i have had my 6s plus since launch day and maybe two or three times the Touch ID doesn't recognize. It doesn't even say to try again. I have to swipe and then press my finger on Touch ID. I'm assuming it's software bug since it works 98% of time but anyone have this hapoen

I had that issue on my 5S and my 6 Plus but my 6S Plus has been 100% perfect regards Touch ID.

I have beat up finger prints so mine is hit or miss. I did make it better by adding a bunch of the same thumb in the Touch ID though.

Mine's a bit like that, always works for my thumb, I also did i finger and it never works on that, i've scared it twice but no dice. Just use my thumb now.

It doesn't even detect fingerprint unless I swipe show passcode and then do it. Like I said only happened twice. Guess it's not s big deal.

You don't have to do that. If you go into Settings, Touch ID you can keep touching the home button and it will keep learning you fingerprint so that you can use more of your finger in different positions which makes it much better at recognising it. I can't remember the last time either my 6 or 6s didn't recognise my print.

I thought that just showed you which finger you used. Not additional learning?

Try it and see. Start in the position where you had your finger set and slowly change your fingers position to incorporate all of the area of your thumb and it will keep learning the rest of your finger/thumb so that no matter what part of your finger/thumb you use it will recognise it.

Ah cool, thats good to know!!

So weird but just now I kept trying to do it with my finger and it wouldn't even acknowledge it. It didn't say try again. Just nothing as if Touch ID was off. Hmm is this a bug?

It's always fascinating to me when I see threads of people saying say touchID doesn't work for them. I've never once had to input my password (outside of when I restart my phone) on my 5s or 6s since setting up touchID.

It's the phone. If I just told you it always works but didn't for a few minutes until I kept using my passcode and finally then it worked with Touch ID.

I don't doubt you (or the others who have had this issue before), just as I said it simply is interesting to me when I see a thread detailing touchID issues since I've never seen them myself. Have you tried doing a software restore via iTunes since you said it might be a software bug?

Not sure it's worth it since it only happened twice since I got my phone. I just wanted to see if anyone else had his.

The touch ID on my 6s Plus gets it right the first time in the vast majority of cases, but there have been a number of occasions when I've had to touch it twice. I've not had to enter my passcode though.

It's not that it tells me password. Nothing happens. I touch the button in and then it goes to the Apple Pay. I swipe to the right to put passcode. It has only happened twice. Maybe I'm being to ocd. It could just have been slow or something.

my fingers are a mess and i can't use it at all. i can register a print but it rarely if ever recognizes it. usually works for an hour or so sometimes then basically not at all. didn't end up using apple pay with my 6 because of that. but with the 6s+ I finally decided a couple of days ago to set everything up again and just use passcode.

But does it at least say try again. Mine wasn't even saying try again. It just didn't think I was using it. If that makes sense.

yes, it does. your issue definitely sounds different and maybe software related. mine is clearly just not recognizing my print but trying.

Yea it just did it again but then after a few tries it finally unlocked. It's almost as if the phone is laggy. Hmm

Just the opposite. Sometimes on my 6s+ it works in situations where it would never work on the old 6+
Like damp fingers or in the cold. That would trip up the 6+

It's also very fast, esp with Apple Pay and of course the lock screen

I have the exact same problem! Happens about once every couple days. Doesn't say print not recognized or anything. It's like it doesn't even know I'm trying to use the scanner. No response at all. Nothing. Until I swipe and enter passcode. Then if I lock, and try again, it works no problem.

Ah okay so it's not just me.

I've had almost the same thing happy, but when I slide to do the passcode, the home screen pops up. It's like the TouchID unlocked everything, but it got stuck on the unlock screen until I slide it. Weird.
