My rMBP 15" came like this, it's not a big deal.

I had to get the screen replaced and when it was inspected pre-repair the genius noted that the screen was misaligned.

Its not a major fix, it just involves loosening the hinge mounts and re-positioning the display.

I bet they would do it for free if you are nice enough.

I repair Macs for a living and I can confirm that it's a pretty simple job to realign a shifted display like this one. Just gotta have the right screwdrivers!

I would've thought that Apple stores would do this for free with a Genius Bar appointment (would only take about 5-10 minutes). I know where I work, we'd do it for free and on the spot if we were not too busy.

Can you tighten a loose hinge

=I have noticed that the top case and screen has been shifted a bit left.

Check your bottom RIGHT back corner. I'm positive that there's a damage somewhere around there, forcing the hinge(s) to shift towards the left.

Is it normal for them not to ask for find my Mac to be turned off?

Yes. This is a standard procedure with iPhones as well. They want to make sure that you are authorized (whether a legit owner / representative) to own & service the device.

Update: got it back, sent a letter to Tim cook too! Still a bit shifted but a lot better

Horaaaaaay! So glad to read to read that you finally had a somewhat positive experience. :) Hope Tim Cook or someone from Customer Service will get back to you soon! Keep us updated!

Dude it's so simple. Do it yourself so it's perfect. You strike me as the OCD type. Definitely wrong with that so get it right so it doesnt stress you out anymore.

The circles in this pic are where the screws for the screen are. There are 3 but only 2 are circled in this one. You will need to slightly loosen all 3 of them on each side. Then move the screen into the correct position. Now tighten up the screws one on each side alternating until all are tight. You're done.

There are 3 screws for each side. Loosen all 3 on both sides. Then adjust to your hearts content.
