I've got it installed on my i14PM and haven't noticed any 'terrible' events; in fact I'd go so far as to say that it's been quite the smooth transition. Battery life is as it was in iOS 16, wifi and calls take place as normal, camera works just fine. If I had to comment on anything unusual, it would be that I've noticed a couple of apps that I've opened which have closed themselves at some point through using the app, but re-opening them provided a stable as expected use.
Thank you! I mean, it is a beta, so this kind of behavior is more than acceptable!

Yes! It's a sad thing — the ringing never stops, although it does die down a bit between 4 and 6 in the morning...
Woah. That would be incredibly annoying.

I get it that known contacts can and probably would text you but if it's some sort of, say, legitimate business call but not a contact, they just have to keep trying back (or text you which seems a bit awkward and might not make it through a set filter as an unknown)?

I was kidding, obviously, but not a lot of countries rely on voicemail. In fact, how much do people in the U.S. really leave voicemails? Businesses, doctor's offices — yes, but personally, I don't remember the last time I left/received a voicemail that wasn't business related.

Whoops that went right over my head! Still I'm not wrapping my mind around the alternative.

Yeah that's my point about business calls. I get a lot of calls for work (when working remote), from contractors (house stuff) etc. Even then though, not a lot of voicemails in my life...even AT work, where it's 99% email.

Well, what's a bit annoying is that if you have spotty service and the caller doesn't leave you a voicemail — you've no idea that anyone called you. In Russia, for instance, you get a text message letting you know that a certain number called you while you didn't have service. This way even if they didn't leave a voicemail — you know they were trying to reach you. I think a feature like that would eliminate the need for 99% of voicemails. Luckily all my work calls happen on Teams, so very rarely does anyone call my phone.

Let me remind everyone that interactive widgets were a thing back in iOS 6, possibly earlier. Back when the swipe down gesture would reveal the widgets instead of notifications. You could for example use the twitter widget to tweet directly from it, no need to open the app. They had to evolve widgets backwards to finally after over a decade semi-figure out how they should be.

Keyboard updates - Autocorrect is using a new machine learning model that can better predict what you want to say. You can more quickly complete words just by tapping the space bar, and in some cases, fill entire sentences. When a word is corrected, it's now underlined, and you can tap it to revert back to the original word you typed if autocorrect makes a mistake.

What the duck??

Apple needs to allow individual items to be deleted from the learned dictionary. Until then the autocorrect feature is deficient. Why should I have to delete the entire dictionary to get of a bad learning.

Improved autocorrect only for iPhone 12 and newer. Because if you don’t have the latest and greatest you deserve to be tortured by a broken autocorrect mechanism.
Apple has to do something to attempt to pry our iPhone 11’s out of our cold dead hands. I consider the 11 like the 4s and the first SE. if Apple had the brains to order the parts for a million more of each of those phones, and used the quantity discount to cut the price by $100 on day one, their market share would be double what it is today.

Same with the Yamaha Virago motorcycle. Yamaha Sold the exact same bike for seven years, just changed the paint job every year. If they would have purchased 7 years of parts and got the quantity discount, discounted the bike by $500, they might be the biggest motorcycle company today.

The American divisions of companies are prone to stupid things like this. Like ford motor, reissued the Boss 302 Mustang as a limited edition, the dealers were jacking the price by $10 grand before they hit the showroom floor, and the first deliveries were resold by their owners for a $30 grand premium in some cases. Did ford make another manufacturing run to meet the demand? Nope.

Same goes for Hollywood. Star Trek had to fight and beg for every new series. At one time it was the only profitable franchise in Paramount. If Lucille Ball hadn’t financed the first season through Desilu, it never would have existed.

At least Apple is keeping the prices of their entry level computers reasonable. I remember paying 3 grand for a MacBook Pro back in the day.

I really wish Apple would allow RESIZING THE KEYBOARD!!!! That would be the best improvement yet - iPhone is the only phone that prohibits this even with a third part keyboard.

If the "improved" auto correct is anything like Siri's improved voice recognition.... I'm afraid. (It was far worse and she can't use commas or grammar correctly.). The voice-rec demoed greatly last year - was super excited for it - and then I used it....

I’m personally looking forward to the ability to share passwords and passkeys Securely so I can switch entirely to complex passwords without having to reset the password constantly because my wife can’t log in

I must give a shout out to the multiple timers feature they've added.

I was running a smoker and grill yesterday with all kinds of check-ins and steps to be taken. I was able to set up each waypoint at once as I began my cook AND could label each timer. That was fantastic.

This is looking like a really good update, in spite or because there aren't may large scale features. It is mostly a lot of good quality of life changes and that will probably help more people that a big flashy change that is used by few.

I must say, the autocorrect changes are what I am most excited about. Partly because we really needed something better and because it shows some of the direction Apple is taking with AI and transformers. Of course lots of the other features have ML style AI too, like the stickers.

I really want to hear from someone like myself who turned autocorrect off because it’s just offensively bad. Just looking at the stupid suggestions it has while I type this is making me shake my head. Things no one would ever type, yet it fights me so hard every time I want to type I’ll which I do frequently.

So, is autocomplete still a complete disaster or does it actually work now?

Edit: hilarious that people would actually downvote this. I didn’t know there were autocorrect apologists out there. Even Craig Federighi openly admitted that it is bad.
I suspect you were downvoted because the feature you were complaining about is one of the noteworthy changed in iOS 17. Apple has implemented a completely new autocorrect system that uses a transformer AI (the kind of predictive text that is as the heart of ChatGPT). It has the potential to be the kind of autocorrect that we already expected but never got.

This is an entirely new autocorrect using a language model / transformer style AI that is nothing like Siri. Perhaps next year they will use something like this in Siri to improve it's text handling.

Yes I heard all of that, but I’ve also heard “autocorrect is better now” right before it got noticeably much worse years ago and just stayed that way.

I just wanted to hear from someone who has actually tried it and can confirm.
