The system was running fine, a clean installed MBP 2009. All tests have been repeated several times and results were consistent over several runs.

The 2009 SATA controller is messed up.
Phil, was it a *fresh* install or a *fresh & updated* install? Because that will make a huge difference with a 2009 MBP.
I've tested it with a clean SL 10.6.4 install

Well the 2010 15"/17" MBPs have the Intel SATA controller and the 2010 13" MB/P has a better nVidia SATA controller..

Within a test setup there are always limitations. First people were asking to include Intel SSDs, then to include updates (which turned out to be covered) and now a 2010 MBP is requested.
