it was a surprise that ipad air didnt have it

Well they need a reason for you to upgrade this year.

----------

I think its a safe assumption that Touch ID will become a standard feature going forward. The only thing that could prevent that from happening is supply constraints.

----------

Also, these devices will have screens.

Now I´m an analyst too.

Pretty good. I like the touch id on my phone.. I got used to it!

Same, unlike Siri which is just a gimmick. Touch Id works exceptionally well. As long as the finger is always dry :)

It's going to take a whole lot more than this to make me want to upgrade my iPad. Assuming I am not the only one thinking this, then that according to the sales figure reports, will become more and more of an issue to Apple.
What issue?????? Why does it have to be a issue for Apple or any other company???
Apple can care less about your upgrade cycle, why because in the next 6 years there will be 3 billion more people going online for the first time. It's a win win for Apple or any mobile company entering the game.

If they implement multi-user switching (at minimum things like iCloud/Game Center/Twitter logins) in iOS8, this would become a lot more useful and a more desirable upgrade feature. Especially on iPads where more than one person tends to use it. The ability to scan a finger and have everything personalized for you in an instant would be amazing.

Let's feel sorry for MacRumours. They either publish around 18 mockups a day on iPhone 6 or publish things we know to be true. This site is going downhill. Fast.

Actually, that would be news since air molecules are clear. The blue that you see is sunlight.

I disagree, I think. I'm not sure but the term "sky" does not really exclusively refer to air molecules but to the entirety of what you see when you look up to the "sky" (which still doesn't ALWAYS appear blue, but for a good amount of the day it is) .

I really like the touch ID on my partners iPhone, so far it just adds a bit of convenience but hopefully there's more going on behind the scenes that will implement some nice functionalities.

Yeah because Tim Cook had a warehouse full of Touch ID sensors just sitting there that they could have added to iPads but intentionally chose not to.

Also, perhaps Apple felt it was better to test out Touch ID on iPhones first and when it does come to iPad it will have additional functionality.

How many people do you really think are going to upgrade from an Air or retina mini just for Touch ID? The people that do probably would have upgraded anyway as some people always have to have the latest and greatest device.

That's good news. It's something I thought Apple should have done last year with all their new models.

I bought the iPad Mini last year a couple of months after I got the iPhone 5s. It was weird switching between devices where I used TouchID on one and had to use the passcode lock on the other.

I'm planning on buying the new iPad Mini this year again, in hopes that the TouchID is present. Also, because I'm not as happy with the white color of the iPad Mini as I thought I'd be. I really like the white/silver iPhone though.

"In other news: Samatha Fox is expected to relaunch her singing career at WWDC while she sings Touch Me during the introduction of the new iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 3."

Well, I for one will comment about something other than the obviousness of TouchID being in iPhone 6: I really am looking forward to Touch ID in the iPad lineup. I buy more apps through my iPad rMini than any other device, so the Touch Authentication will make it a lot more convenient, among other uses. All is good...

They could integrate it on an iMac, Mac Mini or Mac Pro within the keyboard or trackpad by making it part of the power button the end.

On a MacBook Air, or MacBook Pro with Retina they could put it where the power button used to be on the top right or something like that. This would obviously necessitate a shift of the ports on the right side by a half centimeter forward.

I see it being a part of the Retina MacBook Pro's trackpad first, sometime this year, and it expanding to other Macs next year. Unless of course, they don't update the Retina MacBook Pro to Broadwell this year.

Let's feel sorry for you because there is no gun to your head. You need to comprehend the title Mac + rumors. If the site is going downhill for you for you personally there all the sites out there like imore, 9 to 5 Mac ect.

And MacRumours do? No. I understand what rumours means. This isn't a rumour. It's fact.

Oh, and I do use 9to5Mac much more. 100x better. I just come back here once a week or so for a few laughs.

In other news... the sky is blue and the sun is bright...

I think this is pretty self explanatory that it will becoming to the new devices...

Of course I still won't use it, regardless. Analog security is so easily bypassed, and we shouldn't encourage its widespread adoption.

Thanks C3PO. Meanwhile, in the real world, my boss has just started using security on her new iPhone 5s because Touch ID made it frictionless.

Why mention the iPhone 6? Isn't that a given, or is this simply to drum up views from search engines? That's like saying that the next iPhone is going to have a screen and a battery...

Is there a reason you choose to ignore the statement I made about supply constraints???

Yes, test our Touch ID on your premier device, a good testing practice.... please! While neither of us know, my opinion is that it will become a standard feature on Apple devices, like Siri rolled out.

Actually yes, I can see quite a lot of people upgrading their Air or Mini's to get Touch ID, apple has released lesser upgrades in the past. I actually consider it to be a great feature.
