As others have mentioned, big whoopee surprise.

What would be a more pleasant surprise is if Touch ID were to come to Macs...

That could happen.

----------

It's going to take a whole lot more than this to make me want to upgrade my iPad. Assuming I am not the only one thinking this, then that according to the sales figure reports, will become more and more of an issue to Apple.

It could be seen as useless on an iPad. Personally I'm waiting for a RAM and flash update. It is pretty pathetic that Apple has not addressed these two items for a couple of years now.

iOS 8 beta 1 runs to slow on my iPhone 4.

Apple obviously doesn't care about the average user

(oops, we are doing this yet)

Touch ID, to me, makes less sense on a tablet. At least, unless they're going to add multiuser support finally.

That said, if the thing is cheap enough and they can make enough of them to meet demand, there's really no downside to including it on as many Apple devices as they care to.

Of course I still won't use it, regardless. Analog security is so easily bypassed, and we shouldn't encourage its widespread adoption.

Agreed...if you have the smart cover, are you supposed to unlock with the smart cover and then use touch ID to unlock again?

My ipad never leaves home so I guess the benefit to me would be for purchases.

As long as "every new iOS device launched this year" includes a new, up to date iPod touch, I'm game.

What if iPad Air 3 , iPad Mini 4 is released

I feel that looking at how everyone else is moving in TV space apple will release New Apple TV , along with iPad Air 3 , iPad Mini 4 all with better Bluetooth game controller capability.

It seems obvious to me that AppleTV like Entertainment box and Gaming Consoles are converging. And if apple doesn't release anything now it may be left out in the market... but i feel the biggest problem is getting the right content to the Box is more important. I don't see if samsung can copy this and break a deal with media channels to give there content nor samsung has any media distribution capability.

It would be a surprise if they announce the next ipad without a touchID. I suspect there a few folks out there (me included) that have been waiting to purchase a new iPad, but won't pull the trigger until the touchID is available. I am still on an iPad 3 (the new iPad) and can't wait for the touchID to arrive. I think failure to deliver will really be a problem for them at this point.

I think I would really like to upgrade to a Touch-ID iPhone, entering my password is really annoying and hard to remember.

Why is this even news. Apple is not dumb enough to not add touch id to ipad air 3 and ipad mini 3

Thanks again to the Captain Obvious analyst!

The touch ID really does work well on the 5s. I get so used to it that when i grab my iPod touch there are several times I will put my thumb down for a brief moment waiting for it to unlock. LOL I don't think I have done that with my iPad yet though.

Not earth shattering news but Ming-Chi Kuo isn't the typical analyst so if something really new was predicted that would be quite some news (or rumours)

Touch ID all round.... :)

on a phone. yes, because its small..... well.... how can you say that now after the iphone 6.

Touch ID on a tablet ? doesn't make much sense to me on a big device....

Rather than actually think about what size devices TouchID will be suited for like a common sense type, plus people the addition of "hey, buy this tablet if you don't want Touch ID."

You no longer have a choice..... When Apple really gets in on a technology, they go all out.....

At least the iPad 2 didn't have Touch ID, and is was a seller...

I'm happy on the Touch ID, but I wouldn't exactly break my back over it...

Its nice to have, but since i never ever loose my phone, to me anyway, its not really that big of a deal....

Companies babysitting their customers with security features is all well and good, but i don't need a dummy :)

Hate to say it, but that's how i look at Apple now days.... just because customers loose their phones, can't take care of their devices at all. Apple must implement this stuff, that eases the pressure off...

something we can all fall back on to catch us.. And while you can turn them off if you don't use them, that's not where i'm coming from.

No way,, I do my own thing thanks .....

We need a TouchID keyboard for desktops, with security built into 10.10 that uses TouchID to unlock Macs. :)

They could integrate it on an iMac, Mac Mini or Mac Pro within the keyboard or trackpad by making it part of the power button the end.

On a MacBook Air, or MacBook Pro with Retina they could put it where the power button used to be on the top right or something like that. This would obviously necessitate a shift of the ports on the right side by a half centimeter forward.
They could but that would be basically the same as what others have done, a very unintuitive, inelegant solution.

If they implement multi-user switching (at minimum things like iCloud/Game Center/Twitter logins) in iOS8, this would become a lot more useful and a more desirable upgrade feature. Especially on iPads where more than one person tends to use it. The ability to scan a finger and have everything personalized for you in an instant would be amazing.

I would wager all that I own and a few borrowed items too just for good measure, this is not going to happen. Correct that you are though.

Everytime I see that picture, I mistake it for an iMac. And now as I look at mine while typing this sentence, I can't help but think someone from Cupertino is watching me from that :apple: on the front...

it was a surprise that ipad air didnt have it

Not really. It was likely extremely constrained at the time. iPhone5S was constrained for a long time, probably because of that particular part.

Apple could either delay iPad Air for maybe three months (and miss Christmas), or ship without it.

The comments in posts are getting more and more hilarious. So much whining.
And yet mine is the top rated comment! I was once angry as you are that these forums are such a cesspool. Then I thought, if you can't beat them, join them!

There is always the other option is ignoring them ..

Believe me, its get the point across quickly.
