In 6 months I'll be just as happy as I am right now that I am not lugging around a big phone. Some will sacrifice size and portability in exchange for a bigger battery. Others will will sacrifice battery in order to have a smaller, more easily carried, phone. I am the latter.
True, not all will feel the same. Just with the crappy 5G modem and such a small size. Would you still be ok if it only lasted a half a day?

Now, as soon as the new battery tech comes out that they are working on.(maybe as early as next year) That will be a thing of the past. I can see the mini being a huge hit if they put in a 4000mah battery in the size of the mini.

To be honest, 5G was not a selling feature to me. As a matter of fact, I have it turned off. LTE is plenty fast for my needs.

As has been mentioned in other threads on this topic, the only people that will have an issue are those heavy users that either have no access to a charger throughout the day (shouldn't be using the mini to begin with) or refuse to plug in when available because they like to be able to say they don't have to plug in. I'm a moderate user and my Mini usually falls in the 30 - 50% range when I turn in for the night.
50% left at night with a 2200mah battery. I would say moderate is lightly put. Lol I assume you don’t use 5G cause those modems just aren’t that good

In all honesty me too. It got my phone really hot and since ATT upgraded to 5G they basically turned my local area into a dead spot. My cell reception is at -114. I was pissed at first when I changed my bill to 5G to not use it but I got my first bill and I am not paying more for it. So I’m with you, no 5G

I do, actually. I have it set to 5G Auto and I get good 5G coverage at home and at the office.

Call it what you want, but I would consider 3 - 5 hours of SOT moderate usage. This includes everything from phone calls, web browsing, streaming music over Bluetooth while running/driving to & from work, snapping the occasional photo and texting throughout the day. Phone came off the charger at 0700 today and I'm at 73% with 1h 38m screen on and 1h 24m screen off usage.

If you're the type that can't put your phone down then yeah, the Mini isn't gonna work for you.

Wow, not many notifications during the day?

For moderate use, that is great battery life thus far.

On the contrary, I get a ton of notifications that I should probably start paring down. I downloaded a couple of different news apps for the election season that I've yet to get rid of and I probably don't need to know each and every time the wife lets the dog out to pee.

True

That ProRaw capability and bigger sensor of the 12 Pro Max has me second guessing.
I feel I’m either going to love the size of my phone and not be able to shoot RAW or learn how to love a big phone and enjoy the beefed up sensor and ProRaw.

Reviews of ProRAW are so few and far between right now and are hard to navigate as they aren’t always comparing the right images.
It would seem ProRaw is overkill for everyday use, but I sure would mind the flexibility of ProRaw for certain pics. I shoot exclusively RAW with my DSLR and love it for special shots.

So, what have you guys done? Any advice you can offer will be much appreciTed

Personally, I wouldn’t get it just for the camera alone. However, it does come with an insane battery life (seriously, it’s something else) - and with a beautiful, big display. However, it’s so much less wieldy that it’s not even close.

I would recommend trying it out - it comes down to whether you can handle the size comfortably or not.

I don’t know, IMO the 11 pro max was noticeably better battery life. It lasted me a day and a half in the first months. The 12 PM hasn’t made it a day.

As nice as it would be to have that better camera on a smartphone, I just find it all becomes irrelevant to me when I consider the Pro Max is enormous. The camera on the 12 and 12 Mini is very good anyway and for a point and shoot, it should meet all the criteria. The price of the Pro Max also leaves a lot to be desired and I’d rather pay that money towards and new lens for my DSLR personally.

Do you run your 12 PM with 5G? I've had two 5G Android devices and even with high mAh (5000) , they'd die really fast on 5G.

My 11 Pro Max is lasting way over a day with heavy usage and the battery health is 97%.

If you have tested, is there a big difference with 4G/LTE only?

Yes I have tested with 5G. The modems in them aren’t efficient at all. You lose 20-30% of battery with 5G vs 4G. And it gets really warm too.

I do not use 5G

My Pro Max 12 lasts me 1.5 days too. And I’m not a light user. Not sure what the case is here, but the battery life on my 12 is outstanding.

I don’t have 5G coverage here, though.

Never buy a phone because of its camera. If you want to play with RAW files, get a real DSLR or mirrorless and some nice glass.

Not everybody wants to Cary a DSLR with them all the time. You want a great camera when you need it in your pocket. Smart phones improvements each year are more camera based every year so it’s only natural for many to want the best.

However with how great smart phone cameras are these days the difference are smaller from device to device

For foodie pics with horrible lighting, I still find smartphones superior than full frames (just single shot and no focus stacking) if I want to have almost everything in-focus when taking close-up photos. Do the same with a 0.5x macro at f/2.8 on a full frame would yield an extremely narrow focus range, and using f/22 to get the same focus depth as the pro max would yield worse quality and details due to diffraction from very narrow opening

Who cares about notifications? I don’t have many socials, turned off for Mail and shopping apps so I didn’t receive many even before 12 mini.
