Every time Apple releases an incremental update that adds one or two new features, it generates a ton of media interest. This step-by-step thing basically gets Apple free media time, keeping the iPhone in the news.

Plus isn't incremental changes the programmer's mantra?

....naive ? Do you remember the announcement of iPhone 3G ? "You have asked for : GPS....(there was a short list), there you have it", something like that. Do you remember that ? Who asked ? Users, potential buyers, customers, US. Do you know how companies are checking the market needs ? By asking people what they need, what they would buy - and they are paying a lot of money to check that... but, communities, like this are the free source of user needs for them. So, yes, if you call it naive, I'm naive too. Even if 1 of 100 Apple employee reads it and give the feedback at the next Apple mind blowing managers meeting, it's worth it.

 THIS is where they get feedback:

If there's 1 thread on here or 100 about something, they don't care.
If something matters, submit. What we do around here is entertainment for US. That's all.

One thing I like about Apple is they know what a computer/music player/phone should be like. They don't go asking the customer what they want in these things. They know what the device should do and be like and they go make it happen.

I work in the auto industry and my company is always going and asking the customer what they want or what do they think of this feature and then we misinterpret their responses. I think if we don't know how to make a car or truck, we should get out of the business. I am sure BMW doesn't spend a lot of time asking its cutomers what a car should be like. BMW is the expert, they know what makes a great car better than the customer.

You can disagree with them, if you like, but you are really just blowing smoke until you go make a better one. It is like the guy who started PayPal. He thought he knew how to make a better car. He set out to make an electric roadster. It appears he did a pretty good job but he found out that it isn't as simple as it seems from the outside looking in.

Apple can't just release turn-by-turn. It has to exist first. I would rather Apple spent their time making so I can sync my calendar subscriptions over MobileMe to be honest. I am sure everyone has their own list of enhancements and priorities for them but only Apple is in a position to understand the ripple effect of each of those changes and what it takes to deliver them to the market without pissing everyone off about how poorly they perform.

I do not agree with you, the "smoke" is creative sometimes. And I'm sure, that your company is listening to the customers, who are saying "The financing plan for this car is to expensive". One said that, then another...after a few, the plan is going to be cheaper, and you've got the customers. BMW - customers do need more luxury, iPod connection, better engines etc. I'm not saying, that the customers are deciding about the engine construction, saying how to do it - that's the BMW problem, all they need is a better performance , which can be increased by making a better engine (for example).

And I do know, that it might seem to look easy to do...it's not.

While all the changes suggested in this (and a million other) thread(s) would be welcomed by me, I'm not going to hold my breath.

All the claims that, "These features are on every other phone, and the iPhone sux until it gets them" really don't hold water. If the average consumer was so insistent on these features, the iPhone wouldn't be flying off the shelves like it is. These features are "required" by the geek crowd (like the average macrumors user) not the average iPhone user.

When sales start to slow, then you'll see Apple get off their collective behinds and start adding functionality.

I do agree, but it's media time for masses. There are voices saying, HTC already have that. It's all about the "great designed device FINALLY has that". It's a pretty neat strategy, knowing, that the product is highly demanded, with, mentioned before, potential, sticking us, customers, to the device, because sometime in the future, it will have this and that added to it.

It's like never ending sweet desert. See the last year or two, the progress of design in other devices - all iPhone like. Touch screen, large screen, simple menu, but....many other features, software features. The iPhone design is faaar way ahead of them, but the features... added to slow for me.

Geek crowd ? No, people with open minds and creativity :). My girl started to use GPS and maps after it has been released, because she didn't know, it can be possible and usable at all before (in her phone). She couldn't even imagine doing that. And I don't think it "sux" because of a lack of these features.

What did 2.2 add nothing really the main feature was updated google maps. I wonder how many people reqested street view on apples feedback, it must have had more than MMS,video, ect. I haven't seen one post on here about someone complaining about how much they want streetview on their iPhone.
