticalscribe moved past @Applejuiced, and @Doctor Q moved past @GoCubsGo. These graphs show their post counts in weekly detail.

A Race Into the Top 10

In January 2019, the two MacRumors users @Apple fanboy and @Relentless Power were in a close race to break into the Top 10. By July, only @Apple fanboy had made it there.

I've used @Eidorian at #10 as a proxy for breaking into the Top 10, with @mkrishnan (inactive) at #9. I've also included @mad jew (inactive) at #8, as a historical benchmark, and as the next benchmark for Apple fanboy to pass.

Two Thousand Likes and a Like

When post-count data is collected for MR users, their Likes counts have also been collected, when possible. Until now, that data has only been presented in tables, not graphs. The graph below shows the growth in weekly Likes counts for users who've received 2000 or more likes in the last 6 months.

You'll see a few users who don't appear in other graphs, like @samcraig and @keysofanxiety. There can be different reasons for this, such as posting mainly in an uncounted forum, or by making posts that often get multiple Likes.

More Fun

The 2 graphs below show my own weekly post and Likes counts, along with a few other members whose posts I enjoy reading in the Community forum: @AngerDanger, @Gutwrench, and @LizKat.

The dates in these graphs start in late February instead of early January because I forgot to add these members to the data-collection task until later.

The graphs have different ordering and colors, because Likes can easily exceed post count, as demonstrated by AngerDanger's results. Any post can have multiple Likes, even posts that are in uncounted forums.

The only graph lines that are the same in both cases are mine: I'm the bottom orange line. I clearly need to up my game.


The Likes count for AngerDanger tops out above 2000. This may cause you to wonder why he doesn't appear in the above Likes graph for users with 2000+ Likes. The answer to that is that he wasn't in the list of users on 01 Jan 2019, so there isn't a full 6-month span of data like the other users. This causes the script that produces Table 1 to omit his 6-month Likes counts.

Posts per Week

The above graphs that show weekly post growth are cumulative. That is, each line represents the cumulative growth of a user's post count relative to their post count at the start of the overall interval.

In this graph, we look at the number of posts per week. This grgaph will make changes from week to week more obvious. For example, if someone makes exactly 20 posts every week, then their line in this graph would be flat at a level of 20. In the post growth cumulative graph, their line would rise at a constant upward slope of 20 units per week. If they then drop to 18 posts per week, their posts-per-week line would drop by 2 units, a step that would easily be visible, while their growth line would show only a slight flattening.

I posted similar graphs in Jan 2019, but they had more users per graph, and were difficult to read. Here, I've manually chosen a few members to graph:

@Shirasaki - for the accelerating growth in May and early June
@Relentless Power - for almost making it into the Top 10
@Doctor Q - for the only post-rate increase in the Top 10

The Likes count for AngerDanger tops out above 2000. This may cause you to wonder why he doesn't appear in the above Likes graph for users with 2000+ Likes. The answer to that is that he wasn't in the list of users on 01 Jan 2019, so there isn't a full 6-month span of data like the other users. This causes the script that produces Table 1 to omit his 6-month Likes counts.

Posts per Week

The above graphs that show weekly post growth are cumulative. That is, each line represents the cumulative growth of a user's post count relative to their post count at the start of the overall interval.

In this graph, we look at the number of posts per week. This grgaph will make changes from week to week more obvious. For example, if someone makes exactly 20 posts every week, then their line in this graph would be flat at a level of 20. In the post growth cumulative graph, their line would rise at a constant upward slope of 20 units per week. If they then drop to 18 posts per week, their posts-per-week line would drop by 2 units, a step that would easily be visible, while their growth line would show only a slight flattening.

I posted similar graphs in Jan 2019, but they had more users per graph, and were difficult to read. Here, I've manually chosen a few members to graph:

@Scepticalscribe - for having a prolific post rate
@Shirasaki - for the accelerating growth in May and early June
@Relentless Power - for almost making it into the Top 10
@Doctor Q - for the only post-rate increase in the Top 10
@C DM - for having a roller-coaster growth line in the Weekly Post Growth graphs

Fascinating stuff, @chown33; and I will mention that my two stark, and perhaps, striking troughs (of posting) coincide almost exactly with the two rounds of the Ukrainian elections which I was observing.

Although April 1, and April 21 were the two designated polling days for the two rounds of the presidential elections, I was in the country for a week prior to each round of the elections and for a number of days post the actual election as we observed the counts and tabulations and attended debriefs.

Graphs of Weekly Post-Count Growth

The following graphs show weekly post-count growth for the most prolific 36 users, divided into 3 groups of 12 each. There is no overlap between groups.

Each line represents one user's weekly post-count growth, relative to their post count at the start of the measurement period in January 2019. In effect, each member gets their own "starting count", and the graph shows how the post count grows from week to week.

If a member makes a lot of posts for a week, then their line will slope up more steeply. If they make no posts for a week, then their line will be flat.

Since the members of each group have different ranges, you can't compare slopes between graphs. A steep line in one graph might not represent the same post rate in another graph. To get a sense of overall weekly growth, we need a single graph with all the Prolific Posters, which is shown after the groups of 12.

Notice the Y axis numbers in Group 1 vs. Group 2 or 3. Due to the prodigious post rates of the top few members, Group 1's top Y is several times larger than it is in Group 2.

The shape of most lines in Group 1 is roughly similar, despite some bends up or down. The green line for @cmaier shows some flattening of the slope from the end of April, signifying a reduction in weekly post rate starting at that time.

The line shapes in Group 2 show more variation. In particular, @C DM has a few slow (flatter) and prolific (steeper) intervals, while @AustinIllini in green shows a steadier rise for most weeks.

In Group 3, @Shirasaki is nearly flat until late March, then shows a classic acceleration curve starting in late April. @Rogifan also shows a general acceleration curve, though not as abrupt as @Shirasaki

In this graph we can compare slopes, which gives a better sense of how prolific @Scepticalscribe is compared to everyone else.

We can still see the acceleration curve for @Shirasaki, mainly because it stays well below the cluster of similar lines, until it ramps up into it.

This graph is similar to the one directly above, but it omits the Top 5 most prolific posters. Because the vertical max depends on the range of values graphed, it shows more detail in the lower range. Compare the graph Y range above, which has a Y-max of 4644, to the lower graph with its Y-max of 1806.
