At least with this Rev A, all Apple has to do to replace your drive is remove the battery cover. In all prior models, they had to disassemble pretty much the entire unit to get to the drive in the middle of the assembly.

woah, a little bit of exaggeration here. maybe the ibooks, yea. Macbook Pros were just a top case removal away from HD replacement...

I think you should be ok. I would totally make sure you have current back ups just in case. If it happens again I would get a hold of Apple to get the drive replaced.

HDs fail and it's out of Apple's hands
Optical drives fail and it's out of Apple's hands
RAM fails and that's also out of Apple's hands

Of course it is not out of the question to ask for repairs on these issues, but corruption will happen. Even my WD Raptors are not immune from failure.

You didn't have a computer die on you, you had a file get corrupt. And honestly you don't sound like you've been working with computers very long at all, including this last post.

The amount of money you spend on a computer has nothing to do with getting a corrupt file.

The computer didn't fail... the hard drive data got corrupted. There is a hugh difference and if you REALLY knew about computers like you said you did, then you would know it. It's like saying your brand new car (insert model) is crap because it got a flat tire.

The reason we backup computer data is because header info can get corrupted or the hardware in the drive can go bad. Yes, even new ones! It's a fact of life (unless you buy a SSD) so get used to it.

Exactly. Computers are made in factories run by humans. Humans make mistakes. It happens.

Your computer did not fail, a file failed.

Apple can't help the fact that your 3k notebook had a corrupted file much more than their white macbook could have a corrupted file. They aren't going to say - "oh hey that guy only paid $900 for his computer, we don't care if his hard drive has corrupted files" They work their hardest to make sure every product has no flaws.

Why are you complaining so much, instead of working with Apple to get a new hard drive? It's not going to take 10 days to replace your machine. If you're in the vicinity of an Apple store - take it there. The whole procedure should take less than an hour. You could even do it yourself if you're such an "experienced" and "pro" user.

Apple takes measures to prevent and correct these manufacturing defects, but thing is - defects will happen. You just have to deal with the defects when you deal with human-made technology.

You also may want to start backing up with Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper, so that you have a bootable external hard drive, the hard drive in my iMac failed recently and I sure am glad I have a bootable external hard drive. I'm still running off my external HDD cause I've been too lazy and haven't had the money to go get it fixed (don't have AppleCare).

"its a Mac" does not = better components. What is means is better design and OS X. Do not be fooled into thinking that the components are better inside a mac. The inside of a mac these days is no different to a PC. You just loose some functionality/connectivity due to physical design restrictions.

From my experience I find Sony to be the most solid laptops. The problem is that when you spend lots of $$ and a taken in my apple advertising you get disappointed when a new apple product has defects. Cause the image is that they are the class leader in quality and design. Sadly people do not realize that the components inside them are usually the best value that apple can get in batches.

To make you feel better, yes it will break, but the Apple support/customer service will look after you. My only solid advice is get applecare...it will break after the first year (from my experience). Apple is like Ducati, Looks lovely, great design, but also be prepared to spend some time in the shop.

Actually they can, they can mitigate chance of issues occurring by using better components in their products. Take the MBP firewire controller, its actually crappy. But most people think they are getting firewire and its all good. Like all companies apple is guilty of cutting corners to maximize profits.

well since this is the answer you are waiting for, then "demand a brand new mbp." good luck!

I find users here try to take advantage of their misfortune even if it wasn't Apple's fault...

Apple broke/dropped/ruined my gf's laptop, so I made them replace it, and they *offered* to replace mine as well because it was me who went through everything to get hers right, I didn't demand anything out of the ordinary, I didn't say 'omg this ram is faulty in this machine, give me a new one.' I know they could just replace the RAM and fix the issue, but some people here... wow.

Sure. My point was, they aren't deliberately trying or not caring about his hard drive. Mistakes happen.
