I was wondering the same thing. Do people just not care there is a bright red badge that tells you to take care of something. I see it on youtuber's videos when it comes to email and they have like 10,000+ emails. I see a red badge and it actually bothers me so I take care of it right away. Maybe is an OCD thing, but that badge was there to make it so you don't forget that things exist.
Ha ha 100%. My friend has over 1500 emails and a few hundred text..” i don’t have the time to delete them”

I go nuts and clear them immediately

I recall Google Voice having live call screening at some point. Maybe it still does? The idea was that your phone rings, you pick it up and listen to the person starting to leave a message, and then break in and answer it if you want -- just like with a landline phone answering machine where you simply lift the receiver to pick up. This seems like the same thing, but with fancy voice transcription so you can do it without making any noise.
It still does on Pixel Phones. It is one of the reasons my neighbor/friend has kept on Android even though the rest of his family all use iPhones as he loves that feature.

So how's the stability of the beta? Any terrible events taking place?
I've got it installed on my i14PM and haven't noticed any 'terrible' events; in fact I'd go so far as to say that it's been quite the smooth transition. Battery life is as it was in iOS 16, wifi and calls take place as normal, camera works just fine. If I had to comment on anything unusual, it would be that I've noticed a couple of apps that I've opened which have closed themselves at some point through using the app, but re-opening them provided a stable as expected use.

I know that the journal app may not be packaged or released with iOS 17 but is it part of the iOS 17 developer beta? It’s the one thing that would actually push me to try the beta version out.

I really want to hear from someone like myself who turned autocorrect off because it’s just offensively bad. Just looking at the stupid suggestions it has while I type this is making me shake my head. Things no one would ever type, yet it fights me so hard every time I want to type I’ll which I do frequently.

So, is autocomplete still a complete disaster or does it actually work now?
It's still a disaster for swipe typing. I'm convinced that whatever improvement they've made here is only for tap typing, which would be ducking annoying.

Thumbs up for the:
  • offline maps feature as I live in an area of Australia with patchy mobile coverage.
  • word/multi-word contextual suggestions now offered in iMessages. Tapping the space bar to accept the offered suggestion offers the same functionality as tapping TAB in Word; a very welcome feature in my view.
  • clean iMessage interface with the submenus now accessed via the plus icon.
  • photo's app recognising my fur kids!
  • mood questionnaire thingy.
  • updated Siri functionality. Being able to say Siri instead of Hey Siri is great, and she seems to respond more quickly now which makes it feel more natural/as I'd expect it to be.
  • standby feature in horizontal orientation. I hope this feature has an option to black out the screen completely during set times, which my current clock does.
Thumbs down for the live voicemail only being available in restricted markets (for now, at least?).

The thing that jumped out at my for the Keynote was them improving autocorrect. It sounds like it's going in the right direction because it needed to be improved.

I would love Live Voicemail if I had more friends or just used it more. Most of the calls I get are spam calls.
I hope LV is rolled out around here in AUS. I don't care for voicemail and only have it turned on for those times when I'm not in coverage etc., otherwise I generally don't even bother retrieving the voice messages, I just call people back if I know who it is or am expecting a call from an unknown/blocked number.

I wonder how much backend changing they must be doing for the Vision Pro. Like, there has to be a reaction for an iOS device receiving a 3D video over iMessage, weather that shows a flattened version of it or stores the data but just shows a "view on Vision Pro!" message. There are surely dozens of interactions such as that one to have to deal with. Definitely would put a wrench in any complex plans for this year.

~live voicemail~, I remember how great visual voicemail was when I lived in a country that actually had it. So many carriers don’t even offer visual voicemail, they would rather have users burn through minutes using the older multi language computer voicemail. Barely anyone where I am now even leave messages because they are so cumbersome.

It would be great to see more universal adoption of carrier related features.

Live Voicemail seems nice.

But I'm going to stick with Google Voice for my Voicemail. Being able to access my voicemail from any device or anywhere, having my voicemails transcribed, and email and text alerts, is just too much to give up.

Also, I want transparent background for widgets. They do it for the lockscreen, so why not the home screen? Would look so much better. Especially the weather and calendar widgets.

Well, obviously Apple Music playback CROSSFADE should have made your list, since many of us here in the community have been clamoring over the injustice of Android Apple Music already sporting this feature for the past several years… This is a good day indeed! (Kidding, not kidding.)

Too bad there is still no simple feature to display the silent mode indicator 🔕 on the screen to stop missing calls. 😞

Offline maps #1
Hope any sort of timeline is coming too. Which is why I can’t stop using Google Maps yet. Going back years in time and see the places I visited, the ways I travelled on my trips without giving any effort (except sacrificing my privacy) is something I’m not willing to give up.

Don't get me wrong. It looks like a fantastic upgrade but I'm still hoping per-app volume settings shows up in the final release.

All of Apple's software announcements have been somewhat overshadowed by the Apple Vision Pro, but there are a number of useful changes that are coming in iOS 17. We've pulled out five features that we think are the most interesting and that iPhone users will be most excited about when iOS 17 launches this fall.

  1. Live Voicemail - If you're like us, you sometimes forget that voicemail even exists. With iOS 17, when someone calls and leaves a voicemail, you can see the transcription live on your Lock Screen. If they have something notable to say, you can pick up the call right then and there.
  2. StandBy - StandBy is similar to Nightstand mode for the Apple Watch. When you put your phone in landscape orientation on a charger, it activates a full-screen display with at-a-glance information like your calendar, clock, weather details, and even Live Activities. It's truly best with the iPhone 14 Pro's always-on display, but it works on older iPhones if you tap on the screen......
Are you sure about Top 5 of iOS?

The last require Apple TV, second is interesting on latest iPhone only. And voicemail? Does it anyone using outside of USA? I have not got it for decade i guess.

So only 3 a 4 qualify to Top features for All of us.

Live VM is okay but what they need to do is what Google offers and that is a call screener. That one feature is what stops me from buying an iPhone. I averaged about 250 business robocalls a month. It has eliminated all robocalls because once Google Assistant prompts the caller as to why they are calling, I can watch a transcript on my phone.

yeah screen calling is great and better but it's a start I guess.
